श्रीराम ॥
ऐक परमार्थाचें साधन । जेणें होय समाधान ।
तें तूं जाण गा श्रवण । निश्चयेंसीं
śrīrāma ||
aika paramārthācem sādhana | jeṇem hoya samādhāna |
tem tūm jāṇa gā śravaṇa | niścayemsīm
Śrīrāma. Hear the sādhana of paramārtha by which composure happens; know that — certainly — as *śravaṇa*.
श्रवणें आतुडे भक्ती । श्रवणें उद्भवे विरक्ती ।
श्रवणें तुटे आसक्ती । विषयांची
śravaṇem ātuḍe bhaktī | śravaṇem udbhave viraktī |
śravaṇem tuṭe āsaktī | viṣayāmcī
By śravaṇa, bhakti is encountered; by śravaṇa, virakti arises; by śravaṇa, attachment to sense-objects is cut.
श्रवणें घडे चित्तशुद्धी । श्रवणें होय दृढ बुद्धी ।
श्रवणें तुटे उपाधी । अभिमानाची
śravaṇem ghaḍe cittaśuddhī | śravaṇem hoya dṛḍha buddhī |
śravaṇem tuṭe upādhī | abhimānācī
By śravaṇa, citta-purity happens; by śravaṇa, firm intellect; by śravaṇa, the limiting-condition of pride is cut.
श्रवणें निश्चयो घडे । श्रवणें ममता मोडे ।
श्रवणें अंतरीं जोडे । समाधान
śravaṇem niścayo ghaḍe | śravaṇem mamatā moḍe |
śravaṇem amtarīm joḍe | samādhāna
By śravaṇa, resolve arises; by śravaṇa, possessiveness breaks; by śravaṇa, composure is gained inwardly.
श्रवणें आशंका फिटे । श्रवणें संशयो तुटे ।
श्रवण होतां पालटे । पूर्वगुण आपुला
śravaṇem āśamkā phiṭe | śravaṇem samśayo tuṭe |
śravaṇa hotām pālaṭe | pūrvaguṇa āpulā
By śravaṇa, apprehension clears; by śravaṇa, doubt is cut; on hearing, one's previous quality changes.
श्रवणें आवरे मन । श्रवणें घडे समाधान ।
श्रवणें तुटे बंधन । देहबुद्धीचें
śravaṇem āvare mana | śravaṇem ghaḍe samādhāna |
śravaṇem tuṭe bamdhana | dehabuddhīcem
By śravaṇa, the mind is controlled; by śravaṇa, composure happens; by śravaṇa, the bondage of body-intellect breaks.
श्रवणें मीपण जाय । श्रवणें धोका न ये ।
श्रवणें नाना अपाय । भस्म होती
śravaṇem mīpaṇa jāya | śravaṇem dhokā na ye |
śravaṇem nānā apāya | bhasma hotī
By śravaṇa, I-ness goes; by śravaṇa, no danger comes; by śravaṇa, many calamities are burned to ash.
श्रवणें होय कार्यसिद्धि । श्रवणें लागे समाधी ।
श्रवणें घडे सर्वसिद्धी । समाधानाची
śravaṇem hoya kāryasiddhi | śravaṇem lāge samādhī |
śravaṇem ghaḍe sarvasiddhī | samādhānācī
By śravaṇa, task-accomplishment; by śravaṇa, samādhi comes; by śravaṇa, all siddhi — of composure.
सत्संगावरी श्रवण । तेणें कळे निरूपण ।
श्रवणें हो)इजे आपण । तदाकार
satsamgāvarī śravaṇa | teṇem kaḷe nirūpaṇa |
śravaṇem ho)ije āpaṇa | tadākāra
Śravaṇa after sat-sanga; by that, nirūpaṇa is understood; by śravaṇa, oneself becomes tadākāra.
श्रवणें प्रबोध वाढे । श्रवणें प्रज्ञा चढे ।
श्रवणें विषयांचे ओढे । तुटोनि जाती
śravaṇem prabodha vāḍhe | śravaṇem prajñā caḍhe |
śravaṇem viṣayāmce oḍhe | tuṭoni jātī
By śravaṇa, clear-understanding grows; by śravaṇa, prajñā rises; by śravaṇa, the currents of sense-objects are cut.
श्रवणें विचार कळे । श्रवणें ज्ञान हें प्रबळे ।
श्रवणें वस्तु निवळे । साधकांसी
śravaṇem vicāra kaḷe | śravaṇem jñāna hem prabaḷe |
śravaṇem vastu nivaḷe | sādhakāmsī
By śravaṇa, reasoning is understood; by śravaṇa, jñāna strengthens; by śravaṇa, the substance becomes clear — to seekers.
श्रवणें सद्बुद्धि लागे । श्रवणें विवेक जागे ।
श्रवणें मन हें मागे । भगवंतासी
śravaṇem sadbuddhi lāge | śravaṇem viveka jāge |
śravaṇem mana hem māge | bhagavamtāsī
By śravaṇa, good-intellect clings; by śravaṇa, viveka awakens; by śravaṇa, the mind asks — for Bhagavān.
श्रवणें कुसंग तुटे । श्रवणें काम ओहटे ।
श्रवणें धोका आटे । एकसरां
śravaṇem kusamga tuṭe | śravaṇem kāma ohaṭe |
śravaṇem dhokā āṭe | ekasarām
By śravaṇa, bad company breaks; by śravaṇa, kāma subsides; by śravaṇa, danger wanes — at once.
श्रवणें मोह नासे । श्रवणें स्फूर्ति प्रकाशे ।
श्रवणें सद्वस्तु भासे । निश्चयात्मक
śravaṇem moha nāse | śravaṇem sphūrti prakāśe |
śravaṇem sadvastu bhāse | niścayātmaka
By śravaṇa, delusion perishes; by śravaṇa, inspiration shines; by śravaṇa, the true substance appears — definitely.
श्रवणें होय उत्तम गती । श्रवणें आतुडे शांती ।
श्रवणें पाविजे निवृत्ती । अचळपद
śravaṇem hoya uttama gatī | śravaṇem ātuḍe śāmtī |
śravaṇem pāvije nivṛttī | acaḷapada
By śravaṇa, the highest state; by śravaṇa, peace is gained; by śravaṇa, nivṛtti is attained — the unchanging pada.
श्रवणा-ऐसें सार नाहीं । श्रवणें घडे सर्व कांहीं ।
भवनदीच्या प्रवाहीं । तरणोपाय श्रवणें
śravaṇā-aisem sāra nāhīm | śravaṇem ghaḍe sarva kāmhīm |
bhavanadīcyā pravāhīm | taraṇopāya śravaṇem
There is no essence like śravaṇa; by śravaṇa all happens; in the river of becoming — śravaṇa is the crossing-means.
श्रवण भजनाचा आरंभ । श्रवण सर्वीं सर्वारंभ ।
श्रवणें होय स्वयंभ । सर्व कांहीं
śravaṇa bhajanācā ārambha | śravaṇa sarvīm sarvārambha |
śravaṇem hoya svayambha | sarva kāmhīm
Śravaṇa is the beginning of bhajana; śravaṇa is the beginning of all undertakings; by śravaṇa, all becomes self-arising.
प्रवृत्ति अथवा निवृत्ति । श्रवणेंविण न घडे प्राप्ती ।
हे तों सकळांस प्रचीती । प्रत्यक्ष आहे
pravṛtti athavā nivṛtti | śravaṇemviṇa na ghaḍe prāptī |
he tom sakaḷāmsa pracītī | pratyakṣa āhe
Whether pravṛtti or nivṛtti, without śravaṇa no attainment; this is direct-evidence to all — visibly.
ऐकिल्याविण कळेना । हें ठाउकें आहे जनां ।
त्याकारणें मूळ प्रयत्ना । श्रवण आधीं
aikilyāviṇa kaḷenā | hem ṭhāukem āhe janām |
tyākāraṇem mūḷa prayatnā | śravaṇa ādhīm
Without hearing, it is not understood; this is known to people; therefore the root of effort — is śravaṇa first.
जें जन्मीं ऐकिलेंचि नाहीं । तेथें पडिजे संदेहीं ।
म्हणोनिया दुजें कांहीं । साम्यता न घडे
jem janmīm aikilemci nāhīm | tethem paḍije samdehīm |
mhaṇoniyā dujem kāmhīm | sāmyatā na ghaḍe
What has not been heard in life, one falls into doubt there; therefore no second — has its sameness.
बहुत साधनें पाहतां । श्रवणास न घडे साम्यता ।
श्रवणेंविण तत्त्वता । कार्य न चले
bahuta sādhanem pāhatām | śravaṇāsa na ghaḍe sāmyatā |
śravaṇemviṇa tattvatā | kārya na cale
Looking at many sādhanas, none has the sameness of śravaṇa; without śravaṇa in truth — the task does not move.
न देखतां दिनकर । पडे अवघा अंधकार ।
श्रवणेंविण प्रकार । तैसा होय
na dekhatām dinakara | paḍe avaghā amdhakāra |
śravaṇemviṇa prakāra | taisā hoya
Without seeing the sun, whole darkness falls; without śravaṇa, the manner becomes so.
कैशी नवविधा भक्ती । कैशी चतुर्विधा मुक्ती ।
कैशी आहे सहजस्थिती । हें श्रवणेंविण न कळे
kaiśī navavidhā bhaktī | kaiśī caturvidhā muktī |
kaiśī āhe sahajasthitī | hem śravaṇemviṇa na kaḷe
How is nine-fold bhakti? How four-fold mukti? How is sahaja-sthiti? Without śravaṇa this is not known.
न कळे षट्कर्माचरण । न कळे कैसें पुरश्चरण ।
न कळे कैसें उपासन । विधियुक्त
na kaḷe ṣaṭkarmācaraṇa | na kaḷe kaisem puraścaraṇa |
na kaḷe kaisem upāsana | vidhiyukta
Not known: the practice of the six karmas; how puraścaraṇa is done; how upāsanā is done by rule.
नाना व्रतें नाना दानें । नाना तपें नाना साधनें ।
नाना योग तीर्थाटणें । श्रवणेंविण न कळती
nānā vratem nānā dānem | nānā tapem nānā sādhanem |
nānā yoga tīrthāṭaṇem | śravaṇemviṇa na kaḷatī
Many vratas, many dānas; many austerities, many sādhanas; many yogas, pilgrimages — without śravaṇa are not known.
नाना विद्या पिंडज्ञान । नाना तत्त्वांचें शोधन ।
नाना कळा ब्रह्मज्ञान । श्रवणेंविण न कळे
nānā vidyā pimḍajñāna | nānā tattvāmcem śodhana |
nānā kaḷā brahmajñāna | śravaṇemviṇa na kaḷe
Many sciences, body-knowledge; the investigation of many tattvas; many arts, brahma-jñāna — without śravaṇa are not known.
अठरा भार वनस्पती । एक्या जळें प्रबळती ।
एक्या रसें उत्पत्ती । सकळ जीवांची
aṭharā bhāra vanaspatī | ekyā jaḷem prabaḷatī |
ekyā rasem utpattī | sakaḷa jīvāmcī
Eighteen loads of vegetation grow by one water; from one juice, the origin of all beings.
सकळ जीवांस एक पृथ्वी । सकळ जीवांस एक रवी ।
सकळ जीवांस वर्तवी । एक वायु
sakaḷa jīvāmsa eka pṛthvī | sakaḷa jīvāmsa eka ravī |
sakaḷa jīvāmsa vartavī | eka vāyu
One earth for all beings; one sun for all beings; one wind sets all beings in motion.
सकळ जीवांस एक पैस । जयास बोलिजे आकाश ।
सकळ जीवांचा वास । एक परब्रह्मीं
sakaḷa jīvāmsa eka paisa | jayāsa bolije ākāśa |
sakaḷa jīvāmcā vāsa | eka parabrahmīm
One vast-space for all beings — called the sky; all beings' dwelling — is one Parabrahman.
तैसें सकळ जीवांस मिळोन । सार एकचि साधन ।
तें हें जाण श्रवण । प्राणिमात्रांसीं
taisem sakaḷa jīvāmsa miḷona | sāra ekaci sādhana |
tem hem jāṇa śravaṇa | prāṇimātrāmsīm
Thus for all beings combined, the essential sādhana is one — that, know, as śravaṇa — for every creature.
नाना देश भाषा मतें । भूमंडळीं असंख्यातें ।
सर्वांस श्रवणापरतें । साधनचि नाहीं
nānā deśa bhāṣā matem | bhūmamḍaḷīm asamkhyātem |
sarvāmsa śravaṇāparatem | sādhanaci nāhīm
Many countries, languages, doctrines — countless on the earth; for all, there is no sādhana — other than śravaṇa.
श्रवणें घडे उपरती । बद्धाचे मुमुक्षु होती ।
मुमुक्षूचे साधक अती । नेमेंसिं चालती
śravaṇem ghaḍe uparatī | baddhāce mumukṣu hotī |
mumukṣūce sādhaka atī | nememsim cālatī
By śravaṇa, turning-away happens; the bound become mumukṣu; mumukṣus become sādhaka extremely — walking with firmness.
साधकांचे होति सिद्ध । अंगीं बाणतां प्रबोध ।
हें तों आहे प्रसिद्ध । सकळांस ठाउकें
sādhakāmce hoti siddha | amgīm bāṇatām prabodha |
hem tom āhe prasiddha | sakaḷāmsa ṭhāukem
Sādhakas become siddhas, when awakening ingrains in the body; this is famous — known to all.
ठायींचे खळ चांडाळ । तेचि होती पुण्यशीळ ।
ऐसा गुण तात्काळ । श्रवणाचा
ṭhāyīmce khaḷa cāmḍāḷa | teci hotī puṇyaśīḷa |
aisā guṇa tātkāḷa | śravaṇācā
Those originally wicked and caṇḍāla become merit-disciplined; such is the immediate virtue of śravaṇa.
जो दुर्बुद्धि दुरात्मा । तोचि होय पुण्यात्मा ।
अगाध श्रवणाचा महिमा । बोलिला न वचे
jo durbuddhi durātmā | toci hoya puṇyātmā |
agādha śravaṇācā mahimā | bolilā na vace
He who is evil-minded, wicked-souled, becomes a merit-souled one; the deep glory of śravaṇa — cannot be spoken.
तीर्थव्रतांची फळश्रुती । पुढें होणार सांगती ।
तैसें नव्हे हातींच्या हातीं । सप्रचीत श्रवणें
tīrthavratāmcī phaḷaśrutī | puḍhem hoṇāra sāmgatī |
taisem navhe hātīmcyā hātīm | sapracīta śravaṇem
The fruit-declarations of pilgrimages and vratas say 'will happen in the future'; not so — hand-to-hand, directly evidenced by śravaṇa.
नाना रोग नाना व्याधी । तत्काळ तोडिजे औषधी ।
तैशी आहे श्रवणसिद्धी । अनुभवी जाणती
nānā roga nānā vyādhī | tatkāḷa toḍije auṣadhī |
taiśī āhe śravaṇasiddhī | anubhavī jāṇatī
Many diseases, many illnesses — instantly cut by medicine; so is the siddhi of śravaṇa — experiencers know.
श्रवणाचा विचार कळे । तरीच भाग्यश्री प्रबळे ।
मुख्य परमात्मा आकळे । स्वानुभवासी
śravaṇācā vicāra kaḷe | tarīca bhāgyaśrī prabaḷe |
mukhya paramātmā ākaḷe | svānubhavāsī
If the reasoning of śravaṇa is understood, only then does *bhāgya-śrī* strengthen; the chief Paramātmā is grasped — by sva-anubhava.
या नांव जाणावें मनन । अर्थालागीं सावधान ।
निदिध्यासें समाधान । होत असे
yā nāmva jāṇāvem manana | arthālāgīm sāvadhāna |
nididhyāsem samādhāna | hota ase
This is called *manana* — attentive to meaning; by *nididhyāsa*, composure happens.
बोलिल्याचा अर्थ कळे । तरीच समाधान निवळे ।
अकस्मात अंतरीं वोळे । निःसंदेह
bolilyācā artha kaḷe | tarīca samādhāna nivaḷe |
akasmāta amtarīm voḷe | niḥsamdeha
If the meaning of what is spoken is understood, only then composure becomes clear; suddenly inwardly it bends — doubt-free.
संदेह जन्माचें मूळ । तें श्रवणें होय निर्मूळ ।
पुढें सहजचि प्रांजळ । समाधान
samdeha janmācem mūḷa | tem śravaṇem hoya nirmūḷa |
puḍhem sahajaci prāmjaḷa | samādhāna
Doubt is the root of birth; it is uprooted by śravaṇa; next spontaneously clear — composure.
जेथें नाहीं श्रवण मनन । तेथें कैंचें समाधान ।
मुक्तपणाचें बंधन । जडलें पायीं
jethem nāhīm śravaṇa manana | tethem kaimcem samādhāna |
muktapaṇācem bamdhana | jaḍalem pāyīm
Where there is no śravaṇa and manana — where is composure? The bondage of mukta-ness — has clung to the feet.
मुमुक्षु साधक अथवा सिद्ध । श्रवणेंविण तो बद्ध ।
श्रवणमननें शुद्ध । चित्तवृत्ति होय
mumukṣu sādhaka athavā siddha | śravaṇemviṇa to baddha |
śravaṇamananem śuddha | cittavṛtti hoya
Mumukṣu, sādhaka, or siddha — without śravaṇa, he is bound; by śravaṇa-manana, citta-vṛtti becomes pure.
जेथें नाहीं नित्य श्रवण । तें जाणावें विलक्षण ।
तेथें साधकें एक क्षण । क्रमूं नये सर्वथा
jethem nāhīm nitya śravaṇa | tem jāṇāvem vilakṣaṇa |
tethem sādhakem eka kṣaṇa | kramūm naye sarvathā
Where there is no daily śravaṇa — know that as odd; there, the sādhaka should not pass even one moment at all.
जेथें नाहीं श्रवणस्वार्थ । तेथें कैंचा हो परमार्थ ।
मागें केलें तितुकें व्यर्थ । श्रवणेंविण होय
jethem nāhīm śravaṇasvārtha | tethem kaimcā ho paramārtha |
māgem kelem titukem vyartha | śravaṇemviṇa hoya
Where there is no śravaṇa-self-interest, where is paramārtha there? All that was done before becomes vain — without śravaṇa.
तस्मात् श्रवण करावें । साधन मनीं धरावें ।
नित्य नेमें तरावें । संसारसागरीं
tasmāt śravaṇa karāvem | sādhana manīm dharāvem |
nitya nemem tarāvem | samsārasāgarīm
Therefore one should do śravaṇa; should hold the sādhana in mind; by daily rule, cross the samsāra-ocean.
सेविलेंचि सेवावें अन्न । घेतलेंचि घ्यावें जीवन ।
तैसें श्रवण मनन । केलेंचि करावें
sevilemci sevāvem anna | ghetalemci ghyāvem jīvana |
taisem śravaṇa manana | kelemci karāvem
Eaten food should be eaten again; taken water should be taken again; so śravaṇa-manana — done again-and-again.
श्रवणाचा अनादर । आळस करी जो नर ।
त्याचा होय अपहार । स्वहिताविषयीं
śravaṇācā anādara | āḷasa karī jo nara |
tyācā hoya apahāra | svahitāviṣayīm
One who disregards śravaṇa, who is lazy — he causes his own good's destruction.
आळसाचें संरक्षण । परमार्थाची बुडवण ।
याकारणें नित्य श्रवण । केलेंचि पाहिजे
āḷasācem samrakṣaṇa | paramārthācī buḍavaṇa |
yākāraṇem nitya śravaṇa | kelemci pāhije
Laziness's protection is the drowning of paramārtha; therefore daily śravaṇa — should be done.
आतां श्रवण कैसें करावें । कोण्या ग्रंथास पाहावें ।
पुढिलिये समासीं आघवें । सांगिजेल
ātām śravaṇa kaisem karāvem | koṇyā gramthāsa pāhāvem |
puḍhiliye samāsīm āghavem | sāmgijela
