जयजय जी गणनाथा । तूं विद्यावैभवें समर्था ।
अध्यात्मविद्येच्या परमार्था । मज बोलवावें
jayajaya jī gaṇanāthā | tūm vidyāvaibhavem samarthā |
adhyātmavidyecyā paramārthā | maja bolavāvem
Victory to Gaṇanātha, you mighty in knowledge-wealth; let me speak of the ultimate of adhyātma-vidyā.
नमूं शारदा वेदजननी । सकळ सिद्धि जयेचेनी ।
मानस प्रवर्तलें मननीं । स्फूर्तिरूपें
namūm śāradā vedajananī | sakaḷa siddhi jayecenī |
mānasa pravartalem mananīm | sphūrtirūpem
I bow to Śāradā, mother of Vedas; by whom all accomplishments arise; mind engages in contemplation, as inspiration-form.
आतां आठऊं सद्गुरु । जो पराचाहि परु ।
जयाचेनि ज्ञानविचारु । कळों लागे
ātām āṭhaūm sadguru | jo parācāhi paru |
jayāceni jñānavicāru | kaḷom lāge
Now I recall the Sadguru, who is beyond the beyond; by whom jñāna-reasoning begins to be understood.
श्रोतेन पुसिलें बरवें । भगवद्भजन कैसें करावें ।
म्हणौनि बोलिलें स्वभावें । ग्रंथांतरीं
śrotena pusilem baravem | bhagavadbhajana kaisem karāvem |
mhaṇauni bolilem svabhāvem | gramthāmtarīm
The listener asked well, 'how should Bhagavad-bhajana be done?' — so in this text, it is naturally spoken.
सावध होऊन श्रोतेजन । ऐका नवविधा भजन ।
सत्शास्त्रीं बोलिले, पावन- । होईजे येणें
sāvadha hoūna śrotejana | aikā navavidhā bhajana |
satśāstrīm bolile, pāvana- | hoīje yeṇem
Being attentive, listeners, hear the nine-fold bhajana; spoken in sat-śāstras — by it one is purified.
श्लोक ॥ श्रवणं कीर्तनं विष्णोः स्मरणं पादसेवनम् ।
अर्चनं वंदनं दास्यं सख्यमात्मनिवेदनम् ॥
नवविधा भजन बोलिलें । तेंचि पुढें प्रांजळ केलें ।
श्रोतीं अवधान दिधलें । पाहिजे आतां
śloka || śravaṇam kīrtanam viṣṇoḥ smaraṇam pādasevanam |
arcanam vamdanam dāsyam sakhyamātmanivedanam ||
navavidhā bhajana bolilem | temci puḍhem prāmjaḷa kelem |
śrotīm avadhāna didhalem | pāhije ātām
[Śloka] 'śravaṇam kīrtanam viṣṇoḥ smaraṇam pāda-sevanam | arcanam vandanam dāsyam sakhyam ātma-nivedanam' — nine-fold bhajana is spoken; that is now clarified; listeners, give attention.
प्रथम भजन ऐसें जाण । हरिकथापुराणश्रवण ।
नाना अध्यात्मनिरूपण । ऐकत जावें
prathama bhajana aisem jāṇa | harikathāpurāṇaśravaṇa |
nānā adhyātmanirūpaṇa | aikata jāvem
The first bhajana — know thus: Hari-kathā and Purāṇa-hearing; many adhyātma expositions — one should continue to hear.
कर्ममार्ग उपासनामार्ग । ज्ञानमार्ग सिद्धांतमार्ग ।
योगमार्ग वैराग्यमार्ग । ऐकत जावे
karmamārga upāsanāmārga | jñānamārga siddhāmtamārga |
yogamārga vairāgyamārga | aikata jāve
Karma-mārga, upāsanā-mārga, jñāna-mārga, siddhānta-mārga, yoga-mārga, vairāgya-mārga — one should continue to hear them.
नाना व्रतांचे महिमे । नाना तीर्थांचे महिमे ।
नाना दानांचे महिमे । ऐकत जावे
nānā vratāmce mahime | nānā tīrthāmce mahime |
nānā dānāmce mahime | aikata jāve
The glories of many vratas, many pilgrimages, many charities — one should continue to hear.
नाना माहात्म्यें नाना स्थानें । नाना मंत्र नाना साधनें ।
नाना तपें पुरश्चरणें । ऐकत जावीं
nānā māhātmyem nānā sthānem | nānā mamtra nānā sādhanem |
nānā tapem puraścaraṇem | aikata jāvīm
Many mahātmya-glories, many holy sites, many mantras, many sādhanas, many austerities and mantra-purifications — one should hear.
दुग्धाहारी निराहारी । फळाहारी पर्णाहारी ।
तृणाहारी नानाहारी । कैसे ते ऐकावे
dugdhāhārī nirāhārī | phaḷāhārī parṇāhārī |
tṛṇāhārī nānāhārī | kaise te aikāve
Milk-dieters, foodless, fruit-eaters, leaf-eaters, grass-eaters, varied-eaters — how they are — should be heard.
उष्णवास जळवास । सीतवास आरण्यवास ।
भूगर्भ आणी आकाशवास । कैसे ते ऐकावे
uṣṇavāsa jaḷavāsa | sītavāsa āraṇyavāsa |
bhūgarbha āṇī ākāśavāsa | kaise te aikāve
Heat-dwellers, water-dwellers, cold-dwellers, forest-dwellers, earth-cavern and sky-dwellers — how they are — should be heard.
जपी तपी तामस योगी । नाना निग्रह हटयोगी ।
शाक्तआगम आघोरयोगी । कैसे ते ऐकावे
japī tapī tāmasa yogī | nānā nigraha haṭayogī |
śāktaāgama āghorayogī | kaise te aikāve
Japa-doers, tapasvīs, tāmasic yogis, many niyama-practitioners, haṭha-yogis, śākta, āgora-yogis — how they are — should be heard.
नाना मुद्रा नाना आसनें । नाना देखणीं लक्षस्थानें ।
पिंडज्ञानें तत्वज्ञानें । कैसीं तें ऐकावीं
nānā mudrā nānā āsanem | nānā dekhaṇīm lakṣasthānem |
pimḍajñānem tatvajñānem | kaisīm tem aikāvīm
Many mudrās, many āsanas, visions, concentration-points; body-knowledge, tattva-knowledge — how they are — should be heard.
नाना पिंडांची रचना । नाना भूगोळरचना ।
नाना सृष्टीची रचना । कैसी ते ऐकावी
nānā pimḍāmcī racanā | nānā bhūgoḷaracanā |
nānā sṛṣṭīcī racanā | kaisī te aikāvī
Many piṇḍa-constructions, many earth-constructions, many sṛṣṭi-constructions — how they are — should be heard.
चंद्र सूर्य तारामंडळें । ग्रहमंडळें मेघमंडळें ।
येकवीस स्वर्गें सप्त पाताळें । कैसीं ते ऐकावीं
camdra sūrya tārāmamḍaḷem | grahamamḍaḷem meghamamḍaḷem |
yekavīsa svargem sapta pātāḷem | kaisīm te aikāvīm
Moon, Sun, star-constellations, planet-orbits, cloud-orbits, twenty-one heavens, seven patālas — how they are — should be heard.
ब्रह्माविष्णुमहेशस्थानें । इन्द्रदेवऋषीस्थानें ।
वायोवरुणकुबेरस्थानें । कैसीं ते ऐकावीं ॥ १७ ।
नव खंडे चौदा भुवनें । अष्ट दिग्पाळांची स्थानें ।
नाना वनें उपवनें गहनें । कैसीं ते ऐकावीं
brahmāviṣṇumaheśasthānem | indradevaṛṣīsthānem |
vāyovaruṇakuberasthānem | kaisīm te aikāvīm || 17 |
nava khamḍe caudā bhuvanem | aṣṭa digpāḷāmcī sthānem |
nānā vanem upavanem gahanem | kaisīm te aikāvīm
Abodes of Brahmā-Viṣṇu-Maheśa; of Indra, Rṣis; of Vāyu, Varuṇa, Kubera — how they are — should be heard. Nine continents, fourteen bhuvanas, eight diśā-rulers' abodes, forests, groves, thickets — should be heard.
गण गंधर्व विद्याधर । येक्ष किन्नर नारद तुंबर ।
अष्ट नायका संगीतविचार । कैसा तो ऐकावा
gaṇa gamdharva vidyādhara | yekṣa kinnara nārada tumbara |
aṣṭa nāyakā samgītavicāra | kaisā to aikāvā
Gaṇas, gandharvas, vidyādharas; yakṣas, kinnaras, Nārada, Tumburu; eight nāyikās of music — how they are — should be heard.
रागज्ञान ताळज्ञान । नृत्यज्ञान वाद्यज्ञान ।
अमृतवेळ प्रसंगज्ञान । कैसें तें ऐकावें
rāgajñāna tāḷajñāna | nṛtyajñāna vādyajñāna |
amṛtaveḷa prasamgajñāna | kaisem tem aikāvem
Rāga-knowledge, tāla-knowledge, nṛtya-knowledge, vādya-knowledge; ambrosial-time, occasion-knowledge — how it is — should be heard.
चौदा विद्या चौसष्टी कळा । सामुद्रिक लक्षणें सकळ कळा ।
बत्तीस लक्षणें नाना कळा । कैशा त्या ऐकाव्या
caudā vidyā causaṣṭī kaḷā | sāmudrika lakṣaṇem sakaḷa kaḷā |
battīsa lakṣaṇem nānā kaḷā | kaiśā tyā aikāvyā
Fourteen sciences, sixty-four arts; sāmudrika marks, all skills; thirty-two marks, many skills — how they are — should be heard.
मंत्र मोहरे तोटके सिद्धी । नाना वल्ली नाना औषधी ।
धातु रसायण बुद्धी । नाडिज्ञानें ऐकावीं
mamtra mohare toṭake siddhī | nānā vallī nānā auṣadhī |
dhātu rasāyaṇa buddhī | nāḍijñānem aikāvīm
Mantras, seals, prognostications, siddhis; many herbs, many medicines; metals, rasāyana wisdom; pulse-knowledge — should be heard.
कोण्या दोषें कोण रोग । कोणा रोगास कोण प्रयोग ।
कोण्या प्रयोगास कोण योग । साधे तो ऐकावा
koṇyā doṣem koṇa roga | koṇā rogāsa koṇa prayoga |
koṇyā prayogāsa koṇa yoga | sādhe to aikāvā
What fault causes what disease; what treatment for what disease; what yoga brings what effect — should be heard.
रवरवादि कुंभपाक । नाना यातना येमेलोक ।
सुखसुःखादि स्वर्गनर्क । कैसा तो ऐकावा
ravaravādi kumbhapāka | nānā yātanā yemeloka |
sukhasuḥkhādi svarganarka | kaisā to aikāvā
Raurava and kumbhīpāka; many tortures of Yama's world; happiness-sorrow-etc. of heaven-and-hell — should be heard.
कैशा नवविधा भक्ती । कैशा चतुर्विधा मुक्ती ।
कैसी पाविजे उत्तम गती । ऐसें हें ऐकावें
kaiśā navavidhā bhaktī | kaiśā caturvidhā muktī |
kaisī pāvije uttama gatī | aisem hem aikāvem
How the nine-fold bhakti is; how the four-fold mukti is; how the highest state is attained — thus should be heard.
पिंडब्रह्मांडाची रचना । नाना तत्वविवंचना ।
सारासारविचारणा । कैसी ते ऐकावी
pimḍabrahmāmḍācī racanā | nānā tatvavivamcanā |
sārāsāravicāraṇā | kaisī te aikāvī
Constructions of piṇḍa and brahmāṇḍa; investigation of many tattvas; reasoning of essence-and-non-essence — should be heard.
सायोज्यता मुक्ती कैसी होते । कैसें पाविजे मोक्षातें ।
याकारणें नाना मतें । शोधित जावीं
sāyojyatā muktī kaisī hote | kaisem pāvije mokṣātem |
yākāraṇem nānā matem | śodhita jāvīm
How does sāyojya-mukti happen; how is mokṣa attained; for this one should investigate many doctrines.
वेद शास्त्रें आणी पुराणें । माहावाक्याचीं विवरणें ।
तनुशतुष्टयनिर्शनें । कैसीं ते ऐकावीं
veda śāstrem āṇī purāṇem | māhāvākyācīm vivaraṇem |
tanuśatuṣṭayanirśanem | kaisīm te aikāvīm
Vedas, śāstras, Purāṇas; expositions of mahāvākyas; examinations of the four-body — should be heard.
ऐसें हें अवघेंचि ऐकावें । परंतु सार शोधून घ्यावें ।
असार तें जाणोनि त्यागावें । या नांव श्रवणभक्ति
aisem hem avaghemci aikāvem | paramtu sāra śodhūna ghyāvem |
asāra tem jāṇoni tyāgāvem | yā nāmva śravaṇabhakti
**All this should be heard — but extract the essence; knowing the non-essence, renounce it — this is called śravaṇa-bhakti.**
सगुणाचीं चरित्रें ऐकावीं । कां तें निर्गुण अध्यात्में शोधावीं ।
श्रवणभक्तीचीं जाणावीं । लक्षणें ऐसीं
saguṇācīm caritrem aikāvīm | kām tem nirguṇa adhyātmem śodhāvīm |
śravaṇabhaktīcīm jāṇāvīm | lakṣaṇem aisīm
Saguṇa-deity-stories should be heard; or nirguṇa investigated in adhyātma; such are the signs of śravaṇa-bhakti.
सगुण देवांचीं चरित्रें । निर्गुणाचीं तत्वें यंत्रें ।
हे दोनी परम पवित्रें । ऐकत जावीं
saguṇa devāmcīm caritrem | nirguṇācīm tatvem yamtrem |
he donī parama pavitrem | aikata jāvīm
Saguṇa-deity stories, nirguṇa-tattva-yantras — both are supremely pure; continue to hear them.
जयंत्या उपोषणें नाना साधनें । मंत्र यंत्र जप ध्यानें ।
कीर्ति स्तुती स्तवनें भजनें । नानाविधें ऐकावीं
jayamtyā upoṣaṇem nānā sādhanem | mamtra yamtra japa dhyānem |
kīrti stutī stavanem bhajanem | nānāvidhem aikāvīm
Jayantīs, upavāsas, many sādhanas; mantras, yantras, japa, dhyāna; fame, praise, stotras, bhajanas of many kinds — should be heard.
ऐसें श्रवण सगुणाचें । अध्यात्मनिरूपण निर्गुणाचें ।
विभक्ती सांडून भक्तीचें । मूळ शोधावें
aisem śravaṇa saguṇācem | adhyātmanirūpaṇa nirguṇācem |
vibhaktī sāmḍūna bhaktīcem | mūḷa śodhāvem
Such is the hearing of saguṇa, the exposition of nirguṇa; abandoning separation — seek the root of bhakti.
श्रवणभक्तीचें निरूपण । निरोपिलें असे जाण ।
पुढें कीर्तन भजनाचें लक्षण । बोलिलें असे
śravaṇabhaktīcem nirūpaṇa | niropilem ase jāṇa |
puḍhem kīrtana bhajanācem lakṣaṇa | bolilem ase
The exposition of śravaṇa-bhakti — this has been given; next, the signs of kīrtana-bhajana are spoken.
