Literal translation
Patra uchaṭile pretne — the patra (letter, deed) was uchaṭilē (opened, broken-seal) by pretna (effort); gvāhī karāyā kāraṇe — for the purpose of making (a) gvāhī (witness); nāhī-tarī puṇye — tujhyā kāya uṇe āmhām — otherwise — by your puṇya — what is uṇe (lacking) for us. Nāva tujhe chi karōnī — āhōm sukhe pōṭa bharōnī — using your nāva (name), we are happily filling (our) belly; kelī jāṇavaṇī — mhaṇauni nāhī mhaṇasīla — (we) made the jāṇavaṇī (notification) — so (you) won't say nāhī (no). Ātām itakiyā-uparī — de nakō bhalate karī — now above this — give — don't make bhalate (something-else); mhaṇatī rṇa-karī — āmuchā itake udaṇḍa — (people) call (us) your rṇa-karī (creditors) — and that is already udaṇḍa (much). Tukayā-bandhu jāgā — Tukārām's-brother wakes/keeps-awake; aḷavāvayā Pāṇḍurangā — to call out (to) Pāṇḍurangā; kelā kāmhī māgāyāñcī — navhatī garaja — there was no garaja (need) of asking.
What it means
A 3-verse legal-document image verse by Tukyā-bandhu. NON-Tukārām.
The brother frames-the-dispute legally: the patra (deed, written-document) was opened for-the-purpose-of-providing-witness; we don't lack anything by your puṇya; using your name, we fill our belly happily; we've-made-the-notification so you-can't-claim ignorance. The bhakta-claims rṇa-karī (creditor) status — people-already-call-us your-creditors. The closing-claim: no-need-of-asking-for-anything — the bhakta has-the-Lord's-friendship and-asking-formally is-unnecessary.
For someone today
Kānhōbā's legal-document image. The deed was opened by (my) effort — for the purpose of making (a) witness. Otherwise — by your puṇya — what is lacking for us? Using your name, we are happily filling (our) belly. (We) made the notification — so (you) won't say no. Now above this — give — don't make something-else; (people) call (us) your creditors — and that is already much. (I) wake — to call Pāṇḍurangā — there was no need of asking. The verse permits the bhakta-as-creditor-with-deed posture.
