Abhanga 3547
Eka ātām tumhī karā — one thing now you must do; maja dātārā sattenē — for me, Dātāra, by (your) sattā.
The verse
एक आतां तुम्ही करा । मज दातारा सत्तेनें ॥१॥
विश्वास तो पायांवरी । ठेवुनि हरी राहिलों ॥ध्रु.॥
जाणत चि दुजें नाहीं । आणिक कांहीं प्रकार ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे शरण आलों । काय बोलों विनवितों ॥३॥
Literal translation
Eka ātām tumhī karā — one thing now you must do; maja dātārā sattenē — for me, Dātāra, by (your) sattā. Viśvāsa tō pāyāmvarī — trust placed on (your) pāya; ṭhevuni Harī rāhilōm — having placed, Hari, I remain. Jāṇata chi duje nāhī — I don't know any other; āṇika kāmhī prakāra — (any) other prakāra. Tukā mhaṇe śaraṇa ālōm — Tukā says: I have come (as) śaraṇa; kāya bōlōm vinavitōm — what can I say in vinatī.
What it means
A short 3-verse distilled-śaraṇāgati by Tukārām. The prayer: One-thing now-you-must-do, Dātāra, by-your-sattā. Trust-placed-on-your-pāya, Hari, I-remain. I-don't-know-any-other-prakāra. I-have-come-(as)-śaraṇa — what-(more) can-I-say-in-vinatī (petitioning)?
★ The closing-question is striking: kāya bōlōm vinavitōm — what-can-I-(further)-say-in-petitioning? — the bhakta-has-no-further-words; the simple-coming-as-śaraṇa is-the-whole-petition.
For someone today
Tukārām's distilled-śaraṇāgati. One thing — now — you must do, Giver — by your authority. Trust — I have placed on (your) feet, Hari — and I remain. I do not know any other mode. I have come (as) śaraṇa — what can I say in petitioning? The verse permits the canonical-bhakti-śaraṇāgati: only-coming-as-śaraṇa is the-whole-petition.
