Cluster 0438 — BG-12.4 — *te prāpnuvanti mām eva*
BG-12.4
Sanskrit
सन्नियम्येन्द्रियग्रामं सर्वत्र समबुद्धयः । ते प्राप्नुवन्ति मामेव सर्वभूतहिते रताः ॥४॥
Translation
HAVING-FULLY-RESTRAINED the indriya-host, EVERYWHERE-EVEN-MINDED — THEY-ALSO ATTAIN ME, DELIGHTING in the welfare-of-all-beings.
Function
BG-12.4 is the CONCLUDING-VERSE of the AKṢARA-AVYAKTA-upāsaka description begun at BG-12.3. The Lord's verdict — te prāpnuvanti mām EVA — is the precise iconic EVEN-HANDED ACKNOWLEDGMENT that the nirguṇa-path TOO attains-Me. The iconic emphatic eva (ALSO/INDEED) is the precise key. The verse describes the PRACTICE-DISCIPLINE of the avyakta-upāsakas: (a) FULL RESTRAINT of the INDRIYA-GRĀMA; (b) SARVATRA-SAMA-BUDDHI; (c) DELIGHT in the WELFARE-OF-ALL-BEINGS.
Jñāneśvar's 14-ovi treatment (12.46-12.59) is exceptionally-elaborate — one of the MOST EXTENSIVE Nāth-yogic-technique-descriptions in the entire Dnyāneśvarī. The full Nāth-yogic kuṇḍalinī-rising sequence is rendered AS THE PRACTICE of the avyakta-upāsakas:
Preliminary stages (12.46-50)
(1) Vairāgya-mahā-pāvaka (12.46) — the GREAT-FIRE of renunciation BURNS the VIṢAYA-CAMPS; (2) Samyama-dhāṭī + hṛdaya-kapāṭī (12.47) — the samyama-charge REVERSES the indriyas and LOCKS them in the HEART-CAVE (the pratyāhāra-step); (3) Āsana-mudrā + mūla-bandha-huḍā (12.48) — the apāna-door CLOSED, the mūla-bandha-FORTRESS CONSTRUCTED; (4) Three-obstacle-clearing (12.49) — āśā-BONDS CUT, adhairya-ROCKS CLEARED, nidrā-DARKNESS SEARCHED; (5) Vajrāgni body-purification (12.50) — sapta-dhātu-BONFIRE + vyādhi-yantra-WORSHIP.
Kuṇḍalinī-rise (12.51-56)
(6) Kuṇḍalinī-ṭēmbhā (12.51) — the FLAME RAISED at the ādhāra, brilliance reaching the brow; (7) Nava-dvāra + ka-kārānta-khiḍakī (12.52) — nine-doors CROSSED, the K-end WINDOW OPENED (the brahma-randhra/daśama-dvāra); (8) Prāṇa-śakti-cāmuṇḍā (12.53) — sankalpa-RAMS killed, mano-MAHIṢA-buffalo OFFERED as BALI; (9) Mid-ascent triplet (12.54) — candra-sūrya PACIFIED, anuhata AROUSED, the SATARĀVĪ-WATER (the seventeenth-kalā-amṛta) CONQUERED; (10) Madhyamā-dādara-brahma-randhra (12.55) — the middle-channel CARVED as a STAIRCASE leading to-the-cosmic-crown-aperture; (11) Final merger (12.56) — makarānta-staircase ABANDONED, GAGANA-sky TUCKED-under-ARMPIT, FILLED into-BRAHMAN.
Verdict and pivot (12.57-59)
(12) Sama-buddhi-soham-siddhi-yoga-durga (12.57) — THUS the sama-buddhis SWALLOW the SO-AHAM-SIDDHI, infinitely-embodying the yoga-fortresses; (13) Lord-acknowledgment (12.58) — bartering self for ŚŪNYA, tē-hī mātēmci KIRĪṬĪ pāvati gā (THEY-TOO ATTAIN-ME, O Kirīṭī) — the precise iconic Marathi rendering of te prāpnuvanti mām eva; (14) Pivot-language (12.59) — aḍhika kāmhī miḷē — aisēm nāhīm āgaḷē — kaṣṭaci tayā (NOTHING-MORE-is-gained — ONLY-TOIL-for-them) — the precise iconic foreshadow of BG-12.5's kleśo'dhikataraḥ difficulty-declaration.
The distinctive Nāth-yogic vocabulary
This cluster carries the most-extensive Nāth-yogic-technical-vocabulary in the Dnyāneśvarī. The distinctive Nāth-lineage terms include:
- mūla-bandha-huḍā (12.48) — the mūlādhāra-lock-as-FORTRESS;
- kuṇḍalinī-ṭēmbhā (12.51) — the kuṇḍalinī-as-upright-FLAME/LAMP;
- ka-kārāntīcī khiḍakī (12.52) — the K-end-WINDOW (= brahma-randhra/daśama-dvāra) — uniquely-Marathi Nāth vocabulary;
- prāṇa-śakti-cāmuṇḍā (12.53) — the prāṇa as fierce-goddess offering-internal-bali;
- satarāvī-pāṇī (12.54) — the SEVENTEENTH-kalā-AMṚTA — distinctive-Nāth-supra-lunar vocabulary;
- kākhē sūniyām gagana (12.56) — TUCKING-the-SKY-UNDER-the-ARMPIT — uniquely-Jñāneśvarian Nāth-merger image;
- soham-siddhi-yoga-durga (12.57) — the so-ham-siddhi-swallowing yoga-fortress.
These terms trace precisely to Jñāneśvar's guru-paramparā: Gorakṣanātha → Gahinīnātha → Nivṛttinātha → Jñāneśvar.
Arc-position
Cluster 0438 is the precise iconic doctrinal-pivot between BG-12.3's avyakta-OBJECT-description (cluster 0437) and BG-12.5's avyakta-PATH-DIFFICULTY-declaration (next cluster). The Lord's even-handed acknowledgment (te prāpnuvanti mām eva) and the pragmatic-warning (kaṣṭaci tayā) are both delivered within this single 14-ovi block. The cluster's pedagogical-genius is precisely that it RENDERS the nirguṇa-avyakta-path CONCRETELY via the full Nāth-yogic technique-vocabulary while-simultaneously-foreshadowing the difficulty-declaration that the next cluster will make explicit. The chapter-12 arc: 12.1 = QUESTION → 12.2 = SAGUṆA-VERDICT → 12.3-4 = AVYAKTA-DESCRIPTION + EVEN-HANDED-ACKNOWLEDGMENT (clusters 0437-0438) → 12.5 = DIFFICULTY-DECLARATION → 12.6-7 = SAGUṆA-RESCUE → 12.8-12 = FIVE-PROGRESSIVE-DISCIPLINES → 12.13-20 = priya-bhakta-CHARACTERIZATION.
