Abhanga 3058

Tukārām's daily-petition. May bad-intelligence never arise in the mind, Nārāyaṇa. Now make it so — let me grasp your feet in my chitta. The bhāva that has arisen — by your krpā, let it attain siddhi. There is no gain beyond this. The verse permits the distilled-daily-petition: no-bad-mind, feet-in-chitta, krpā-for-bhāva, no-other-gain.

Tukārām's daily-petition — no-durbuddhi, feet-in-chitta, krpā-for-siddhi

The verse

Literal translation

Durbuddhi te manādurbuddhi to the mind; kadā nupajō Nārāyaṇānever let it arise, Nārāyaṇa. Ātām aise karīmnow make it so; tujhe pāya chittīm dharīmI grasp your feet in (the) chitta. Upajalā bhāvathe bhāva that has arisen; tumache krpe siddhī jāvōby your krpā, let it attain siddhi. Tukā mhaṇe ātāmTukā says: now; lābha nāhī yā paratāthere is no lābha beyond this.

What it means

A short 3-verse daily-petition by Tukārām.

The petition: (1) no-durbuddhi in-mind; (2) feet-in-chitta; (3) bhāva-arising-attain-siddhi by-krpā; (4) no-lābha-beyond-this.

The compactness is itself the meaning — the petition is just-this-much. Don't-let-bad-mind, place-feet-in-mine, complete-the-bhāva — no-other-gain. This is bhakti-prayer in-its-most-distilled-form.
