Abhanga 2388

Your troubles come from your own past actions, not from others, so stay calm, keep saying Gōvinda's name, and hand the burden to Nārāyaṇa, who will then protect you.

When you face hardship and feel the urge to blame someone else for causing it.
When grief keeps building up and you cannot find any peace of mind.
When you finally give up your burden and trust that God will carry it for you.

The verse

Literal translation

Bhōga doesn't come without sanchita — make samādhāna in the mind. Don't take grief — say Gōvinda time and again. No need to be angry at others — only one's own sanchita. Tuka says: when burden is placed above (on the Lord) — Nārāyaṇa becomes the protector.

What it means

KARMA-EQUANIMITY + PLACE-BURDEN-ON-NĀRĀYAṆA ABHANG. Continues 2387's āliyā bhōgāsī asāvē sādara equanimity-theme.

The sanchita-source: bhōga tō na ghaḍē sanchitāvāñchūni — karāvē tē manīm samādhānabhōga doesn't come without sanchita — make samādhāna in the mind. Sanchita = accumulated-past-karma. Bhōga (experience, suffering) doesn't-come without-sanchita; make-samādhāna in-the-mind.

The don't-blame-others: āṇikām rusāvē na lagē bahutām — āpulyā sanchitāvāñchūniyāmno need to be angry at others — only one's own sanchita. No-need-to-blame-others; only-your-own-sanchita causes-your-bhōga.

THE CLOSING: Tukā mhaṇē bhāra ghātaliyā varī — hō'īmla kaivārī Nārāyaṇawhen burden placed above — Nārāyaṇa becomes the protector. When-the-burden is-placed-above (on-the-Lord), Nārāyaṇa becomes-the-protector (kaivārī). The two-part-bhakta-strategy: (1) accept-sanchita-as-cause, (2) surrender-burden-to-Nārāyaṇa.

For someone today

For today: bhōga from one's own sanchita; don't grieve, say Gōvinda; don't blame others; place burden above — Nārāyaṇa becomes the protector .
