धन्य धन्य तो वाल्मीक । ऋषीमाजी पुण्यश्लोक ।
जयाचेन हा त्रिलोक्य । पावनजाला
dhanya dhanya to vālmīka | ṛṣīmājī puṇyaśloka |
jayācena hā trilokya | pāvanajālā
Blessed is Vālmīki — praise-śloka-worthy among ṛṣis; / by whom these three worlds — became pāvana.
भविष्य आणी शतकोटी । हें तों नाहीं देखिलें दृष्टीं ।
धांडोळितां सकळ सृष्टि । श्रुत नव्हे
bhaviṣya āṇī śatakoṭī | hem tom nāhīm dekhilem dṛṣṭīm |
dhāmḍoḷitām sakaḷa sṛṣṭi | śruta navhe
Future and śata-koṭi [Rāmāyaṇa] — have not been seen by eye; / searching all sṛṣṭi — is not heard.
भविष्याचें येक वचन । कदाचित जालें प्रमाण ।
तरी आश्चिर्य मानिती जन । भूमंडळीचे
bhaviṣyācem yeka vacana | kadācita jālem pramāṇa |
tarī āścirya mānitī jana | bhūmamḍaḷīce
One future-word — if it by chance becomes authority, / people consider it a wonder — on earth.
नसतां रघुनाथावतार । नाहीं पाहिला शास्त्राधार ।
रामकथेचा विस्तार । विस्तारिला जेणें
nasatām raghunāthāvatāra | nāhīm pāhilā śāstrādhāra |
rāmakathecā vistāra | vistārilā jeṇem
Without Raghunātha's avatāra, no śāstra-basis was seen. / The Rāma-kathā's expanse — was expanded by him.
ऐसा जयाचा वाग्विळास । ऐकोनी संतोषला महेश ।
मग विभागिलें त्रयलोक्यास । शतकोटी रामायेण
aisā jayācā vāgviḷāsa | aikonī samtoṣalā maheśa |
maga vibhāgilem trayalokyāsa | śatakoṭī rāmāyeṇa
Such is his speech-delight — hearing, Maheśa was pleased. / Then partitioned into three worlds — śata-koṭi (billion) Rāmāyaṇa.
ज्याचें कवित्व शंकरें पाहिलें । इतरां न वचे अनुमानलें ।
रामौपासकांसी जालें । परम समाधान
jyācem kavitva śamkarem pāhilem | itarām na vace anumānalem |
rāmaupāsakāmsī jālem | parama samādhāna
His poetry Śankara examined; to others not inferable. / To Rāma-upāsakas occurred — supreme samādhāna.
ऋषी होते थोर थोर । बहुतीं केला कवित्वविचार ।
परी वाल्मीकासारिखा कवेश्वर । न भूतो न भविष्यति
ṛṣī hote thora thora | bahutīm kelā kavitvavicāra |
parī vālmīkāsārikhā kaveśvara | na bhūto na bhaviṣyati
Ṛṣis were great-great; many made poetic-considerations; / but a poet-lord like Vālmīki — never was nor will be.
पूर्वीं केली दृष्ट कर्में । परी पावन जाला रामनामें ।
नाम जपतां दृढ नेमें । पुण्यें सीमा सांडिली
pūrvīm kelī dṛṣṭa karmem | parī pāvana jālā rāmanāmem |
nāma japatām dṛḍha nemem | puṇyem sīmā sāmḍilī
Formerly he did wicked karmas; but became pāvana by Rāma-nāma. / Chanting the Name with firm rule — crossed the limits of puṇya.
उफराटे नाम म्हणतां वाचें । पर्वत फुटले पापाचे ।
ध्वज उभारले पुण्याचे । ब्रह्मांडावरुते
upharāṭe nāma mhaṇatām vācem | parvata phuṭale pāpāce |
dhvaja ubhārale puṇyāce | brahmāmḍāvarute
On reciting the Name reversed — mountains of pāpa split; / flags of puṇya were raised — above the brahmāṇḍa.
वाल्मीकें जेथें तप केलें । तें वन पुण्यपावन जालें ।
शुष्क काष्ठीं अंकुर फुटले । तपोबळें जयाच्या
vālmīkem jethem tapa kelem | tem vana puṇyapāvana jālem |
śuṣka kāṣṭhīm amkura phuṭale | tapobaḷem jayācyā
Where Vālmīki did tapas — that forest became pāvana-puṇya; / dry wood sprouted — by the power of his tapas.
पूर्वी होता वाल्हाकोळी । जीवघातकी भूमंडळीं ।
तोचि वंदिजे सकळीं । विबुधीं आणि ऋषेश्वरीं
pūrvī hotā vālhākoḷī | jīvaghātakī bhūmamḍaḷīm |
toci vamdije sakaḷīm | vibudhīm āṇi ṛṣeśvarīm
Previously he was Vālha-Koḷī, a life-killer on earth; / that same is bowed-to by all — the wise and ṛṣīśvaras.
उपरती आणि अनुताप । तेथें कैंचें उरेल पाप ।
देह्यांततपें पुण्यरूप । दुसरा जन्म जाला
uparatī āṇi anutāpa | tethem kaimcem urela pāpa |
dehyāmtatapem puṇyarūpa | dusarā janma jālā
Awakening and repentance — there what pāpa remains? / Body-pervading tapas, puṇya-form — became the second birth.
अनुतापें आसन घातलें । देह्यांचें वारुळ जालें ।
तेंचि नाम पुढें पडिलें । वाल्मीक ऐसें
anutāpem āsana ghātalem | dehyāmcem vāruḷa jālem |
temci nāma puḍhem paḍilem | vālmīka aisem
By repentance he sat in meditation; his body became an anthill; / that very name fell ahead — 'Vālmīki.'
वारुळास वाल्मीक बोलिजे । म्हणोनि वाल्मीक नाम साजे ।
जयाच्या तीव्र तपें झिजे । हृदय तापसाचें
vāruḷāsa vālmīka bolije | mhaṇoni vālmīka nāma sāje |
jayācyā tīvra tapem jhije | hṛdaya tāpasācem
An anthill is called Vālmīka; hence the name Vālmīki fits; / by whose fierce tapas — the heart of the tapasī melts.
जो तापसांमाजीं श्रेष्ठ । जो कवेश्वरांमधें वरिष्ठ ।
जयाचें बोलणें पष्ट । निश्चयाचें
jo tāpasāmmājīm śreṣṭha | jo kaveśvarāmmadhem variṣṭha |
jayācem bolaṇem paṣṭa | niścayācem
Who is chief among tapasīs; who is the best among kaveśvaras; / whose speech is clear — of certainty.
जो निष्ठावंतांचें मंडण । रघुनाथभक्तांचें भूषण ।
ज्याची धारणा असाधारण । साधकां सदृढ करी
jo niṣṭhāvamtāmcem mamḍaṇa | raghunāthabhaktāmcem bhūṣaṇa |
jyācī dhāraṇā asādhāraṇa | sādhakām sadṛḍha karī
Who is the ornament of the faithful; the adornment of Raghunātha-bhaktas; / whose dhāraṇā is extraordinary — firms the sādhakas.
धन्य वाल्मीक ऋषेश्वर । समर्थाचा कवेश्वर ।
तयासी माझा नमस्कार । साष्टांगभावें
dhanya vālmīka ṛṣeśvara | samarthācā kaveśvara |
tayāsī mājhā namaskāra | sāṣṭāmgabhāvem
Blessed is Vālmīki ṛṣīśvara — the kavi-lord of the Samartha; / to him my namaskāra — eight-limbed prostration.
वाल्मीक ऋषी बोलिला नसता । तरी आम्हांसी कैंची रामकथा ।
म्हणोनियां समर्था । काय म्हणोनी वर्णावें
vālmīka ṛṣī bolilā nasatā | tarī āmhāmsī kaimcī rāmakathā |
mhaṇoniyām samarthā | kāya mhaṇonī varṇāvem
If Vālmīki ṛṣi had not spoken — whence our Rāma-kathā? / Therefore the samartha — what to call him?
रघुनथकीर्ति प्रगट केली । तेणें तयची महिमा वाढली ।
भक्त मंडळी सुखी जाली । श्रवणमात्रें
raghunathakīrti pragaṭa kelī | teṇem tayacī mahimā vāḍhalī |
bhakta mamḍaḷī sukhī jālī | śravaṇamātrem
He made manifest Raghunātha's kīrti; thereby his mahimā grew; / the bhakta-maṇḍalī became happy — by mere hearing.
आपुला काळ सार्थक केला । रघुनाथकीर्तिमधें बुडाला ।
भूमंडळीं उधरिला । बहुत लोक
āpulā kāḷa sārthaka kelā | raghunāthakīrtimadhem buḍālā |
bhūmamḍaḷīm udharilā | bahuta loka
He made his time fulfilling; drowned in Raghunātha's kīrti; / on earth he uplifted — many people.
रघुनाथ भक्त थोर थोर । महिमा जयांचा अपार ।
त्या समस्तांचा किंकर । रामदास म्हणे
raghunātha bhakta thora thora | mahimā jayāmcā apāra |
tyā samastāmcā kimkara | rāmadāsa mhaṇe
Raghunātha-bhaktas great-and-great — whose mahimā is endless; / to all of them a servant — Rāmadāsa says.
