Dashak 2 · Samāsa 9

43 ovis

aikā viraktāmcī lakṣaṇem | viraktem asāvem koṇyā guṇem | jeṇem āmgīm sāmarthya bāṇem | yogiyācem
Hear the signs of the dispassionate (virakta): by what qualities should the dispassionate one be — by which the capacity of the yogi may become ingrained in him?
Rāmdās opens the samāsa on the virakta (the dispassionate one, one who has renounced attachment) by asking what qualities such a person should actually have — not renunciation as bare withdrawal, but as the specific capacity that lets a yogi's power become truly ingrained in him.
Before assuming detachment means simply giving things up, ask what inner capacities that detachment is supposed to build in you — treat it as training, not subtraction.
jeṇem satkīrti vāḍhe | jeṇem sārthakatā ghaḍe | jeṇemkaritām mahimā caḍhe | viraktāmsī
By which good-fame (sat-kīrti) increases; by which fulfillment (sārthakatā) occurs; by which greatness ascends to the dispassionate.
Rāmdās gives the payoff before the method: these coming qualities are what cause good fame (sat-kīrti) to grow, fulfillment (sārthakatā) to occur, and genuine greatness to ascend for the dispassionate person — renunciation done rightly is not obscurity but a kind of stature.
Do not treat withdrawal from worldly pursuits as automatically making you invisible or insignificant; done with real substance, it earns its own kind of respect over time.
jeṇem paramārtha phāve | jeṇem ānamda helāve | jeṇem virakti duṇāve | vivekemsahita
By which paramārtha is obtained; by which bliss wells up; by which dispassion is doubled, with discernment.
Continuing to state the stakes before the list of qualities (which begins at 2.9.007): by these qualities paramārtha (the highest good) is obtained, bliss wells up, and dispassion itself doubles — but only when joined with discernment (viveka), not blind renunciation.
Pair any act of letting go with active reflection on why you are doing it; renunciation without discernment, Rāmdās implies, does not actually deepen.
jeṇem sukha ucambaḷe | jeṇem sadvidyā voḷe | jeṇem bhāgyaśrī prabaḷe | mokṣemsahita
By which joy swells; by which sad-vidyā comes; by which the fortune-glory (bhāgya-śrī) strengthens, along with mokṣa.
The promised fruits continue: joy swells, true knowledge (sad-vidyā) comes naturally, and fortune and glory strengthen — alongside liberation (mokṣa) itself, not opposed to it. Rāmdās is countering the idea that dispassion means a joyless, impoverished life.
If your practice of restraint feels only grim and joyless, treat that as a sign something is off — genuine dispassion, per this verse, brings joy alongside it, not instead of it.
manoratha pūrṇa hotī | sakaḷa kāmanā puratī | mukhīm rāhe sarasvatī | madhura bolāvayā
Desires (manoratha) are fulfilled; all longings (kāmanā) met; Sarasvatī dwells on the mouth to speak sweetly.
As the closing note of this opening praise-section: desires are fulfilled, all longings met, and eloquence (Sarasvatī, goddess of speech) settles on the mouth to speak sweetly — the virakta gains real fluency and effectiveness in the world, not just inner peace.
Notice that real inner settledness tends to improve how well you communicate — if your speech is scattered or harsh, that may point back to unsettled inner longing.
he lakṣaṇem śravaṇa kīje | āṇī sadṛḍha jīvīm dharije | tarī maga vikhyāta hoīje | bhūmamḍaḷīm
These signs, hear them; hold them firmly in the life; then one becomes renowned in the world.
Rāmdās closes the introduction with an instruction on method: hear these signs and hold them firmly in one's actual life (sadṛḍha jīvīm) — only then, not from mere hearing, does one become renowned. The catalogue of specific traits begins in the next verse.
Do not stop at agreeing with good advice; the verse insists on holding it firmly in practice before any real change follows.
viraktem vivekem asāvem | viraktem adhyātma vāḍhavāvem | viraktem dhāriṣṭa dharāvem | damanaviṣaīm
The virakta should be with discernment (viveka); should cultivate spiritual-knowledge (adhyātma); should hold steadfastness (dhāriṣṭa) in self-restraint (damana).
The trait-catalogue opens: the virakta should live with discernment (viveka), should actively cultivate spiritual knowledge (adhyātma) rather than let renunciation alone suffice, and should hold firm steadfastness specifically in self-restraint (damana).
Treat discernment, study, and restraint as three separate disciplines to maintain together — none substitutes for the others.
viraktem rākhāvem sādhana | viraktem lāvāvem bhajana | viraktem viśeṣa brahmajñāna | pragaṭavāvem
The virakta should preserve practice (sādhana); should engage in bhajana; should manifest special knowledge of Brahman.
The virakta should preserve ongoing practice (sādhana, not letting it lapse once dispassion is claimed), should engage in devotional worship (bhajana), and should actively manifest and articulate deep knowledge of Brahman rather than keep it private.
If you have gained some understanding, find a way to express or share it rather than keeping it as a purely private possession.
viraktem bhaktī vāḍhavāvī | virakte śāmtī dākhavāvī | viraktem yetnem karāvī | viraktī āpulī
The virakta should increase devotion; should show peace (śānti); should with effort [earn] his own dispassion (virakti).
The virakta should keep increasing devotion (not treat it as complete), should visibly show peace (śānti) to others, and should work with genuine effort to earn his own dispassion — reinforcing that virakti is not a static state but something continually re-earned.
Re-examine your own claimed detachment periodically as work still in progress, not a badge already secured.
viraktem sadkriyā pratiṣṭhāvī | viraktem nivṛtti vistārāvī | viraktem nairāśatā dharāvī | sadṛḍha jivemsīm
The virakta should establish right action (sat-kriyā); should expand non-engagement (nivṛtti); should hold non-expectation (nairāśya) firmly in life.
The virakta should establish right action (sat-kriyā) in his life, should expand non-engagement with worldly entanglement (nivṛtti), and should hold non-expectation (nairāśya) firmly — action, withdrawal, and expectation-free living are named as three distinct, ongoing tasks.
Practice doing something genuinely good today while expecting nothing back for it — that combination, not withdrawal alone, is what is being asked.
viraktem dharmasthāpanā karāvī | viraktem nīti āvalambāvī | viraktem kṣmā sāmbhāḷāvī | atyādaremsī
The virakta should establish dharma; should follow ethics; should maintain forgiveness — with utmost regard.
The virakta should actively establish dharma in the world, follow ethical conduct (nīti), and maintain forgiveness with the utmost regard — dispassion is directed outward into moral responsibility, not just inward retreat.
Use whatever standing you have to actively support what is right in your circle, and extend real forgiveness rather than cold indifference toward others' faults.
viraktem paramārtha ujaḷāvā | viraktem vicāra śodhāvā | viraktem sannidha ṭhevāvā | sanmārga satvaguṇa
The virakta should illuminate paramārtha; should investigate reasoning; should keep near the good path and sattva-guṇa.
The virakta should illuminate (make clear to others) the highest good, should keep investigating reasoning rather than settle into fixed views, and should keep himself close to the good path and to sattva-guṇa (the quality of clarity and balance).
Keep questioning and refining your own understanding rather than treating your current views as finished, and deliberately keep company and habits that reinforce clarity over agitation.
viraktem bhāvikem sāmbhāḷāvīm | viraktem premaḷem nivavāvīm | viraktem sābaḍīm nupekṣāvīm | śaraṇāgatem
The virakta should cherish the devoted; should comfort the loving; should not neglect the simple — those who take refuge (śaraṇāgata).
The virakta should cherish the devoted, comfort those who are loving, and never neglect the simple, guileless people (sābaḍīm) who come seeking refuge — dispassion toward the world does not mean coldness toward those who genuinely seek help.
Make time specifically for the person who is simple or unsophisticated but sincerely reaching out to you; do not let them be the one you deprioritize.
viraktem asāvem parama dakṣa | viraktem asāvem amtarasākṣa | viraktem voḍhāvā kaipakṣa | paramārthācā
The virakta should be supremely alert; should be an inner-witness (antara-sākṣa); should uphold the cause (kai-pakṣa) of paramārtha.
The virakta should be supremely alert (dakṣa), should be an inner witness to his own mind (antara-sākṣa), and should actively uphold the cause of the highest good rather than remain a passive bystander to it.
Practice watching your own reactions as if from slightly outside them today — that inner witnessing is the specific skill named here.
viraktem abhyāsa karāvā | viraktem sākṣepa dharāvā | viraktem vagtrṛtvem ubhārāvā | moḍalā paramārtha
The virakta should practice; should be earnestly attentive; should lift up — by eloquence — a broken paramārtha.
The virakta should practice (abhyāsa) consistently, should be earnestly attentive (sākṣepa), and should be willing to use his own eloquence to lift up and revive a paramārtha that has fallen into disrepair — active repair work, not passive observance.
If you see a good cause, tradition, or relationship that has fallen into neglect, use your own words and effort to actively revive it rather than assuming someone else will.
viraktem vimaḷajñāna bolāvem | viraktem vairāgya stavīta jāvem | viraktem niścayācem karāvem | samādhāna
The virakta should speak pure knowledge; should praise dispassion; should resolve things into composure (samādhāna).
The virakta should speak pure, unclouded knowledge, should keep praising and extolling dispassion (encouraging others toward it), and should work to resolve doubts and disturbances into settled composure (samādhāna) — for himself and, implicitly, for others.
When you speak about your values, speak in a way that settles and steadies the listener rather than stirring anxiety or confusion.
parvem karāvīm acāṭem | cālavāvī bhaktāmcī thāṭe | nānā vaibhavem kacāṭem | upāsanāmārga
Should carry out great festivals (parva); conduct the fold of devotees; by many splendors, lead the way of worship.
Rāmdās shifts to communal, outward duties: the virakta should organize great festivals, lead and sustain the fold of devotees (bhaktāmcī thāṭe), and use various forms of splendor to advance the path of worship — leadership, not solitary withdrawal.
If you are capable of it, take on the practical, organizational work of building community around shared values, not just your own private practice.
harikīrtanem karāvīm | nirūpaṇem mājavāvīm | bhaktimārge lājavāvīm | nimdaka durjanem
Should perform Hari-kīrtanas; stimulate expositions; bring shame upon slanderers and the evil-doers through the path of devotion.
The virakta should perform Hari-kīrtana (devotional singing/recitation), stimulate expositions of teaching, and — through the strength of the devotional path itself — put slanderers and evil-doers to shame, meaning the positive practice itself is the best refutation of critics.
Respond to criticism or cynicism about your values not by arguing back but by practicing them so visibly and well that the criticism loses its force.
bahutāmsa karāve paropakāra | bhalepaṇācā jīrṇoddhāra | puṇyamārgācā vistāra | baḷemci karāvā
Should perform many benefactions; should forcefully restore goodness (bhalepaṇā jīrṇoddhāra) and spread the way of merit (puṇya-mārga).
The virakta should perform many acts of benefaction, should forcefully (baḷemci, with real effort) restore goodness where it has decayed, and should actively spread the way of merit (puṇya-mārga) — again stressing effortful, deliberate action over passive goodness.
Pick one place where good practice or community has decayed around you and put deliberate effort into restoring it, rather than waiting for it to revive on its own.
snāna samdhyā japa dhyāna | tīrthayātrā bhagavadbhajana | nityanema pavitrapaṇa | amtaraśuddha asāvem
Bath, sandhyā, japa, dhyāna; tīrtha-yātrā, Bhagavad-bhajana; daily observance, purity; should be inwardly clean.
A cluster of concrete daily disciplines: ritual bath, sandhyā, japa, meditation; pilgrimage and worship of God; daily observance and purity — all of it, Rāmdās insists, must be matched by inward cleanliness (antaraśuddha), not performed as empty form.
Whatever daily practice you keep, check that it is producing actual inner clarity, not just being completed as a routine box to tick.
dṛḍha niścayo dharāvā | samsāra sukhācā karāvā | viśvajana uddharāvā | samsargamātrem
Should hold firm resolution; should make samsāra a place of happiness (samsāra sukhācā karāvā); should uplift the world's people — by mere contact (samsarga-mātra).
The virakta should hold firm resolution, should actively make saṃsāra (worldly life) a place of happiness rather than treating it as mere suffering to escape, and should uplift the world's people simply through contact with him (saṃsarga-mātra) — his presence itself doing good.
Treat ordinary life and the people in it as something to actively improve and find joy in, not just a burden to endure on the way to something else.
viraktem asāvem dhīra | viraktem asāvem udāra | viraktem asāvem tatpara | nirūpaṇaviṣaīm
The virakta should be steady (dhīra); should be generous; should be intent on exposition.
The virakta should be steady (dhīra), should be generous, and should be genuinely intent on teaching and exposition (nirūpaṇa) — three qualities of character and engagement rather than withdrawal.
Practice steadiness under pressure today, and be willing to explain and teach what you know rather than keeping it to yourself.
viraktem sāvadha asāvem | viraktem śuddha mārgem jāvem | viraktem jhijona uravāvem | sadkīrtīsī
The virakta should be watchful; should take the pure path; should, wearing down [the body], leave behind good-fame (sat-kīrti).
The virakta should be watchful (sāvadha), should walk the pure path, and should be willing to wear down the body itself (jhijona) in leaving behind good repute — a striking image of expending oneself for the sake of a legacy of integrity rather than comfort.
Be willing to expend real personal effort — time, comfort, even health — for the sake of leaving behind something genuinely good, rather than optimizing for ease.
viraktem virakta dhumḍāve | viraktem sādhu voḷakhāve | viraktem mitra karāve | samta yogī sajjana
The virakta should seek the dispassionate; should recognize sādhus; should make friends — saints, yogis, the noble.
The virakta should actively seek out other dispassionate people, should learn to recognize genuine sādhus, and should deliberately make friends among saints, yogis, and the noble — good company is treated as something to be sought, not stumbled upon.
Actively seek out and cultivate friendships with people whose character you respect, rather than letting your circle form by accident of proximity.
viraktem karāvīm puraścaraṇem | viraktem phirāvīm tīrthāṭaṇem | viraktem karāvīm nānāsthānem | parama ramaṇīya
The virakta should perform puraścaraṇas; should travel pilgrimages (tīrthāṭaṇa); should go to many places supremely delightful.
The virakta should perform sustained mantra-repetitions (puraścaraṇa), should travel on pilgrimage, and should visit many places described as supremely delightful (parama ramaṇīya) — devotional discipline paired here with genuine enjoyment of the journey.
Let your spiritual or reflective practice include real delight and change of scenery occasionally, not only grinding routine in one place.
viraktem upādhī karāvī | āṇi udāsavṛtti na samḍāvī | durāśā jaḍo nedāvī | koṇayekaviṣaīm
The virakta should do upādhi (organized work) yet not abandon the indifferent disposition (udāsa-vṛtti); should not let false-hope (durāśā) attach to any object.
The virakta should take up organized work and responsibility (upādhi) yet not abandon his underlying indifferent disposition (udāsa-vṛtti) toward outcomes, and should not let false hope (durāśā) attach itself to any particular object or result.
Take on real responsibilities and work in the world, but hold the outcomes lightly — do the work without letting your hopes fixate on any specific result.
viraktem asāvem amtaraniṣṭha | viraktem nasāvem kriyābhraṣṭa | viraktem na vhāvem kaniṣṭha | parādhenapaṇem
The virakta should be inward-fixed (antara-niṣṭha); should not be fallen in action (kriyā-bhraṣṭa); should not become low by dependency on another (parādhīna-paṇā).
The virakta should be inwardly fixed and grounded (antara-niṣṭha), should not become 'fallen in action' (kriyā-bhraṣṭa, i.e., lapse in conduct), and should not become low or servile through dependency on another (parādhīna-paṇā).
Guard your independence of conduct — do not let dependency on someone else's approval or support pull you into compromised behavior.
viraktem samaya jāṇāvā | viraktem prasamga voḷakhāvā | virakta catura asāavā | sarvaprakārem
The virakta should know the right moment; recognize the occasion; be clever in every way.
The virakta should know the right moment (samaya) for action, should recognize the nature of the occasion (prasaṃga), and should be clever or resourceful in every way — practical, situational wisdom as part of dispassion, not opposed to worldly savvy.
Before acting, take a moment to actually read the situation and its timing rather than applying the same response regardless of context.
viraktem yekadesī nasāvem | viraktem sarva abhyāsāvem | viraktem avaghem jāṇāvem | jyācem tyāparī
The virakta should not be one-sided; should study all; should know each thing according to its kind.
The virakta should not be one-sided or narrow (yekadesī), should study everything broadly, and should understand each thing according to its own particular nature (jyācem tyāparī) — a call to breadth rather than a narrow specialization even in spiritual matters.
Resist becoming narrow in your interests or reading even within your own area of practice; deliberately study things outside your usual focus.
harikathā nirūpaṇa | saguṇabhajana brahmajñāna | pimḍajñāna tatvajñāna | sarva jāṇāvem
Hari-kathā, exposition; saguṇa-bhajana, Brahma-knowledge; body-knowledge (piṇḍa-jñāna), tattva-knowledge — all should be known.
The breadth demanded in 2.9.029 is spelled out: the virakta should know Hari-kathā and exposition, worship-with-form (saguṇa-bhajana) and knowledge of Brahman, and both bodily/personal knowledge (piṇḍa-jñāna) and fundamental philosophical knowledge (tattva-jñāna) — all of it, not a chosen subset.
Do not let a preference for one style of practice — devotional or philosophical — become an excuse to ignore the other; aim for real competence in both.
karmamārga upāsanāmārga | jñānamārga siddhāmtamārga | pravṛttimārga nivṛttimārga | sakaḷa jāṇāvem
Karma-mārga, upāsanā-mārga; jñāna-mārga, siddhānta-mārga; pravṛtti-mārga, nivṛtti-mārga — all should be known.
The list of required knowledge continues: the paths of ritual action, worship, knowledge, and settled doctrine (siddhānta), as well as the paths of worldly engagement (pravṛtti) and renunciation (nivṛtti) — all should be understood, again emphasizing comprehensiveness over factional loyalty to one path.
Learn enough about approaches to life and practice that differ from your own that you can genuinely understand them, rather than dismissing what you have not studied.
premaḷa sthitī udāsa sthitī | yogasthitī dhyānasthitī | videha sthitī sahaja sthitī | sakaḷa jāṇāvem
Loving state, dispassionate state; yoga-state, dhyāna-state; videha state, sahaja state — all should be known.
Even inner states themselves must be studied broadly: the loving state and the detached state, the state of yoga and of meditation, the disembodied state (videha) and the natural, effortless state (sahaja) — the virakta should understand the whole range, not fixate on one as the only valid one.
Recognize that different phases of practice call for different inner states — sometimes loving engagement, sometimes detachment — and do not insist that only one mode is the 'real' spiritual state.
dhvanī lakṣa mudrā āsanem | mamtra yamtra vidhī vidhānem | nānā matāmcem dekhaṇem | pāhona sāmḍāvem
Sounds, goals, seals, postures; mantra, yantra, rites and rules; the seeing of many doctrines — having seen, should be set aside.
Rāmdās then lists the technical apparatus of various yogic and ritual systems — sounds, focal points, seals (mudrā), postures, mantras, ritual instruments (yantra), rites and procedures, the doctrines of many schools — and delivers a sharp instruction: having seen and examined them, set them aside (sāṃḍāve).
Study various techniques and systems enough to understand them, but do not let accumulating techniques become the goal itself — use what serves and set the rest down.
viraktem asāvem jagamitra | viraktem asāvem svatamtra | viraktem asāvem vicitra | bahuguṇī
The virakta should be friend of the world (jaga-mitra); should be free (sva-tantra); should be marvelous (vicitra), with many qualities.
The virakta should be a friend to the whole world (jaga-mitra), should be genuinely free (svatantra, not bound by external control), and should be remarkable, endowed with many good qualities (bahuguṇī) — breadth of virtue matched by breadth of relationship.
Extend your goodwill deliberately beyond your immediate circle — practice treating strangers or outsiders with the same friendliness as your close relations.
viraktem asāvem virakta | viraktem asāvem haribhakta | viraktem asāvem nityamukta | aliptapaṇem
The virakta should be virakta; should be a Hari-devotee; should be ever-liberated (nitya-mukta), by non-attachment (aliptatā).
In a near-tautological but pointed line, Rāmdās insists the virakta must actually be virakta (truly dispassionate, not merely appearing so), must be a genuine devotee of Hari, and must be ever-liberated through real non-attachment (aliptatā), not through outward show.
Test your own claimed detachment honestly: would it hold if the outward markers of renunciation were stripped away, or does it depend on appearances?
viraktem śāstrem dhāmḍoḷāvīm | viraktem matem vibhāmḍāvīm | viraktem mumukṣem lāvāvīm | śuddhamārgem
The virakta should delve into śāstras; should refute [false] doctrines; should set seekers on the pure path.
The virakta should delve deeply into the śāstras, should be willing to refute false or misleading doctrines (matem vibhāṇḍāvīm), and should actively set genuine seekers (mumukṣu) onto the pure path — study is meant to serve others' guidance, not private accumulation.
If you develop real understanding, use it to help correct someone's confusion or misdirection when the opportunity arises, rather than keeping your knowledge to yourself.
viraktem śuddhamārga sāmgāvā | viraktem samśaya chedāvā | viraktem āpalā mhaṇāvā | viśvajana
The virakta should teach the pure path; should sever doubts; should call the world's people his own (āpalā).
The virakta should teach the pure path to others, should sever their doubts, and should regard the whole world's people as his own (āpalā) — an expansive, almost familial claiming of responsibility for others' welfare, not aloofness from them.
Take some ownership of helping resolve a friend's or colleague's genuine confusion or doubt, treating their difficulty as something that also concerns you.
viraktem nimdaka vamdāvem | viraktem sādhaka bodhāve | viraktem baddha cevavāve- | mumukṣanirūpaṇem
The virakta should honor the slanderer; should instruct the seeker; should awaken the bound (baddha) by exposition for the liberation-seeker (mumukṣu-nirūpaṇa).
In a striking instruction, the virakta should honor even the one who slanders him, should instruct the sincere seeker, and should work to awaken those still bound (baddha) through exposition aimed at liberation-seekers — hostility met with respect rather than retaliation.
The next time someone criticizes or slanders you unfairly, respond with basic respect rather than retaliation — this verse treats that restraint as strength, not weakness.
viraktem uttama guṇa ghyāve | viraktem avaguṇa tyāgāve | nānā apāya bhamgāve | vivekabaḷem
The virakta should take up excellent qualities; should renounce defects; should break the many obstructions by the force of discernment (viveka-bala).
The virakta should actively take up excellent qualities and actively renounce his own defects, breaking through the many obstacles that arise by the force of discernment (viveka-bala) — self-improvement framed as an ongoing active struggle, not a settled state.
Name one specific personal defect this week and use active reasoning, not just willpower, to work against it — that is the method this verse recommends.
aisīm he uttama lakṣaṇem | aikāvīm yekāgra manem | yācā avhera na karaṇem | virakta puruṣem
Such are these excellent signs; listen with one-pointed mind; the dispassionate man should not reject them.
Rāmdās signals the catalogue (2.9.007–2.9.039) is complete: these are the excellent signs; listen with one-pointed attention, and the dispassionate person in particular must not reject or dismiss them, even where they seem demanding.
Resist the urge to mentally file away parts of this list as impractical for you; take the whole catalogue seriously rather than picking only the comfortable parts.
itukem bolilem svabhāvem | tyāmta mānela titukem ghyāvem | śrotīm udāsa na karāvem | bahu bolilem mhaṇaunī
This much has been spoken spontaneously; take from it whatever pleases; let the listeners not be disheartened just because much has been said.
In a humble aside, Rāmdās says all this was spoken spontaneously (svabhāvem), and the listener should take from it whatever resonates — he asks that the audience not feel discouraged simply because so much has been said.
If a long list of ideals like this feels overwhelming, take just the one or two points that resonated most rather than abandoning the whole effort out of discouragement.
paramtu lakṣaṇem ne ghetām | avalakṣaṇem bāṣkaḷatā | teṇem tyāsa paḍhatamūrkhatā | yevom pāhe
But not accepting the signs, [one falls into] inauspicious marks and foolishness (bāṣkalatā); by this, paḍhat-mūrkhatā (book-learned foolishness) enters.
A warning closes the samāsa's main teaching: failing to accept and internalize these signs leads instead to inauspicious traits and shallow foolishness (bāṣkaḷatā) — specifically the condition of paḍhat-mūrkhatā, 'learned foolishness,' where knowledge is acquired but wisdom is not.
Watch for the specific failure mode named here — accumulating knowledge or credentials while your actual character stays unformed — and correct toward practice, not just information.
tyā paḍhatamūrkhācem lakṣaṇa | puḍhile samāsīm nirūpaṇa | bolilem ase sāvadhāna- | hoūna āikā
The signs of that paḍhat-mūrkha will be expounded in the next samāsa; spoken here — [so] be attentive and hear.
Rāmdās closes by pointing forward: the traits of the 'learned fool' (paḍhat-mūrkha) named in 2.9.042 will be expounded fully in the next samāsa, and he asks the audience to remain attentive for that continuation.
Stay alert to the warning just given about learned foolishness, and be ready to examine yourself honestly against its fuller description when you encounter it.
