गगनीं अवघेंचि होत जातें । गगनाऐसें तगेना तें ।
निश्चळीं चंचळ नाना तें । येणेंचि न्यायें
gaganīm avaghemci hota jātem | gaganāaisem tagenā tem |
niścaḷīm camcaḷa nānā tem | yeṇemci nyāyem
In the sky everything happens-and-goes; nothing lasts like the sky. / In the niścala, cañcala — by the same logic.
अंधार दाटला बळें। वाटे गगन जालें काळें ।
रविकिर्णें तें पिवळें । सवेंचि वाटे
amdhāra dāṭalā baḷem | vāṭe gagana jālem kāḷem |
ravikirṇem tem pivaḷem | savemci vāṭe
Darkness packs forcibly; seems the sky became black; / by sun-rays it seems yellow — soon.
उदंड हिंव जेव्हां पडिले । गमे गगन थंड जालें।
उष्ण झळेनें वाळलें। ऐसें वाटे
udamḍa himva jevhām paḍile | game gagana thamḍa jālem |
uṣṇa jhaḷenem vāḷalem | aisem vāṭe
When abundant cold falls, seems the sky became cold; / dried by hot blazing — so it seems.
ऐसें जें कांहीं वाटलें । तें तें जालें आणि गेलें ।
आकाशासारिखें तगलें । हें तों घडेना
aisem jem kāmhīm vāṭalem | tem tem jālem āṇi gelem |
ākāśāsārikhem tagalem | hem tom ghaḍenā
Whatever seemed — happened and went. / Lasted like the sky — does not happen.
उत्तम जाणिवेचा जिनस । समजोन पाहे सावकास ।
निराभास तें आकाश । भास मिथ्या
uttama jāṇivecā jinasa | samajona pāhe sāvakāsa |
nirābhāsa tem ākāśa | bhāsa mithyā
The excellent-knowing kind — examine leisurely. / Nirābhāsa is ākāśa — appearance is mithyā.
उदक पसरे वायो पसरे । आत्मा अत्यंतचि पसरे ।
तत्वें तत्व अवघेंचि पसरे । अंतर्यामीं
udaka pasare vāyo pasare | ātmā atyamtaci pasare |
tatvem tatva avaghemci pasare | amtaryāmīm
Water spreads, wind spreads, Ātman extremely spreads; / tattva upon tattva all spreads — within.
चळतें आणि चळेना तें । अंतरीं अवघेंच कळतें ।
विवरणेंचि निवळतें । प्राणिमात्रासी
caḷatem āṇi caḷenā tem | amtarīm avaghemca kaḷatem |
vivaraṇemci nivaḷatem | prāṇimātrāsī
What moves and what moves not — all is known within; / by examination it clears — for every creature.
विवरतां विवरतां शेवटीं । निवृत्तिपदीं अखंड भेटी ।
जालियानें तुटी । होणार नाहीं
vivaratām vivaratām śevaṭīm | nivṛttipadīm akhamḍa bheṭī |
jāliyānem tuṭī | hoṇāra nāhīm
Examining-examining, at last — unbroken meeting at nivṛtti-pada; / on occurrence, break — does not happen.
जेथें ज्ञानाचें होतें विज्ञान । आणि मनाचें होतें उन्मन ।
तत्वनिर्शनीं अनन्य। विवेकें होतें
jethem jñānācem hotem vijñāna | āṇi manācem hotem unmana |
tatvanirśanīm ananya | vivekem hotem
Where jñāna becomes vijñāna; and mind becomes unmana; / in tattva-destruction, ananya — happens by vivek.
वडिलांस शोधून पाहिलें । तों चंचळाचें निश्चळ जालें ।
देवभक्तपण गेलें । तये ठाइं
vaḍilāmsa śodhūna pāhilem | tom camcaḷācem niścaḷa jālem |
devabhaktapaṇa gelem | taye ṭhāim
Examining the elder — the cañcala became niścala; / Deva-bhakta-hood went — in that place.
ठाव म्हणतां पदार्थ नाहीं। पदार्थमात्र मुळीं नाहीं ।
जैसें तैसें बोलों कांहीं । कळावया
ṭhāva mhaṇatām padārtha nāhīm | padārthamātra muḷīm nāhīm |
jaisem taisem bolom kāmhīm | kaḷāvayā
Saying 'locus' there is no object; no object at all at root; / we speak somehow — for the sake of knowing.
अज्ञानशक्ति निरसली। ज्ञानशक्ति मावळली ।
वृत्तिशून्यें कैसी जाली । स्थिती पाहा
ajñānaśakti nirasalī | jñānaśakti māvaḷalī |
vṛttiśūnyem kaisī jālī | sthitī pāhā
Ajñāna-śakti was dispelled; jñāna-śakti set; / by vṛtti-śūnya how became — see the state.
मुख्य शक्तिपात तो ऐसा । नाहीं चंचळाचा वळसा ।
निवांतीं निवांत कैसा । निर्विकारी
mukhya śaktipāta to aisā | nāhīm camcaḷācā vaḷasā |
nivāmtīm nivāmta kaisā | nirvikārī
Chief śakti-pāta is such; no whirl of cañcala; / calm within calm, how — nirvikārī.
चंचळाचीं विकार बालटें । तें चंचळचि जेथें आटे ।
चंचळ निश्चळ घनवटे । हें तों घडेना
camcaḷācīm vikāra bālaṭem | tem camcaḷaci jethem āṭe |
camcaḷa niścaḷa ghanavaṭe | hem tom ghaḍenā
The vikāras of cañcala go awry; cañcala itself where it dries up; / cañcala becoming niścala dense — does not happen.
माहावाक्याचा विचारु । तेथें संन्याशास अधिकारु।
दैवीकृपेची जो नरु । तोहि विवरोन पाहे
māhāvākyācā vicāru | tethem samnyāśāsa adhikāru |
daivīkṛpecī jo naru | tohi vivarona pāhe
Consideration of the Mahāvākya — there the samnyāsī has adhikāra; / the man of divine grace — he too examines-and-sees.
संन्यासी म्हणिजे शडन्यासी । विचारवंत सर्व संन्यासी ।
आपली करणी आपणासी । निश्चयेंसीं
samnyāsī mhaṇije śaḍanyāsī | vicāravamta sarva samnyāsī |
āpalī karaṇī āpaṇāsī | niścayemsīm
Samnyāsī means ṣaḍ-nyāsī (six-renouncer); the vicāra-vant is all-samnyāsī; / one's own doing to oneself — with certainty.
जगदीश वोळल्यावरी । तेथें कोण अनुमान करी ।
आतां असो हें विचारी। विचर जाणती
jagadīśa voḷalyāvarī | tethem koṇa anumāna karī |
ātām aso hem vicārī | vicara jāṇatī
When jagadīśa is inclined — there who makes inference? / So let it be — the vicāra-wants know.
जे जे विचारी समजले । ते ते निःसंग होऊन गेले ।
देहाभिमानी जे उरले। ते देहाभिमान रक्षिती
je je vicārī samajale | te te niḥsamga hoūna gele |
dehābhimānī je urale | te dehābhimāna rakṣitī
Those who are vicāra-wants understood — they went niḥsanga; / those who remained deha-abhimāni — protect body-pride.
लक्षीं बैसले अलक्ष । उडोन गेला पूर्वपक्ष ।
हेतुरूपें अंतरसाक्ष । तोहि मावळला
lakṣīm baisale alakṣa | uḍona gelā pūrvapakṣa |
heturūpem amtarasākṣa | tohi māvaḷalā
In the lakṣya the alakṣya sat; the pūrva-pakṣa flew off; / hetu-form antara-sākṣī — he too set.
आकाश आणि पाताळ । दोनी नामें अंतराळ ।
काढितां दृश्याचें चडळ । अखंड जालें
ākāśa āṇi pātāḷa | donī nāmem amtarāḷa |
kāḍhitām dṛśyācem caḍaḷa | akhamḍa jālem
Sky and pātāla — two names, firmament; / on removing dṛśya, the restlessness — became unbroken.
तें तों अखंडचि आहे । मन उपाधी लक्षून पाहे।
उपाधिनिरासें साहे । शब्द कैसा
tem tom akhamḍaci āhe | mana upādhī lakṣūna pāhe |
upādhinirāsem sāhe | śabda kaisā
That itself is unbroken; mind targets upādhi and sees; / by upādhi-nirāsa, what endures — the word, how?
शब्दपर कल्पनेपर । मन बुद्धि अगोचर ।
विचारें पाहावा विचार। अंतर्यामीं
śabdapara kalpanepara | mana buddhi agocara |
vicārem pāhāvā vicāra | amtaryāmīm
Beyond words, beyond kalpanā; manas-buddhi inaccessible; / by vicāra see vicāra — within.
पाहातां पाहातां कळों येतें । कळलें तितुकें वेर्थ जातें ।
अवघड कैसें बोलावें तें । कोण्या प्रकारें
pāhātām pāhātām kaḷom yetem | kaḷalem titukem vertha jātem |
avaghaḍa kaisem bolāvem tem | koṇyā prakārem
Seeing, seeing, it is known; what is known goes in vain. / How can the difficult be told — in what manner?
वाक्यार्थवाच्यांश शोधिला। अलक्षीं लक्ष्यांश बुडाला ।
पुढें समजोन बोला । कोणीतरी
vākyārthavācyāmśa śodhilā | alakṣīm lakṣyāmśa buḍālā |
puḍhem samajona bolā | koṇītarī
Vākya-artha, vācyāmśa was searched; in the alakṣya, lakṣyāmśa sank; / ahead, understanding, should speak — someone.
शाश्वतास शोधीत गेला । तेणें ज्ञानी साच जाला ।
विकार सांडून मिळाला । निर्विकारीं
śāśvatāsa śodhīta gelā | teṇem jñānī sāca jālā |
vikāra sāmḍūna miḷālā | nirvikārīm
He who went searching the eternal — became a jñānī of truth. / Abandoning vikāra, joined — in the nirvikārī.
दुःस्वप्न उदंड देखिलें । जागें होतां लटिकें जालें ।
पुन्हां जरी आठवलें । तरी तें मिथ्या
duḥsvapna udamḍa dekhilem | jāgem hotām laṭikem jālem |
punhām jarī āṭhavalem | tarī tem mithyā
Saw an abundance of bad-dreams; on waking became false. / Again if remembered — it is mithyā.
प्रारब्धयोगें देह असे । असे अथवा नासे ।
विचार अंतरीं बैसे । चळेना ऐसा
prārabdhayogem deha ase | ase athavā nāse |
vicāra amtarīm baise | caḷenā aisā
By prārabdha-yoga, body exists; exists or perishes; / consideration sits within — unshaken like this.
बीज अग्नीनें भाजलें । त्याचें वाढणें खुंटलें ।
ज्ञात्यास तैसे जालें । वासनाबीज
bīja agnīnem bhājalem | tyācem vāḍhaṇem khumṭalem |
jñātyāsa taise jālem | vāsanābīja
A roasted seed — its growing stopped. / To the jñātā so — the vāsanā-seed.
विचारें निश्चळ जाली बुद्धि । बुद्धिपासीं कार्यसिद्धि ।
पाहातां वडिलांची बुद्धि । निश्चळीं गेलीं
vicārem niścaḷa jālī buddhi | buddhipāsīm kāryasiddhi |
pāhātām vaḍilāmcī buddhi | niścaḷīm gelīm
By vicāra, the buddhi became niścala; with buddhi, task-success; / on examining, the elder's buddhi — went into niścala.
निश्चळास ध्यातो तो निश्चळ । चंचळास ध्यातो तो चंचळ ।
भूतास ध्यातो तो केवळ । भूत होये
niścaḷāsa dhyāto to niścaḷa | camcaḷāsa dhyāto to camcaḷa |
bhūtāsa dhyāto to kevaḷa | bhūta hoye
He who contemplates niścala, becomes niścala; who contemplates cañcala, becomes cañcala; / who contemplates bhūta — purely becomes bhūta.
जो पावला सेवटवरी । तयास हें कांहींच न करी ।
अंतरिनिष्ठा बाजीगरी । तैसी माया
jo pāvalā sevaṭavarī | tayāsa hem kāmhīmca na karī |
amtariniṣṭhā bājīgarī | taisī māyā
He who has reached to the end — nothing does this to him; / antara-niṣṭhā juggling — such is māyā.
मिथ्या ऐसें कळों आलें । विचारानें सदृढ जालें ।
अवघें भयेंचि उडालें । अकस्मात
mithyā aisem kaḷom ālem | vicārānem sadṛḍha jālem |
avaghem bhayemci uḍālem | akasmāta
'It is mithyā' — such came to be known; by vicāra it became firm; / all fear flew off — suddenly.
उपासनेचें उत्तिर्ण व्हावें । भक्तजनें वाढवावें ।
अंतरीं विवेकें उमजावें । सकळ कांहीं
upāsanecem uttirṇa vhāvem | bhaktajanem vāḍhavāvem |
amtarīm vivekem umajāvem | sakaḷa kāmhīm
Upāsanā should grow; bhakta-people should grow; / within, by vivek, should understand — everything.
