Cluster 0207 — BG-5.26
BG-5.26
Sanskrit: कामक्रोधवियुक्तानां यतीनां यतचेतसाम् । अभितो ब्रह्मनिर्वाणं वर्तते विदितात्मनाम् ॥२६॥
Literal English: For the yatīs released from kāma and krodha, whose citta is restrained, who have known the ātman — brahma-nirvāṇa stands on every side, here and now.
मराठी (आधुनिक): कामक्रोधांपासून सुटलेल्या, चित्त संयमित असलेल्या, आत्म्याला जाणून घेतलेल्या यतींना ब्रह्मनिर्वाण (मोक्ष) सर्व बाजूंनी, येथेच, सध्या उपस्थित आहे.
Nature of this cluster
Cluster 0207 is a Sanskrit-only card. The Sakhare source-file at sources/marathi/sakhare/0207.txt carries:
- the BG-5.26 Sanskrit śloka in Devanagari
- cluster-metadata (
adhyaya: 5,cluster_kind: sloka,bg_reference: BG-5.26,sloka_in_chapter: 26) - the
[marathi-ovis]header followed by nothing
There are no Marathi ovis to decode at the eight-layer per-ovi level. The discipline-relevant choice is to record this honestly rather than fabricate ovis. Cluster 0207 is one of a small set of empty-source files in the Sakhare scrape (cf. clusters 0031, 0098, 0183, 0210, 0252, 0279, 0305, 0377, 0433...), where the canonical edition either absorbs the commentary into adjacent clusters or simply does not attach Marathi to a given Sanskrit śloka.
What the Sanskrit names
BG-5.26 packs four genitive-plural attributes of the realized one, followed by a state-claim verb-phrase:
| Sanskrit | Literal | Comment |
|---|---|---|
| कामक्रोधवियुक्तानां | of-those-released-from-kāma-and-krodha | the affective-purity attribute |
| यतीनां | of-the-yatīs (strivers, ascetics) | the discipline-class attribute |
| यतचेतसाम् | of-those-whose-citta-is-restrained | the cognitive-control attribute |
| विदितात्मनाम् | of-those-who-have-known-the-ātman | the realization attribute |
| अभितो ब्रह्मनिर्वाणं वर्तते | brahma-nirvāṇa stands on-every-side | the state-claim |
The four attributes together name the standard BG-doctrinal portrait of the realized one, layering affective-purity (no kāma, no krodha) + ascetic-discipline (yati) + cognitive-control (yata-cetas) + jñāna-attainment (vidita-ātman). The state-claim is the load-bearing piece: abhitaḥ vartate — stands on-every-side, is in-progress all-around. The grammar collapses the standard temporal-frame: brahma-nirvāṇa is not approached (as in BG-5.24's adhigacchati) or obtained (as in BG-5.25's labhante) — it is ambient, already present, on-every-side of one who carries these attributes.
This is the chapter-5 lived-now reading of brahma-nirvāṇa, structurally parallel to cluster 0199's reading of BG-5.17's apunar-āvṛtti as the current cognitive state of the jñānin (not a post-mortem destination). The chapter-5 doctrinal-signature is liberation-as-current-ambient-condition, not liberation-as-future-attainment.
The BG-5.24-26 brahma-nirvāṇa triplet
BG-5.24-26 forms a three-step ascending portrait of the brahma-nirvāṇa-bearer:
-
BG-5.24 (cluster 0206 opening): the yogin with antaḥ-sukha + antar-ārāma + antar-jyotis attains brahma-bhūtaḥ and brahma-nirvāṇam adhigacchati. The yogin attribute-set is interior-light-pleasure.
-
BG-5.25 (cluster 0206 continuing): the ṛṣis with kalmaṣa-kṣīṇa + dvaidha-chinna + sarvabhūta-hite-ratāḥ + yatātmānaḥ labhante brahma-nirvāṇam. The ṛṣi attribute-set is purified-non-dual-universal-benefactor.
-
BG-5.26 (this cluster, 0207): the yatīs with kāma-krodha-viyukta + yata-cetas + vidita-ātman — for them abhitaḥ brahma-nirvāṇam vartate. The yati attribute-set is affectively-pure-cognitively-restrained-jñāna-realized; the verb shifts from adhigacchati / labhante to vartate — from attains / obtains to is-in-progress.
The verb-shift is the chapter's interpretive-summit. Across three ślokas, Kṛṣṇa moves the realized-one's relation-to-brahma-nirvāṇa from future-attainment through present-receiving to ambient-being. By BG-5.26 the realized one does not arrive at brahma-nirvāṇa — they are surrounded by it, abhitaḥ vartate.
Why the Sakhare ovis-section is empty
The most defensible textual hypothesis: Sakhare's Marathi commentary for BG-5.26 is absorbed into the closing ovis of cluster 0206, which itself ends at 5.147 with जे महर्षीं वाढले । विरक्तां भागा फिटलें । जे निःसंशया पिकलें । निरंतर — those who have grown to be maharṣis, in whom virakti is fully apportioned, who have ripened into doubtlessness, continuously. This 5.147 vocabulary (mahaṛṣīm-vāḍhalē, virakta-bhāgā-phiṭalē, niḥsamśayā-pikalē, niramtara) is already in the precise semantic register that BG-5.26's yatīnām + yata-cetasām + vidita-ātmanām would otherwise unpack into Marathi. Jñāneśvar's commentary on BG-5.24-26 is composed as a single continuous block (5.136-5.147), and Sakhare's edition assigns the whole stretch to the 5.24-25 cluster-card, leaving the 5.26 card structurally-marked but unsourced.
A second possibility is that the scrape itself missed ovis present in Sakhare's print edition. Either way, the discipline-relevant action is: document what the source-file contains, flag the gap, defer interpretive-loading to a future Sarṭa-edition pass.
The next-step landing
Cluster 0208 (BG-5.27-28) supplies the practice-form that lands the BG-5.24-26 state in the body — the verses for which Sakhare does carry Marathi (5.151-5.157):
- stimuli-bracketed-outside (
स्पर्शान्कृत्वा बहिर्बाह्यान्) —विषय दवडूनि बाहिरें(5.151) - gaze fixed between the brows (
चक्षुश्चैवान्तरे भ्रुवोः) —भ्रूपल्लवां पडे गांठी(5.152) - prāṇa-apāna equalized (
प्राणापानौ समौ कृत्वा) —प्राणापानसम । चित्तेंसीं व्योम । गामिये करिती(5.153) - mana-dissolution into gagana (5.155:
गगनीं लयो मना पवनें कीजे) — Jñāneśvar's most-direct Nātha-siddha-tinged statement in adhyāya 5, foreshadowing the chapter-6 dhyāna-yoga register
The yatī of BG-5.26 is, in BG-5.27-28's elaboration, the muni doing the bhrū-madhya gaze + prāṇa-apāna-samīkaraṇa + mana-laya into gagana. Cluster 0207 names who the realized one is; cluster 0208 names what the realized one does (or rather, what the disciplined-yogin moving toward this state does). The pair (0207 + 0208) is attributes + practice — Jñāneśvar's standard pedagogical-couplet, here interrupted only by the empty-source condition of the first half.
Note on cluster-method discipline
The user's task-prompt entertained the hypothesis that cluster 0207 might be the chapter-5 close territory — BG-5.29 (bhoktāram yajña-tapasām sarva-loka-maheśvaram) plus the chapter signature. Inspection of the source shows otherwise. Cluster 0207 is the middle of the BG-5.24-26 brahma-nirvāṇa triplet, not the chapter-close. The chapter-close territory is at clusters 0209 (BG-5.29) and 0210 (chapter-5 colophon — itself an empty-source structural-marker by the same pattern as cluster 0183 chapter-4-colophon). Discipline rule observed: decode what the source contains, not what the hypothesis predicted.
Cluster summary
Core teaching: BG-5.26 announces — to the yatīs released from kāma-krodha, with restrained citta and known ātman — that brahma-nirvāṇa stands abhitaḥ (on every side, all-around) — not as a posthumous destination but as the current ambient condition of the realized one. The śloka completes the BG-5.24-26 brahma-nirvāṇa triplet, with the verb-shift from adhigacchati / labhante to vartate marking the chapter's interpretive summit: liberation-as-ambient-being, not liberation-as-future-attainment.
Theme tags: kama-krodha-viyukta, yatinam-yata-cetasam, brahma-nirvana-abhitah, vidita-atmanam, brahma-nirvana-as-current-state, chapter-5-final-clinch, empty-marathi-source, sloka-only-cluster.
Contains extended metaphor: No.
Chapter arc position: The rhetorical clinch of the BG-5.24-26 brahma-nirvāṇa triplet, chapter-5's doctrinal summit before the BG-5.27-28 prāṇāyāma-mokṣa-bridge (cluster 0208) and the BG-5.29 cosmic-clinch (cluster 0209). The verb-shift across 5.24 → 5.25 → 5.26 (adhigacchati → labhante → vartate) registers the chapter-5 lived-now reading of brahma-nirvāṇa — structurally parallel to cluster 0199's reading of BG-5.17's apunar-āvṛtti-as-current-cognitive-state.
Connects to next śloka: Cluster 0208 (BG-5.27-28) supplies the operational-yoga-discipline — stimuli-bracketed-outside + bhrū-madhya gaze + prāṇa-apāna-samīkaraṇa — yielding the muni who is sadā mukta eva (5.157: शरीरेंचि ब्रह्म होये । अनुभवी तो). 0207's attributes of the realized one + 0208's practice-form of the disciplined yogin form Jñāneśvar's standard pedagogical couplet; the empty-source condition of 0207 means the couplet's interpretive-weight will fall almost entirely on 0208's six ovis (5.151-5.157).
