जनाचे अनुभव पुसतां । कळहो उठिल अवचिता ।
हा कथाकल्लोळ श्रोतां । कौतुकें ऐकावा
janāce anubhava pusatām | kaḷaho uṭhila avacitā |
hā kathākalloḷa śrotām | kautukem aikāvā
On asking people's experience, dispute arises unexpectedly. / This wave of narratives, listeners, enjoy hearing.
येक म्हणती हा संसारु । करितां पाविजे पैलपारु ।
आपला नव्हे कीं जोजारु । जीव देवाचे
yeka mhaṇatī hā samsāru | karitām pāvije pailapāru |
āpalā navhe kīm jojāru | jīva devāce
Some say: 'Doing this samsāra, the far shore is reached. / It is not ours — the jīva belongs to the Deva.'
येक म्हणती हें न घडे । लोभ येऊन आंगीं जडे ।
पोटस्तें करणें घडे । सेवा कुटुंबाची
yeka mhaṇatī hem na ghaḍe | lobha yeūna āmgīm jaḍe |
poṭastem karaṇem ghaḍe | sevā kuṭumbācī
Some say: 'That cannot happen; lobha becomes embedded in the body. / Belly-filling must be done — the service of the family.'
येक म्हणती स्वभावें । संसार करावा सुखें नावें ।
कांहीं दान पुण्य करावें । सद्गतीकारणें
yeka mhaṇatī svabhāvem | samsāra karāvā sukhem nāvem |
kāmhīm dāna puṇya karāvem | sadgatīkāraṇem
Some say: 'By svabhāva, do samsāra in happiness as the boat. / Do some dāna and puṇya — for the sake of sadgati.'
येक म्हणती संसार खोटा । वैराग्यें घ्यावा देशवटा ।
येणें स्वर्ग्यलोकींच्या वाटा । मोकळ्या होती
yeka mhaṇatī samsāra khoṭā | vairāgyem ghyāvā deśavaṭā |
yeṇem svargyalokīmcyā vāṭā | mokaḷyā hotī
Some say: 'Samsāra is false; by vairāgya one should take exile; / by this, the paths to svarga-loka open.'
येक म्हणती कोठें जावें । वेर्थचि कासया हिंडावें ।
आपुलें आश्रमी असावें । आश्रमधर्म करूनी
yeka mhaṇatī koṭhem jāvem | verthaci kāsayā himḍāvem |
āpulem āśramī asāvem | āśramadharma karūnī
Some say: 'Where to go? Why wander in vain? / Stay in one's own āśrama — fulfilling the āśrama-dharma.'
येक म्हणती कैंचा धर्म । अवघा होतसे अधर्म ।
ये संसारीं नाना कर्म । करणें लागे
yeka mhaṇatī kaimcā dharma | avaghā hotase adharma |
ye samsārīm nānā karma | karaṇem lāge
Some say: 'Whence dharma? All becomes adharma; / in this samsāra, various karmas must be done.'
येक म्हणती बहुतांपरी । वासना असावी वरी ।
येणेंचि तरिजे संसारीं । अनायासें
yeka mhaṇatī bahutāmparī | vāsanā asāvī varī |
yeṇemci tarije samsārīm | anāyāsem
Some say: 'By various means, vāsanā should be held above [purified]. / By this alone samsāra is crossed — effortlessly.'
येक म्हणती कारण भाव । भावेंचि पाविजे देव ।
येर हें अवघेंचि वाव । गथागोवी
yeka mhaṇatī kāraṇa bhāva | bhāvemci pāvije deva |
yera hem avaghemci vāva | gathāgovī
Some say: 'Bhāva (feeling) is the cause; by bhāva alone Deva is attained. / All else is empty tangle.'
येक म्हणती वडिलें जीवीं । अवघीं देवचि मानावीं ।
मायेबापें पूजीत जावीं । येकाभावें
yeka mhaṇatī vaḍilem jīvīm | avaghīm devaci mānāvīm |
māyebāpem pūjīta jāvīm | yekābhāvem
Some say: 'Elders in one's life — all should be considered as Deva. / Mother and father should be worshipped with single bhāva.'
येक म्हणती देवब्राह्मण । त्यांचें करावें पूजन ।
मायेबाप नारायेण । विश्वजनाचा
yeka mhaṇatī devabrāhmaṇa | tyāmcem karāvem pūjana |
māyebāpa nārāyeṇa | viśvajanācā
Some say: 'Deva and Brāhmaṇa — they are to be worshipped. / Mother and father are Nārāyaṇa of all the people.'
येक म्हणती शास्त्र पाहावें । तेथें निरोपिलें देवें ।
तेणें प्रमाणेंचि जावें । परलोकासी
yeka mhaṇatī śāstra pāhāvem | tethem niropilem devem |
teṇem pramāṇemci jāvem | paralokāsī
Some say: 'Śāstra must be examined — there the Deva has spoken. / By that authority alone one should proceed to the other world.'
येक म्हणती अहो जना । शास्त्र पाहातां पुरवेना ।
याकारणें साधुजना । शरण जावें
yeka mhaṇatī aho janā | śāstra pāhātām puravenā |
yākāraṇem sādhujanā | śaraṇa jāvem
Some say: 'O people, even on examining śāstra, it is not sufficient. / For this reason, one should take refuge in the sādhu-folk.'
येक म्हणती सांडा गोठी । वायांचि करिता चाउटी ।
सर्वांस कारण पोटीं । भूतदया असावी
yeka mhaṇatī sāmḍā goṭhī | vāyāmci karitā cāuṭī |
sarvāmsa kāraṇa poṭīm | bhūtadayā asāvī
Some say: 'Leave all argument; why engage in idle chatter? / For all, the essential thing is bhūta-dayā (compassion for beings) in the belly.'
येक म्हणती येकचि बरवें । आपुल्या आचारें असावें ।
अंतकाळीं नाम घ्यावें । सर्वोत्तमाचें
yeka mhaṇatī yekaci baravem | āpulyā ācārem asāvem |
amtakāḷīm nāma ghyāvem | sarvottamācem
Some say: 'One thing alone is good — remain in one's own ācāra. / At the time of death, take the name of the Supreme.'
येक म्हणती पुण्य असेल । तरीच नाम येईल ।
नाहीं तरी भुली पडेल । अंतकाळीं
yeka mhaṇatī puṇya asela | tarīca nāma yeīla |
nāhīm tarī bhulī paḍela | amtakāḷīm
Some say: 'If puṇya exists, only then will the Name come. / Otherwise one will fall into confusion at the end.'
येक म्हणती जीत असावे । तंवचि सार्थक करावें ।
येक म्हणती फिरावें । तिर्थाटण
yeka mhaṇatī jīta asāve | tamvaci sārthaka karāvem |
yeka mhaṇatī phirāvem | tirthāṭaṇa
Some say: 'While alive, one should accomplish the goal.' / Some say: 'Go on tīrthāṭana (pilgrimage-tour).'
येक म्हणती हे अटाटी । पाणीपाषाणाची भेटी ।
चुबकळ्या मारितां हिंपुटी । कासाविस व्हावें
yeka mhaṇatī he aṭāṭī | pāṇīpāṣāṇācī bheṭī |
cubakaḷyā māritām himpuṭī | kāsāvisa vhāvem
Some say: 'This is arduous — meeting of water and stone. / Taking dips, growing weak — one becomes exhausted.'
येक म्हणती सांडी वाचाळी । अगाध महिमा भूमंडळीं ।
दर्शनमात्रें होय होळी । माहापातकाची
yeka mhaṇatī sāmḍī vācāḷī | agādha mahimā bhūmamḍaḷīm |
darśanamātrem hoya hoḷī | māhāpātakācī
Some say: 'Abandon garrulity; the greatness on earth is profound. / By mere darśana, mahā-pātaka is burned up.'
येक म्हणती तीर्थ स्वभावें । कारण मन अवरावें ।
येक म्हणती कीर्तन करावें । सावकास
yeka mhaṇatī tīrtha svabhāvem | kāraṇa mana avarāvem |
yeka mhaṇatī kīrtana karāvem | sāvakāsa
Some say: 'Tīrtha is for its own sake; the important thing is to control the mind.' / Some say: 'Do kīrtana leisurely.'
येक म्हणती योग बरवा । मुख्य तोचि आधीं साधावा ।
देहो अमरचि करावा । अकस्मात
yeka mhaṇatī yoga baravā | mukhya toci ādhīm sādhāvā |
deho amaraci karāvā | akasmāta
Some say: 'Yoga is good; that chief should be accomplished first. / Make the body immortal, suddenly.'
येक म्हणती ऐसें काये । काळवंचना करूं नये ।
येक म्हणती धरावी सोये । भक्तिमार्गाची
yeka mhaṇatī aisem kāye | kāḷavamcanā karūm naye |
yeka mhaṇatī dharāvī soye | bhaktimārgācī
Some say: 'What is this? Do not waste time. / Some say: adopt the stance — that of bhakti-mārga.'
येक म्हणती ज्ञान बरवें । येक म्हणती साधन करावें ।
येक म्हणती मुक्त असावें । निरंतर
yeka mhaṇatī jñāna baravem | yeka mhaṇatī sādhana karāvem |
yeka mhaṇatī mukta asāvem | niramtara
Some say: 'jñāna is good.' Some say: 'sādhana should be done.' / Some say: 'Be mukta — continuously.'
येक म्हणती अनर्गळा । धरीं पापाचा कंटाळा ।
येक म्हणती रे मोकळा । मार्ग आमुचा
yeka mhaṇatī anargaḷā | dharīm pāpācā kamṭāḷā |
yeka mhaṇatī re mokaḷā | mārga āmucā
Some say: 'Unrestrained — hold contempt for pāpa.' / Some say: 'Be free — our path.'
येक म्हणती हें विशेष । करूं नये निंदा द्वेष ।
येक म्हणती सावकास । दुष्टसंग त्यागावा
yeka mhaṇatī hem viśeṣa | karūm naye nimdā dveṣa |
yeka mhaṇatī sāvakāsa | duṣṭasamga tyāgāvā
Some say: 'This is special — do not do ninda (reproach), dveṣa (hatred).' / Some say: 'Slowly, duṣṭa-sanga (bad company) should be renounced.'
येक म्हणती ज्याचें खावें । त्या सन्मुखचि मरावें ।
तेणें तत्काळचि पावावें । मोक्षपद
yeka mhaṇatī jyācem khāvem | tyā sanmukhaci marāvem |
teṇem tatkāḷaci pāvāvem | mokṣapada
Some say: 'Whose salt you eat, in front of him you must die; / by that, instantly, mokṣa-pada is attained.'
येक म्हणती सांडा गोठी । आधीं पाहिजे ते रोटी ।
मग करावी चाउटी । सावकास
yeka mhaṇatī sāmḍā goṭhī | ādhīm pāhije te roṭī |
maga karāvī cāuṭī | sāvakāsa
Some say: 'Leave argument; first is needed the rotī (bread); / then, leisurely, do the chatter.'
येक म्हणती पाउस असावा । मग सकळ योग बरवा ।
कारण दुष्काळ न पडावा । म्हणिजे बरें
yeka mhaṇatī pāusa asāvā | maga sakaḷa yoga baravā |
kāraṇa duṣkāḷa na paḍāvā | mhaṇije barem
Some say: 'Rain should come; then all yoga is good. / The essential is that there be no drought — that is what is good.'
येक म्हणती तपोनिधी । होतां वोळती सकळ सिद्धी ।
येक म्हणती रे आधीं । इंद्रपद साधावें
yeka mhaṇatī taponidhī | hotām voḷatī sakaḷa siddhī |
yeka mhaṇatī re ādhīm | imdrapada sādhāvem
Some say: 'Treasure of tapas — then all siddhis incline; / some say: first, indra-pada should be accomplished.'
येक म्हणती आगम पाहावा । वेताळ प्रसन्न करून घ्यावा ।
तेणें पाविजे देवा । स्वर्गलोकीं
yeka mhaṇatī āgama pāhāvā | vetāḷa prasanna karūna ghyāvā |
teṇem pāvije devā | svargalokīm
Some say: 'Āgama should be studied, and Vetāla made to be gracious. / By this, one attains the Deva in svarga-loka.'
येक म्हणती अघोरमंत्र । तेणें होईजे स्वतंत्र ।
श्रीहरी जयेचा कळत्र । तेचि वोळे
yeka mhaṇatī aghoramamtra | teṇem hoīje svatamtra |
śrīharī jayecā kaḷatra | teci voḷe
Some say: 'Aghora-mantra — by this one becomes svatantra; / Śrī Hari whose consort he is — she becomes favourable.'
ती लागले सर्व धर्म । तेथें कैंचें क्रियाकर्म ।
येक म्हणती कुकर्म । तिच्या मदे
tī lāgale sarva dharma | tethem kaimcem kriyākarma |
yeka mhaṇatī kukarma | ticyā made
All dharmas pertaining to Her — there, what kriyā-karma? / Some say: that is kukarma — by Her intoxication.
येक म्हणती येक साक्षप । करावा मृत्यंजयाचा जप ।
तेणें गुणें सर्व संकल्प । सिद्धीतें पावती
yeka mhaṇatī yeka sākṣapa | karāvā mṛtyamjayācā japa |
teṇem guṇem sarva samkalpa | siddhītem pāvatī
Some say: 'Another effort — do the japa of Mṛtyuñjaya; / by that quality, all samkalpas are attained to siddhi.'
येक म्हणती बटु भैरव । तेणें पाविजे वैभव ।
येक म्हणती झोटिंग सर्व । पुर्वितसे
yeka mhaṇatī baṭu bhairava | teṇem pāvije vaibhava |
yeka mhaṇatī jhoṭimga sarva | purvitase
Some say: 'Baṭu-Bhairava — by him, vaibhava (grandeur) is attained.' / Some say: 'Jhoṭinga — he fulfills all.'
येक म्हणती काळी कंकाळी । येक म्हणती भद्रकाळी ।
येक म्हणती उचिष्ट चांडाळी । साहें करावी
yeka mhaṇatī kāḷī kamkāḷī | yeka mhaṇatī bhadrakāḷī |
yeka mhaṇatī uciṣṭa cāmḍāḷī | sāhem karāvī
Some say: 'Kālī-Kankālī'; some say: 'Bhadra-kāḷī'; / some say: 'Ucchiṣṭa-Cāṇḍālī should be venerated.'
येक म्हणती विघ्नहर । येक म्हणती भोळा शंकर ।
येक म्हणती सत्वर । पावे भगवती
yeka mhaṇatī vighnahara | yeka mhaṇatī bhoḷā śamkara |
yeka mhaṇatī satvara | pāve bhagavatī
Some say: 'Vighna-hara (Gaṇeśa)'; some say: 'bhoḷā (innocent) Śankara'; / some say: 'swiftly — Bhagavatī inclines.'
येक म्हणती मल्लारी । सत्वरचि सभाग्य करी ।
येक म्हणती माहा बरी । भक्ति वेंकटेशाची
yeka mhaṇatī mallārī | satvaraci sabhāgya karī |
yeka mhaṇatī māhā barī | bhakti vemkaṭeśācī
Some say: 'Mallārī quickly makes one fortunate.' / Some say: 'Excellent is the bhakti of Venkaṭeśa.'
येक म्हणती पूर्व ठेवा । येक म्हणती प्रेत्न करावा ।
येक म्हणती भार घालावा । देवाच वरी
yeka mhaṇatī pūrva ṭhevā | yeka mhaṇatī pretna karāvā |
yeka mhaṇatī bhāra ghālāvā | devāca varī
Some say: 'pūrva-ṭhevā' (prior deposit); some say: 'effort should be made'; / some say: 'lay the burden upon the Deva.'
येक म्हणती देव कैंचा । अंतचि पाहातो भल्यांचा ।
येक म्हणती हा युगाचा । युगधर्म
yeka mhaṇatī deva kaimcā | amtaci pāhāto bhalyāmcā |
yeka mhaṇatī hā yugācā | yugadharma
Some say: 'Where is Deva? He only watches the end of the good.' / Some say: 'This is the yuga-dharma of the yuga.'
येक आश्चीर्य मानिती । येक विस्मयो करिती ।
येक कंटाळोन म्हणती । काये होईल तें पाहावें
yeka āścīrya mānitī | yeka vismayo karitī |
yeka kamṭāḷona mhaṇatī | kāye hoīla tem pāhāvem
Some marvel; some are astonished. / Some, exasperated, say: 'Let us see what will happen.'
ऐसे प्रपंचिक जन । लक्षणें सांगतां गहन ।
परंतु कांहीं येक चिन्ह । अल्पमात्र बोलिलों
aise prapamcika jana | lakṣaṇem sāmgatām gahana |
paramtu kāmhīm yeka cinha | alpamātra bolilom
Thus, prapañcika (worldly) people — telling their marks is endless. / Yet I have spoken some slight sign, in brief.
आतां असो हा स्वभाव । ज्ञात्यांचा कैसा अनुभव ।
तोहि सांगिजेल सर्व । सावध ऐका
ātām aso hā svabhāva | jñātyāmcā kaisā anubhava |
tohi sāmgijela sarva | sāvadha aikā
Now let this disposition be; how is the experience of the jñānīs? / That too will all be told; attentively hear.
येक म्हणती करावी भक्ती । श्रीहरी देईल सद्गती ।
येक म्हणती ब्रह्मप्राप्ती । कर्मेंचि होये
yeka mhaṇatī karāvī bhaktī | śrīharī deīla sadgatī |
yeka mhaṇatī brahmaprāptī | karmemci hoye
Some say: 'Do bhakti; Śrī Hari will give sadgati.' / Some say: 'Brahma-prāpti comes by karma alone.'
येक म्हणती भोग सुटेना । ज्न्ममरण हें तुटेना ।
येक म्हणती उर्मी नाना । अज्ञानाच्या
yeka mhaṇatī bhoga suṭenā | jnmamaraṇa hem tuṭenā |
yeka mhaṇatī urmī nānā | ajñānācyā
Some say: 'Enjoyment does not cease; birth-death does not snap.' / Some say: 'Various surges (ūrmīs) of ajñāna.'
येक म्हणती सर्व ब्रह्म । तेथें कैंचें क्रियाकर्म ।
येक म्हणती हा अधर्म । बोलोंचि नये
yeka mhaṇatī sarva brahma | tethem kaimcem kriyākarma |
yeka mhaṇatī hā adharma | bolomci naye
Some say: 'All is Brahma; there what kriyā-karma?' / Some say: 'This is adharma — should not even be spoken.'
येक म्हणती सर्व नासें । उरलें तेंचि ब्रह्म असे ।
येक म्हणती ऐसें नसे । समाधान
yeka mhaṇatī sarva nāsem | uralem temci brahma ase |
yeka mhaṇatī aisem nase | samādhāna
Some say: 'All perishes; what remains, that alone is Brahma.' / Some say: 'Such is not samādhāna.'
सर्वब्रह्म केवळ ब्रह्म । दोनी पूर्वपक्षाचे भ्रम ।
अनुभवाचें वेगळें वर्म । म्हणती येक
sarvabrahma kevaḷa brahma | donī pūrvapakṣāce bhrama |
anubhavācem vegaḷem varma | mhaṇatī yeka
Sarva-brahma or kevala-brahma — both are fallacies of pūrva-pakṣa. / The real mark of anubhava is something else, say some.
येक म्हणती हें न घडे । अनुर्वाच्य वस्तु घडे ।
जें बोलतां मोन्य पडे । वेदशास्त्रांसी
yeka mhaṇatī hem na ghaḍe | anurvācya vastu ghaḍe |
jem bolatām monya paḍe | vedaśāstrāmsī
Some say: 'This does not happen; the anirvācya (unutterable) vastu occurs — / on speaking it, Vedas and Śāstras fall silent.'
तव श्रोता अनुवादला । म्हणे निश्चये कोण केला ।
सिद्धांतमतें अनुभवाला । उरी कैंची
tava śrotā anuvādalā | mhaṇe niścaye koṇa kelā |
siddhāmtamatem anubhavālā | urī kaimcī
Then the listener responded: 'Who made the determination? / In the final-doctrine position of anubhava, what remainder?'
अनुभव देहीं वेगळाले । हें पूर्वीच बोलिलें ।
आतां कांहीं येक केलें । नवचे कीं
anubhava dehīm vegaḷāle | hem pūrvīca bolilem |
ātām kāmhīm yeka kelem | navace kīm
Anubhavas are various in different bodies — this has been said before. / Now what is the latest thing — [say] some.
येक साक्षत्वें वर्तती । साक्षी वेगळाचि म्हणती ।
आपण दृष्टा ऐसी स्थिती । स्वानुभवाची
yeka sākṣatvem vartatī | sākṣī vegaḷāci mhaṇatī |
āpaṇa dṛṣṭā aisī sthitī | svānubhavācī
Some conduct as sākṣin (witness); they say sākṣī is distinct — / 'I am the dṛṣṭā (seer)' — such is the state of svānubhava.
दृश्यापासून द्रष्टा वेगळा । ऐसी अलिप्तपणाची कळा ।
आपण साक्षत्वें निराळा । स्वानुभवे
dṛśyāpāsūna draṣṭā vegaḷā | aisī aliptapaṇācī kaḷā |
āpaṇa sākṣatvem nirāḷā | svānubhave
The dṛṣṭā is separate from the dṛśya — such is the kalā (art) of aliptatā (detachment). / One is sākṣin-wise, aloof — by svānubhava.
सकळ पदार्थ जाणतां । तो पदार्थाहून पर्ता ।
देहीं असोनी अलिप्तता । सहजचि जाली
sakaḷa padārtha jāṇatām | to padārthāhūna partā |
dehīm asonī aliptatā | sahajaci jālī
Knowing all pādārthas, he is beyond the pādārtha. / Though in body, aliptatā has come spontaneously.
येक ऐसें स्वानुभवें । म्हणती साक्षत्वें वर्तावें ।
दृश्य असोनि वेगळें व्हावें । द्रष्टेपणें
yeka aisem svānubhavem | mhaṇatī sākṣatvem vartāvem |
dṛśya asoni vegaḷem vhāvem | draṣṭepaṇem
One, by such svānubhava, says: 'Conduct as sākṣin. / Though dṛśya is, be apart as dṛṣṭā.'
येक म्हणती नाहीं भेद । वस्तु ठाईंची अभेद ।
तेथें कैंचा मतिमंद द्रष्टा आणिला
yeka mhaṇatī nāhīm bheda | vastu ṭhāīmcī abheda |
tethem kaimcā matimamda draṣṭā āṇilā
Some say: 'No bheda; vastu is abheda at its root. / There whence the dull-buddhi dṛṣṭā, brought in?'
अवघी साकरचि स्वभावें । तेथें कडु काय निवडावें ।
द्रष्टा कैंचा स्वानुभवें । अवघेंचि ब्रह्म
avaghī sākaraci svabhāvem | tethem kaḍu kāya nivaḍāvem |
draṣṭā kaimcā svānubhavem | avaghemci brahma
If all is sugar by svabhāva — there what bitter is selected? / How is the dṛṣṭā from svānubhava? — all is Brahma.
प्रपंच परब्रह्म अभेद । भेदवादी मानिती भेद ।
परी हा आत्मा स्वानंद । आकारला
prapamca parabrahma abheda | bhedavādī mānitī bheda |
parī hā ātmā svānamda | ākāralā
Prapañca and parabrahma are abheda; bheda-vādīs take them as different. / But this Ātman is svānanda — [apparently] taken form.
विघुरलें तुप थिजलें । तैसें निर्गुणचि गुणा आलें ।
तेथें काय वेगळें केलें । द्रष्टेपणें
vighuralem tupa thijalem | taisem nirguṇaci guṇā ālem |
tethem kāya vegaḷem kelem | draṣṭepaṇem
Melted ghee congealed — thus the nirguṇa came to guṇa. / There, what separateness by dṛṣṭā-hood?
म्हणौनि द्रष्टा आणी दृश्य । अवघा येकचि जगदीश ।
द्रष्टेपणाचे सायास । कासयासी
mhaṇauni draṣṭā āṇī dṛśya | avaghā yekaci jagadīśa |
draṣṭepaṇāce sāyāsa | kāsayāsī
Therefore dṛṣṭā and dṛśya — all one jagat-īśa (Lord of world). / The effort of dṛṣṭā-hood — for what?
ब्रह्मचि आकारलें सर्व । ऐसा येकांचा अनुभव ।
ऐसे हे दोनी स्वभाव । निरोपिले
brahmaci ākāralem sarva | aisā yekāmcā anubhava |
aise he donī svabhāva | niropile
'Brahma itself has taken all form' — such is the experience of some. / These two dispositions have been expounded.
अवघा आत्मा आकाराअ । आपण भिन्न कैंचा उरला ।
दुसरा अनुभव बोलिला । ऐसियापरी
avaghā ātmā ākārāa | āpaṇa bhinna kaimcā uralā |
dusarā anubhava bolilā | aisiyāparī
All is the Ātman taking form; how is oneself left as distinct? / The second anubhava was spoken thus.
ऐक तिसरा अनुभव । प्रपंच सारूनियां सर्व ।
कांहीं नाहीं तोचि देव । ऐसें म्हणती
aika tisarā anubhava | prapamca sārūniyām sarva |
kāmhīm nāhīm toci deva | aisem mhaṇatī
Hear the third anubhava — setting aside all prapañca, / 'What is 'nothing' — that itself is Deva' — so they say.
दृश्य अवघें वेगळें केलें । केवळ अदृश्यचि उरलें ।
तेंचि ब्रह्म अनुभविलें । म्हणती येक
dṛśya avaghem vegaḷem kelem | kevaḷa adṛśyaci uralem |
temci brahma anubhavilem | mhaṇatī yeka
All dṛśya is made separate; only adṛśya remains. / 'That alone is Brahma-experienced' — say some.
परी तें ब्रह्म म्हणों नये । उपायासारिखा अपाये ।
सुन्यत्वास ब्रह्म काये । म्हणों येईल
parī tem brahma mhaṇom naye | upāyāsārikhā apāye |
sunyatvāsa brahma kāye | mhaṇom yeīla
But that should not be called Brahma — misfortune resembling remedy; / Śūnyatva [emptiness] — how can it be called Brahma?
दृश्य अवघें वोलांडिलें । अदृश्य सुन्यत्वीं पडिलें ।
ब्रह्म म्हणौनि मुरडलें । तेथुनिच मागे
dṛśya avaghem volāmḍilem | adṛśya sunyatvīm paḍilem |
brahma mhaṇauni muraḍalem | tethunica māge
All dṛśya is traversed; adṛśya falls into śūnyatva. / Calling it Brahma, one has turned back from the very [destination].
इकडे दृश्य तिकडे देव । मध्यें सुन्यत्वाचा ठाव ।
तयास मंदबुद्धिस्तव । प्राणी ब्रह्म म्हणे
ikaḍe dṛśya tikaḍe deva | madhyem sunyatvācā ṭhāva |
tayāsa mamdabuddhistava | prāṇī brahma mhaṇe
On this side dṛśya, on that side Deva; between is the place of śūnyatva. / That, by dull-buddhi, the creature calls Brahma.
रायास नाहीं वोळखिलें । सेवकास रावसें कल्पिलें ।
परी तें अवघें वेर्थ गेलें । राजा देखतां
rāyāsa nāhīm voḷakhilem | sevakāsa rāvasem kalpilem |
parī tem avaghem vertha gelem | rājā dekhatām
Not recognizing the king, one imagined the servant as king; / but all that went in vain when the king was seen.
तैसें सुन्यत्व कल्पिलें ब्रह्म । पुढें देखतां परब्रह्म ।
सुन्यत्वचा अवघा भ्रम । तुटोन गेला
taisem sunyatva kalpilem brahma | puḍhem dekhatām parabrahma |
sunyatvacā avaghā bhrama | tuṭona gelā
Likewise śūnyatva was imagined as Brahma; then on seeing parabrahma, / all the delusion of śūnyatva was snapped.
परी हा सूक्ष्म आडताळा । वारी विवेकें वेगळा ।
जैसें दुग्ध घेऊन जळा । राजहंस सांडी
parī hā sūkṣma āḍatāḷā | vārī vivekem vegaḷā |
jaisem dugdha gheūna jaḷā | rājahamsa sāmḍī
But this is a subtle obstruction; by vivek it is set apart, / just as rāja-hamsa takes the milk and leaves the water.
आधीं दृश्या सोडिलें । मग सुन्यत्व वोलांडिलें ।
मूळमायेपरतें देखिलें । परब्रह्म
ādhīm dṛśyā soḍilem | maga sunyatva volāmḍilem |
mūḷamāyeparatem dekhilem | parabrahma
First dṛśya was released; then śūnyatva was traversed; / beyond mūla-māyā was seen — parabrahma.
वेगळेपणें पाहाणें घडे । तेणें वृत्ति सुन्यत्वीं पडे ।
पोटीं संदेह पवाडे । सुन्यत्वाचा
vegaḷepaṇem pāhāṇem ghaḍe | teṇem vṛtti sunyatvīm paḍe |
poṭīm samdeha pavāḍe | sunyatvācā
Looking with separateness happens — by that vṛtti falls into śūnyatva; / doubt of śūnyatva spreads in the belly.
भिन्नपणें अनुभविलें । तयास सुन्य ऐसें बोलिलें ।
वस्तु लक्षितां अभिन्न जालें । पाहिजे आधीं
bhinnapaṇem anubhavilem | tayāsa sunya aisem bolilem |
vastu lakṣitām abhinna jālem | pāhije ādhīm
What is experienced with divided-ness is called 'śūnya'; / vastu is to be aimed at abheda (non-different) — first.
वस्तु आपणचि होणें । ऐसें वस्तुचें पाहाणें ।
निश्चयेंसीं भिन्नपणें । सुन्यत्व लाभे
vastu āpaṇaci hoṇem | aisem vastucem pāhāṇem |
niścayemsīm bhinnapaṇem | sunyatva lābhe
To become vastu oneself — that is the [true] seeing of vastu. / Unquestionably, in separateness, śūnyatva is obtained.
याकारणें सुन्य कांहीं । परब्रह्म होणार नाहीं ।
वस्तुरूप होऊन पाहीं । स्वानुभवें
yākāraṇem sunya kāmhīm | parabrahma hoṇāra nāhīm |
vasturūpa hoūna pāhīm | svānubhavem
For this reason, śūnya will never become parabrahma. / Become vastu-rūpa, see — by svānubhava.
आपण वस्तु सिद्धचि आहे । मन मी ऐसें कल्पूं नये ।
साधु सांगती उपाये । तूंचि आत्मा
āpaṇa vastu siddhaci āhe | mana mī aisem kalpūm naye |
sādhu sāmgatī upāye | tūmci ātmā
Oneself is vastu already-accomplished; 'mind is I' — should not be imagined. / The saints say the means: 'You yourself are Ātman.'
मन मी ऐसें नाथिलें । संतीं नाहीं निरोपिलें ।
मानावें कोणाच्या बोलें । मन मी ऐसें
mana mī aisem nāthilem | samtīm nāhīm niropilem |
mānāvem koṇācyā bolem | mana mī aisem
'Mind is I' is baseless; the saints have not declared it. / By whose word should one accept 'mind is I'?
संतवचनीं ठेवितां भावे । तोचि शुद्ध स्वानुभव ।
मनाचा तैसाच स्वभाव । आपण वस्तु
samtavacanīm ṭhevitām bhāve | toci śuddha svānubhava |
manācā taisāca svabhāva | āpaṇa vastu
Placing faith on saint-speech — that is pure svānubhava. / The svabhāva of mind — oneself is vastu.
जयाचा घ्यावा अनुभव । तोचि आपण निरावेव ।
आपुला घेती अनुभव । विश्वजन
jayācā ghyāvā anubhava | toci āpaṇa nirāveva |
āpulā ghetī anubhava | viśvajana
He whose anubhava is to be taken — he himself is niravayava (partless). / The entire world takes its own anubhava.
लोभी धन साधूं गेले । तंव ते लोभी धनचि जाले ।
मग भाग्यपुरुषीं भोगिलें । सावकास
lobhī dhana sādhūm gele | tamva te lobhī dhanaci jāle |
maga bhāgyapuruṣīm bhogilem | sāvakāsa
A lobhī went to obtain wealth; but he himself became lobhī-wealth. / Then a bhāgya-puruṣa (fortunate person) enjoyed it leisurely.
तैसें देहबुद्धी सोडितां । साधकास जालें तत्वता ।
अनुभवाची मुख्य वार्ता । ते हे ऐसी
taisem dehabuddhī soḍitām | sādhakāsa jālem tatvatā |
anubhavācī mukhya vārtā | te he aisī
Likewise on releasing deha-buddhi, the sādhaka has attained truly. / The chief matter of anubhava — it is thus.
आपण वस्तु मुळीं येक । ऐसा ज्ञानाचा विवेक ।
येथून हा ज्ञानदशक । संपूर्ण जाला
āpaṇa vastu muḷīm yeka | aisā jñānācā viveka |
yethūna hā jñānadaśaka | sampūrṇa jālā
'Oneself is vastu, one from the root' — such is jñāna-vivek. / From here this jñāna-daśaka is complete.
आत्मज्ञान निरोपिलें । येथामतीनें बोलिलें ।
न्यूनपर्ण क्ष्मा केलें । पाहिजे श्रोतीं
ātmajñāna niropilem | yethāmatīnem bolilem |
nyūnaparṇa kṣmā kelem | pāhije śrotīm
Ātma-jñāna has been expounded; according to my understanding I have spoken. / Please forgive the excesses and omissions — O listeners.
