Kāyā-vāchā-manē jālā Viṣṇu-dāsa — body-voice-mind has become Viṣṇu-dāsa; kāma-krōdha tyāsa bādhīta nā — kāma-krodha do not bind him.
The verse
कायावाचामनें जाला विष्णुदास । काम क्रोध त्यास बाधीतना ॥१॥
विश्वास तो करी स्वामीवरी सत्ता । सकळ भोगिता होय त्याचें ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे चत्ति करावें निर्मळ । येऊनि गोपाळ राहे तेथें ॥३॥
Literal translation
Kāyā-vāchā-manē jālā Viṣṇu-dāsa — body-voice-mind has become Viṣṇu-dāsa; kāma-krōdha tyāsa bādhīta nā — kāma-krodha do not bind him. Viśvāsa tō karī svāmīvarī sattā — he who places viśvāsa (trust) on the master's sattā (authority); sakaḷa bhōgitā hōya tyāñce — becomes the enjoyer of all that is his. Tukā says: chitta karāve nirmaḷa — make the chitta nirmaḷa (pure); yēūni Gōpāḷa rāhe tēthē — Gōpāḷa comes and stays there.
What it means
A clean canonical-statement verse. Kāyā-vāchā-manē jālā Viṣṇu-dāsa — kāma-krōdha tyāsa bādhīta nā — body-voice-mind has become Viṣṇu-dāsa — kāma-krodha do not bind him. The three-fold surrender (body-voice-mind) makes one Viṣṇu-dāsa; once this surrender is real, kāma-krodha lose their binding-power. Not by struggle-against-them, but by surrender-elsewhere.
The dhrūpada: viśvāsa tō karī svāmīvarī sattā — sakaḷa bhōgitā hōya tyāñce — one who places trust on the master's authority — becomes the enjoyer of all that is his. The mechanism: viśvāsa-on-the-master's-sattā (trust on the master's authority) — produces bhōgitā (enjoyer-position) over all that is his (the master's). The trusting-bhakta inherits the master's-domain.
The close: chitta karāve nirmaḷa — yēūni Gōpāḷa rāhe tēthē — make the chitta pure — Gōpāḷa comes and stays there. Nirmaḷa-chitta (pure-chitta) is the precondition; Gōpāḷa-rāhe-tēthē (Gōpāḷa stays there) is the consequence. The verb rāhe (stays, dwells) is not a visit — it is residence.
