Abhanga 4416
When you feel you have nowhere else to turn, the simplest and most honest prayer is just to ask to see God's presence with your own eyes, without delay.
The verse
ये गा महाविष्णु अनंतभुजाच्या । आम्हां अनाथांच्या माहेरा ये ॥१॥
भेटावया तुज ओढे माझा जीव । एकवेळा पाय दावीं डोळां ॥ध्रु.॥
आणीक हे आर्त नाहीं नारायणा । ओढे हे वासना भेटावया ॥२॥
वाटे चित्ती काय करावा विचार । चरण सुंदर पहावया ॥३॥
तुका म्हणे माझे पुरवीं मनोरथ । येईं गा न संवरीत पांडुरंगा ॥४॥
Literal translation
Come, Mahā-Viṣṇu of ananta-bhuja, to our anāthāñce māhera. My jīva pulled to meet — show feet once in eyes. No other ārta, Nārāyaṇa — only this vāsanā to meet. What vichāra in chitti — to behold sundara charaṇa. Tukā: fulfill my manōratha — come without delay, Pāṇḍurangā.
What it means
A yearning-petition. The anāthāñce-māhera (orphan's-mother's-house) image is striking — we are the orphan-bhaktas, and your-coming is to-mother's-house.
For someone today
Tukaram calls out to the great, many-armed Vishnu to come to what he calls the orphan's mother's home, the place where those without any other refuge gather. His whole being pulls toward that meeting, and all he wants is to see God's beautiful feet with his own eyes just once. He insists there is no other longing in him, no complicated request, only this single desire to meet, and he begs God to come without delay and fulfill that one wish.
मराठी: तुकाराम अनंतभुज महाविष्णूला हाक मारतात, आम्हा अनाथांच्या माहेरी ये असे म्हणतात, जिथे कुणालाच दुसरा आधार नाही अशा सर्वांचे आश्रयस्थान आहे. त्यांचा संपूर्ण जीव त्या भेटीसाठी ओढला जातो, आणि त्यांना फक्त एकदा तरी देवाचे सुंदर चरण डोळ्यांनी पाहायचे आहेत. ते सांगतात की माझ्या मनात दुसरी कोणतीही इच्छा नाही, कोणतीही गुंतागुंतीची मागणी नाही, फक्त हीच एक भेटीची आस आहे, आणि ते विनवतात की पांडुरंगाने विलंब न करता येऊन ही एकच इच्छा पूर्ण करावी.
