संसार म्हणिजे माहापूर । माजीं जळचरें अपार ।
डंखूं धावती विखार । काळसर्प
samsāra mhaṇije māhāpūra | mājīm jaḷacarem apāra |
ḍamkhūm dhāvatī vikhāra | kāḷasarpa
Samsāra is a great-flood; in its midst are innumerable water-beasts; serpents (black-serpents) run to strike.
आशा ममता देहीं बेडी । सुसरी करिताती तडातोडी ।
नेऊन दुःखाचे सांकडी- । माजीं घालिती
āśā mamatā dehīm beḍī | susarī karitātī taḍātoḍī |
neūna duḥkhāce sāmkaḍī- | mājīm ghālitī
Hope and possessiveness are fetters on the body; crocodiles pull apart; carry into the tight-place of sorrow and cast in.
अहंकारनक्रें उडविलें । नेऊनि पाताळीं बुडविलें ।
तेथुनियां सोडविलें । न वचे प्राणी
ahamkāranakrem uḍavilem | neūni pātāḷīm buḍavilem |
tethuniyām soḍavilem | na vace prāṇī
Ego-crocodile threw [one] down; took to the nether-world, drowned; the creature cannot be released.
काम =मगरमिठी सुटेना । तिरस्कार लागला तुटेना ।
मद मत्सर वोहटेना । भूलि पडिली
kāma =magaramiṭhī suṭenā | tiraskāra lāgalā tuṭenā |
mada matsara vohaṭenā | bhūli paḍilī
Kāma's crocodile-grip does not let go; contempt-attachment does not break; madness, envy do not subside — delusion has fallen.
वासनाधामिणी पडिली गळां । घालून वेंटाळें वमी गरळा ।
जिव्हा लाळी वेळोवेळां । भयानक
vāsanādhāmiṇī paḍilī gaḷām | ghālūna vemṭāḷem vamī garaḷā |
jivhā lāḷī veḷoveḷām | bhayānaka
Vāsanā-python (dhāmiṇī) fell around the neck; coils around and vomits poison; licks the tongue again and again — fearsome.
माथां प्रपंचाचें वोझें । घेऊन म्हणे माझें माझें ।
बुडतांही न सोडी, फुंजे । कुळाभिमानें
māthām prapamcācem vojhem | gheūna mhaṇe mājhem mājhem |
buḍatāmhī na soḍī, phumje | kuḷābhimānem
Bearing the load of prapañca on head, saying 'mine, mine'; even drowning, does not let go — swells with lineage-pride.
पडिलें भ्रांतीचें अंधारें । नागविलें अभिमानचोरें ।
आलें अहंतेचें काविरें । भूतबाधा
paḍilem bhrāmtīcem amdhārem | nāgavilem abhimānacorem |
ālem ahamtecem kāvirem | bhūtabādhā
Fallen into the darkness of delusion; robbed by conceit-thief; the madness of ahamtā — spirit-possession — came.
बहुतेक आवर्तीं पडिले । प्राणी वाहातचि गेले ।
जेंहिं भगवंतासी बोभाईलें । भावार्थबळें
bahuteka āvartīm paḍile | prāṇī vāhātaci gele |
jemhim bhagavamtāsī bobhāīlem | bhāvārthabaḷem
Many drowned in whirlpools; creatures were swept away; those who cried out to Bhagavān by the strength of bhāva —
देव आपण घालूनि उडी । तयांसी नेलें पैलथडी ।
येर तें अभाविकें बापुडीं । वाहातचि गेलीं
deva āpaṇa ghālūni uḍī | tayāmsī nelem pailathaḍī |
yera tem abhāvikem bāpuḍīm | vāhātaci gelīm
God himself leaped in and took them to the far shore; the rest, the faithless poor, were swept away.
भगवंत भावाचा भुकेला । भावार्थ देखोन भुलला ।
संकटीं पावे भाविकाला । रक्षितसे
bhagavamta bhāvācā bhukelā | bhāvārtha dekhona bhulalā |
samkaṭīm pāve bhāvikālā | rakṣitase
Bhagavān is hungry for bhāva; on seeing it, he is enchanted; in trouble, he saves the faithful — he protects.
जयास भगवंत आवडे । तयाचें देवासीं सांकडें ।
संसारदुःख सकळ उडे । निजदासाचें
jayāsa bhagavamta āvaḍe | tayācem devāsīm sāmkaḍem |
samsāraduḥkha sakaḷa uḍe | nijadāsācem
Whoever is loved by Bhagavān, his sorrow-knot is with God; samsāra-sorrow all vanishes — of his own servants.
जे अंकित ईश्वराचे । तयांस सोहळे निजसुखाचे ।
धन्य तेचि दैवाचे । भाविक जन
je amkita īśvarāce | tayāmsa sohaḷe nijasukhāce |
dhanya teci daivāce | bhāvika jana
Those who are the marked-ones of Īśvara — they enjoy the festivals of self-bliss; blessed indeed are they, fortunate — the faithful.
जैसा भाव जयापासीं । तैसा दैव तयासी ।
जाणे भाव अंतरसाक्षी । प्राणीमात्रांचा
jaisā bhāva jayāpāsīm | taisā daiva tayāsī |
jāṇe bhāva amtarasākṣī | prāṇīmātrāmcā
As is one's bhāva, so is one's fortune; the inner-witness knows the bhāva — of every creature.
जरी भाव असिला माईक । तरी देव होये माहा ठक ।
नवल तयाचें कौतुक । जैशास तैसा
jarī bhāva asilā māīka | tarī deva hoye māhā ṭhaka |
navala tayācem kautuka | jaiśāsa taisā
If bhāva is illusory, God becomes the great deceiver; wonderful is his sport — as the bhāva, so God.
जैसें जयाचें भजन । तैसेंची दे समाधान ।
भाव होतां किंचित न्यून । आपणहि दुरावे
jaisem jayācem bhajana | taisemcī de samādhāna |
bhāva hotām kimcita nyūna | āpaṇahi durāve
As one worships, so God gives composure; when bhāva has the slightest deficit, even he distances himself.
दर्पणीं प्रतिबिंब दिसे । जैस्यास तैसें भासे ।
तयाचें सूत्र असे । आपणाच पासीं
darpaṇīm pratibimba dise | jaisyāsa taisem bhāse |
tayācem sūtra ase | āpaṇāca pāsīm
In the mirror the reflection is seen, as is the one so the reflection; its control is with oneself.
जैसें आपण करावें । तैसेंचि तेणें व्हावें ।
जरी डोळे पसरूनि पाहावें । तरी तेंही टवकारे
jaisem āpaṇa karāvem | taisemci teṇem vhāvem |
jarī ḍoḷe pasarūni pāhāvem | tarī temhī ṭavakāre
As you act, so he acts; if you stare open-eyed, he too stares [back].
भृकुटीस घालून मिठी । पाहातां क्रोधें तेंहि उठी ।
आपण हास्य करितां पोटीं । तेंहि आनंदे
bhṛkuṭīsa ghālūna miṭhī | pāhātām krodhem temhi uṭhī |
āpaṇa hāsya karitām poṭīm | temhi ānamde
Frown with anger — he too rises in anger; laugh inwardly — he too is joyful.
जैसा भाव प्रतिबिंबला । तयाचाचि देव जाला ।
जो जैसें भजे त्याला । तैसाचि वोळे
jaisā bhāva pratibimbalā | tayācāci deva jālā |
jo jaisem bhaje tyālā | taisāci voḷe
As the bhāva reflects, that becomes his God; he worships as he does — so [God] flows for him.
भावें परामार्थाचिया वाटा । वाहाती भक्तीचिया पेंठा ।
भरला मोक्षाचा चोहाटा । सज्जनसंगें
bhāvem parāmārthāciyā vāṭā | vāhātī bhaktīciyā pemṭhā |
bharalā mokṣācā cohāṭā | sajjanasamgem
By bhāva, the paths to paramārtha flow; the markets of bhakti run; the crossroads of mokṣa are filled — with the company of the noble.
भावें भजनीं जे लागले । ते ईश्वरी पावन जाले ।
भावार्थबळें उद्धरिले । पूर्वज तेहीं
bhāvem bhajanīm je lāgale | te īśvarī pāvana jāle |
bhāvārthabaḷem uddharile | pūrvaja tehīm
Those who have engaged in bhāva-bhajana are purified in Īśvara; by bhāvārtha-strength they uplifted — even their ancestors.
आपण स्वयें तरले । जनासहि उपेगा आले ।
कीर्तिश्रवणें जाले । अभक्त, भावार्थी
āpaṇa svayem tarale | janāsahi upegā āle |
kīrtiśravaṇem jāle | abhakta, bhāvārthī
They themselves crossed; also were of use to people; by fame-hearing they became — non-devotees turned bhāvārthī.
धन्य तयांची जननी । जे लागले हरिभजनीं ।
तेहिंच येक जन्म जनीं । सार्थक केला
dhanya tayāmcī jananī | je lāgale haribhajanīm |
tehimca yeka janma janīm | sārthaka kelā
Blessed is the mother of those engaged in Hari-bhajana; they alone fulfilled human birth in the world.
तयांची वर्णूं काय थोरी । जयांचा भगवंत कैवारी ।
कासे लाऊन उतरी । पार दुःखाचा
tayāmcī varṇūm kāya thorī | jayāmcā bhagavamta kaivārī |
kāse lāūna utarī | pāra duḥkhācā
How to describe their greatness — whose protector is Bhagavān? Taking to the edge, he carries across the far shore of sorrow.
बहुतां जन्मांचे सेवटीं । जेणें चुके अटाटी ।
तो हा नरदेह भेटी । करी भगवंतीं
bahutām janmāmce sevaṭīm | jeṇem cuke aṭāṭī |
to hā naradeha bheṭī | karī bhagavamtīm
At the end of many births, for one whose struggle ceases — this human body meets with Bhagavān.
म्हणौन धन्य ते भाविक जन । जेंहिं जोडिलें हरिनिधान ।
अनंत जन्मांतरींचें पुण्य । फळासि आलें
mhaṇauna dhanya te bhāvika jana | jemhim joḍilem harinidhāna |
anamta janmāmtarīmcem puṇya | phaḷāsi ālem
Therefore blessed are those bhāvika people who have gained the Hari-treasure; countless past lives' merit has come to fruition.
आयुष्य हेचि रत्नपेटी । माजीं भजनरत्नें गोमटीं ।
ईश्वरीं अर्पूनिया लुटी । आनंदाची करावी
āyuṣya heci ratnapeṭī | mājīm bhajanaratnem gomaṭīm |
īśvarīm arpūniyā luṭī | ānamdācī karāvī
Life is a jewel-chest; within, sweet bhajana-jewels; offering to Īśvara, plunder of joy should be made.
हरिभक्त वैभवें कनिष्ठ । परी तो ब्रह्मादिकां वरिष्ठ ।
सदा सर्वदा संतुष्ट । नैराशबोधें
haribhakta vaibhavem kaniṣṭha | parī to brahmādikām variṣṭha |
sadā sarvadā samtuṣṭa | nairāśabodhem
The Hari-bhakta is small in splendour, but greater than Brahmā and others; ever-content — by the realization of non-expectation.
धरून ईश्वराची कास । केली संसाराची नैराश ।
तयां भाविकां जगदीश । सबाह्य सांभाळी
dharūna īśvarācī kāsa | kelī samsārācī nairāśa |
tayām bhāvikām jagadīśa | sabāhya sāmbhāḷī
Holding the edge of Īśvara, they abandoned all samsāra-hope; over such devotees Jagadīśa watches within-and-without.
जया संसाराचें दुःख । विवेकें वाटे परमसुख ।
संसारसुखाचेनि पढतमूर्ख । लोधोन पडती
jayā samsārācem duḥkha | vivekem vāṭe paramasukha |
samsārasukhāceni paḍhatamūrkha | lodhona paḍatī
To whom samsāra's sorrow feels supreme-joy through discernment; those enchanted by samsāra-pleasure are paḍhat-mūrkha, fallen.
जयांचा ईश्वरीं जिव्हाळा । ते भोगिती स्वानंदसोहळा ।
जयांचा जनावेगळा । ठेवा आक्षै
jayāmcā īśvarīm jivhāḷā | te bhogitī svānamdasohaḷā |
jayāmcā janāvegaḷā | ṭhevā ākṣai
Those who have Īśvara-tenderness enjoy self-bliss-festivals; their treasure is imperishable — apart from the world.
ते आक्षै सुखें सुखावले । संसारदुःखें विसरले ।
विषयेरंगी वोरंगले । श्रीरंगरंगीं
te ākṣai sukhem sukhāvale | samsāraduḥkhem visarale |
viṣayeramgī voramgale | śrīramgaramgīm
They rejoice in imperishable joy; forget samsāra-sorrow; [they who were] dyed in sense-pleasure are dyed in Śrīranga-colour.
तयांस फावली नरदेह पेटी । केली ईश्वरेंसिं साटी ।
येरें अभाविकें करंटीं । नरदेह गेला
tayāmsa phāvalī naradeha peṭī | kelī īśvaremsim sāṭī |
yerem abhāvikem karamṭīm | naradeha gelā
To them the human-body-box became useful; made it a bargain with Īśvara; the other faithless unfortunates — human-body gone.
आवचटें निधान जोडलें । तें कवडिच्या बदल नेलें ।
तैसें आयुष्य निघोनि गेलें । अभाविकाचें
āvacaṭem nidhāna joḍalem | tem kavaḍicyā badala nelem |
taisem āyuṣya nighoni gelem | abhāvikācem
Suddenly the treasure was found; taken in exchange of a cowrie; such the life-span departed — of the faithless.
बहुता तपाचा सांठा । तीणें लाधला परीस गोटा ।
परी तो ठाईंचा करंटा । भोगूंच नेणे
bahutā tapācā sāmṭhā | tīṇem lādhalā parīsa goṭā |
parī to ṭhāīmcā karamṭā | bhogūmca neṇe
Many austerities' store — by it he gained a parīsa-gem; yet being a born-unfortunate, he does not know how to use it.
तैसा संसारास आला । मायाजाळीं गुंडाळला ।
अंतीं येकलाचि गेला । हात झाडुनी
taisā samsārāsa ālā | māyājāḷīm gumḍāḷalā |
amtīm yekalāci gelā | hāta jhāḍunī
So he came into samsāra; wrapped in māyā's net; at end, goes alone — empty-handed.
या नरदेहाचेनि संगतीं । बहुत पावले उत्तम गती ।
येकें बापुडी यातायाती । वरपडी जालीं
yā naradehāceni samgatīm | bahuta pāvale uttama gatī |
yekem bāpuḍī yātāyātī | varapaḍī jālīm
By this human-body's company, many attained the highest state; some poor ones received torment-after-torment.
या नरदेहाचेनि लागवेगें । सार्थक करावे संतसंगें ।
नीचयोनीं दुःख मागें । बहुत भोगिलें
yā naradehāceni lāgavegem | sārthaka karāve samtasamgem |
nīcayonīm duḥkha māgem | bahuta bhogilem
By this human-body's speed, [one] should make [life] fulfilled by sat-sanga; the sorrow of lower wombs has already been experienced much.
कोण समयो येईल कैसा । याचा न कळे किं भर्वसा ।
जैसे पक्षी दाही दिशा । उडोन जाती
koṇa samayo yeīla kaisā | yācā na kaḷe kim bharvasā |
jaise pakṣī dāhī diśā | uḍona jātī
What moment will come and how — one cannot know; like birds in ten directions, [souls] fly away.
तैसें वैभव हें सकळ । कोण जाणे कैसी वेळ ।
पुत्रकळत्रादि सकळ । विघडोन जाती
taisem vaibhava hem sakaḷa | koṇa jāṇe kaisī veḷa |
putrakaḷatrādi sakaḷa | vighaḍona jātī
So all splendour — who knows what moment [it will end]? Son, wife and all — are torn apart.
पाहिली घडी नव्हे आपुली । वयसा तरी निघोन गेली ।
देह पडतांच ठेविली- । आहे नींच योनी
pāhilī ghaḍī navhe āpulī | vayasā tarī nighona gelī |
deha paḍatāmca ṭhevilī- | āhe nīmca yonī
The moment seen is not our own; age passes; as soon as body falls — a low-womb awaits.
स्वान शुकरादिक नीच याती । भोगणें घडे विपत्ती ।
तेथे कांहीं उत्तम गती । पाविजेत नाहीं
svāna śukarādika nīca yātī | bhogaṇem ghaḍe vipattī |
tethe kāmhīm uttama gatī | pāvijeta nāhīm
Dog, pig, and other low-castes — one must experience calamity; there no higher state is attained.
मागा गर्भवासीं आटाटी । भोगितां जालासि रे हिंपुटी ।
तेथुनियां थोरा कष्टीं । सुटलासि दैवें
māgā garbhavāsīm āṭāṭī | bhogitām jālāsi re himpuṭī |
tethuniyām thorā kaṣṭīm | suṭalāsi daivem
Earlier in the womb there was struggle; you became exhausted experiencing; from there, with great labor, by fortune you escaped.
दुःख भोगिलें आपुल्या जीवें । तेथें कैचिं होतीं सर्वें ।
तैचेंचि पुढें येकलें जावें । लागेल बापा
duḥkha bhogilem āpulyā jīvem | tethem kaicim hotīm sarvem |
taicemci puḍhem yekalem jāvem | lāgela bāpā
Sorrow was experienced by your own life; where were all the 'relatives' then? So, in the future — alone you must go.
कैंचि माता कैंचा पिता । कैंचि बहिण कैंचा भ्राता ।
कैंचीं सुहृदें कैंची वनिता । पुत्रकळत्रादिक
kaimci mātā kaimcā pitā | kaimci bahiṇa kaimcā bhrātā |
kaimcīm suhṛdem kaimcī vanitā | putrakaḷatrādika
Where is mother, father, sister, brother, beloveds, wife, son-and-daughter?
हे तूं जाण मावेचीं । आवघीं सोइरीं सुखाचीं ।
हे तुझ्या सुखदुःखाचीं । सांगाती नव्हेती
he tūm jāṇa māvecīm | āvaghīm soirīm sukhācīm |
he tujhyā sukhaduḥkhācīm | sāmgātī navhetī
Know these as māyā's; all affectionate for [their own] comfort; they are not companions of your happiness-and-sorrow.
कैंचा प्रपंच कैंचे कुळ । कासया होतोसी व्याकुळ ।
धन कण लक्ष्मी सकळ । जाइजणें
kaimcā prapamca kaimce kuḷa | kāsayā hotosī vyākuḷa |
dhana kaṇa lakṣmī sakaḷa | jāijaṇem
Where is prapañca, where is kula — why do you grow anxious? Wealth, grain, Lakṣmī — all goes [departs].
कैंचें घर कैंचा संसार । कासया करिसी जोजार ।
जन्मवरी वाहोन भार । सेखीं सांडून जासी
kaimcem ghara kaimcā samsāra | kāsayā karisī jojāra |
janmavarī vāhona bhāra | sekhīm sāmḍūna jāsī
Where is home, where is samsāra — why do you bear the burden? For a life-span, carrying weight, finally you leave it behind.
कैंचें तारुण्य कैंचे वैभव । कैंचें सोहळे हावभाव ।
हें सकळहि जाण माव । माईक माया
kaimcem tāruṇya kaimce vaibhava | kaimcem sohaḷe hāvabhāva |
hem sakaḷahi jāṇa māva | māīka māyā
Where is youth, where is splendour; where are festivals and gestures — know all this as illusion, māyika māyā.
येच क्षणीं मरोन जासी । तरी रघुनाथीं अंतरलासी ।
माझें माझें म्हणतोसी । म्हणौनियां
yeca kṣaṇīm marona jāsī | tarī raghunāthīm amtaralāsī |
mājhem mājhem mhaṇatosī | mhaṇauniyām
In this very moment if you die — you are separated from Raghunātha; saying 'mine, mine' [in vain].
तुवां भोगिल्या पुनरावृत्ती । ऐसीं मायबापें किती ।
स्त्री कन्या पुत्र होती । लक्षानलक्ष
tuvām bhogilyā punarāvṛttī | aisīm māyabāpem kitī |
strī kanyā putra hotī | lakṣānalakṣa
You have experienced countless rebirths; how many such parents, wives, daughters, sons — lakhs of lakhs.
कर्मयोगें सकळ मिळालीं । येके स्थळीं जन्मास आलीं ।
तें तुवां आपुलीं मानिलीं । कैसीं रे पढतमूर्खा
karmayogem sakaḷa miḷālīm | yeke sthaḷīm janmāsa ālīm |
tem tuvām āpulīm mānilīm | kaisīm re paḍhatamūrkhā
By karma-yoga they all met; born in one place; you took them as your own — how [foolishly], O paḍhat-mūrkha.
तुझें तुज नव्हे शरीर । तेथें इतरांचा कोण विचार ।
आतां येक भगवंत साचार । धरीं भावार्थबळें
tujhem tuja navhe śarīra | tethem itarāmcā koṇa vicāra |
ātām yeka bhagavamta sācāra | dharīm bhāvārthabaḷem
Your body is not yours; what consideration there for others? Now hold firmly to Bhagavān alone — by bhāvārtha-strength.
येका दुर्भराकारणें । नाना नीचांची सेवा करणें ।
नाना स्तुती आणी स्तवनें । मर्यादा धरावी
yekā durbharākāraṇem | nānā nīcāmcī sevā karaṇem |
nānā stutī āṇī stavanem | maryādā dharāvī
For one hard-to-fill [stomach], one must serve many low ones; maintain many praises and salutations, propriety.
जो अन्न देतो उदरासी । शेरीर विकावें लागे त्यासी ।
मां जेणें घातलें जन्मासी । त्यासी कैसें विसरावें
jo anna deto udarāsī | śerīra vikāvem lāge tyāsī |
mām jeṇem ghātalem janmāsī | tyāsī kaisem visarāvem
To him who gives food for the belly, you must sell the body; how much more to Him who gave birth — how can He be forgotten?
अहिर्निशीं ज्या भगवंता । सकळ जिवांची लागली चिंता ।
मेघ वरुषे जयाची सत्ता । सिंधु मर्यादा धरी
ahirniśīm jyā bhagavamtā | sakaḷa jivāmcī lāgalī cimtā |
megha varuṣe jayācī sattā | simdhu maryādā dharī
That Bhagavān who cares day-and-night for all creatures; by whose order clouds rain; the ocean keeps its bound.
भूमि धरिली धराधरें । प्रगट होईजे दिनकरें ।
ऐसी सृष्टी सत्तामात्रें । चालवी जो कां
bhūmi dharilī dharādharem | pragaṭa hoīje dinakarem |
aisī sṛṣṭī sattāmātrem | cālavī jo kām
The earth is held by the supporter; manifest by the sun — such a creation by mere-command is run by Him.
ऐसा कृपाळु देवाधिदेव । नेणवे जयाचें लाघव ।
जो सांभाळी सकळ जीव । कृपाळुपणें
aisā kṛpāḷu devādhideva | neṇave jayācem lāghava |
jo sāmbhāḷī sakaḷa jīva | kṛpāḷupaṇem
Such a compassionate Deva-of-devas — whose sport is unknowable; who cares for all beings — by compassion.
ऐसा सर्वात्मा श्रीराम- । सांडून, धरिती विषयकाम ।
ते प्राणी दुरात्मे अद्धम । केलें पावती
aisā sarvātmā śrīrāma- | sāmḍūna, dharitī viṣayakāma |
te prāṇī durātme addhama | kelem pāvatī
Abandoning such All-Self-Śrīrāma, those who hold sense-craving are wicked-souled and base — they get what they seek.
रामेविण जे जे आस । तितुकी जाणावी नैराश ।
माझें माझें सावकाश । सीणचि उरे
rāmeviṇa je je āsa | titukī jāṇāvī nairāśa |
mājhem mājhem sāvakāśa | sīṇaci ure
All hope apart from Rāma — know it all as non-hope (nirāśya); 'mine, mine' said leisurely — only weariness remains.
जयास वाटे सीण व्हावा । तेणें विषयो चिंतीत जावा ।
विषयो न मिळतां जीवा । तगबग सुटे
jayāsa vāṭe sīṇa vhāvā | teṇem viṣayo cimtīta jāvā |
viṣayo na miḷatām jīvā | tagabaga suṭe
One who feels weariness should go contemplating sense-objects; when objects are not obtained, the life throbs.
सांडून राम आनंदघन । ज्याचे मनीं विषयचिंतन ।
त्यासी कैंचें समाधान । लोलंगतासी
sāmḍūna rāma ānamdaghana | jyāce manīm viṣayacimtana |
tyāsī kaimcem samādhāna | lolamgatāsī
Abandoning Rāma — joy-cloud — in whose mind there is sense-contemplation — where is composure for him — desirous one?
जयास वाटे सुखचि असावें । तेणें रघुनाथभजनीं लागावें ।
स्वजन सकळही त्यागावे । दुःखमूळ जे
jayāsa vāṭe sukhaci asāvem | teṇem raghunāthabhajanīm lāgāvem |
svajana sakaḷahī tyāgāve | duḥkhamūḷa je
One who wants only happiness — he should engage in Raghunātha-bhajana; renounce all kin — root of sorrow.
जेथें वासना झोंबोन पडे । तेणेंचि अपायें दुःख जडे ।
म्हणौनि विषयवासना मोडे । तो येक सुखी
jethem vāsanā jhombona paḍe | teṇemci apāyem duḥkha jaḍe |
mhaṇauni viṣayavāsanā moḍe | to yeka sukhī
Where the vāsanā clings and falls, by that very misfortune, sorrow clings; therefore when sense-vāsanā breaks, one alone is happy.
विषयजनित जें जें सुख । तेथेंचि होतें परम दुःख ।
पूर्वीं गोड अंतीं शोक । नेमस्त आहे
viṣayajanita jem jem sukha | tethemci hotem parama duḥkha |
pūrvīm goḍa amtīm śoka | nemasta āhe
The pleasure arising from sense-objects — there itself is supreme sorrow; sweet at first, grief at end — this is fixed.
गळ गिळितां सुख वाटे । वोढून घेतां घसा फाटे ।
कां तें बापुडें मृग आपटे । चारा घेऊन पळतां
gaḷa giḷitām sukha vāṭe | voḍhūna ghetām ghasā phāṭe |
kām tem bāpuḍem mṛga āpaṭe | cārā gheūna paḷatām
Swallowing the hook feels sweet; when pulled, the throat is torn; like the poor deer — runs with the bait and is hit.
तैसी विषयसुखाची गोडी । गोड वाटे परी ते कुडी ।
म्हणौनियां आवडी । रघुनाथीं धरावी । ६७॥
ऐकोनि बोले भाविक । कैसेनि घडे जी सार्थक ।
सांगा स्वामी येमलोक । चुके जेणें
taisī viṣayasukhācī goḍī | goḍa vāṭe parī te kuḍī |
mhaṇauniyām āvaḍī | raghunāthīm dharāvī | 67 ||
aikoni bole bhāvika | kaiseni ghaḍe jī sārthaka |
sāmgā svāmī yemaloka | cuke jeṇem
Such is the sweetness of sense-pleasure — feels sweet but is rotten; therefore cultivate love — for Raghunātha. Hearing this, the devoted one says, 'how shall fulfillment come? O Master, by what means does Yama-loka cease?'
देवासी वास्तव्य कोठें । तो मज कैसेंनि भेटे ।
दुःखमूळ संसार तुटे । कोणेपरी स्वामी
devāsī vāstavya koṭhem | to maja kaisemni bheṭe |
duḥkhamūḷa samsāra tuṭe | koṇeparī svāmī
'Where does God dwell? How shall He meet me? How is samsāra — root of sorrow — cut, O Master?'
धडपुडी भगवत्प्राप्ती- । होऊन, चुके अधिगती ।
ऐसा उपाये कृपामूर्ती । मज दीनास करावा
dhaḍapuḍī bhagavatprāptī- | hoūna, cuke adhigatī |
aisā upāye kṛpāmūrtī | maja dīnāsa karāvā
'Make a solid attainment of Bhagavān for me — that my lower-state ceases; such an upāya, O compassion-form, for me the lowly, make.'
वक्ता म्हणे हो येकभावें । भगवद्भजन करावें ।
तेणें होईल स्वभावें । समाधान
vaktā mhaṇe ho yekabhāvem | bhagavadbhajana karāvem |
teṇem hoīla svabhāvem | samādhāna
The teacher says: with one-pointed bhāva, do Bhagavad-bhajana; by that, naturally, composure will come.
कैसें करावें भगवद्भजन । कोठें ठेवावें हें मन ।
भगवद्भजनाचें लक्षण । मज निरोपावें
kaisem karāvem bhagavadbhajana | koṭhem ṭhevāvem hem mana |
bhagavadbhajanācem lakṣaṇa | maja niropāvem
'How shall Bhagavad-bhajana be done? Where to place the mind? The sign of Bhagavad-bhajana — tell me, please.'
ऐसा म्लानवदनें बोले । धरिले सदृढ पाऊलें ।
कंठ सद्गदित, गळाले । अश्रुपात दुःखें
aisā mlānavadanem bole | dharile sadṛḍha pāūlem |
kamṭha sadgadita, gaḷāle | aśrupāta duḥkhem
Thus with sorrowful face he speaks; holds the feet firmly; throat choked, tears fell — in sorrow.
देखोन शिष्याची अनन्यता । भावें वोळला सद्गुरु दाता ।
स्वानंद तुंबळेल आतां । पुढिले समासीं
dekhona śiṣyācī ananyatā | bhāvem voḷalā sadguru dātā |
svānamda tumbaḷela ātām | puḍhile samāsīm
Seeing the disciple's *ananyatā* (exclusive devotion), by bhāva the Sadguru-giver inclined; self-bliss will brim over — in the next samāsa.
