केवळ मूर्ख तें नेणे । म्हणौन घडलें सांगणे ।
पंचभूतांचीं लक्षणें । विशद करूनि
kevaḷa mūrkha tem neṇe | mhaṇauna ghaḍalem sāmgaṇe |
pamcabhūtāmcīm lakṣaṇem | viśada karūni
A fool does not know it; therefore the telling has happened; the signs of the five elements — clearly explained.
पंचभूतांचा कर्दम जाला । आतां न वचे वेगळा केला ।
परंतु कांहीं येक वेगळाला । करून दाऊं
pamcabhūtāmcā kardama jālā | ātām na vace vegaḷā kelā |
paramtu kāmhīm yeka vegaḷālā | karūna dāūm
The mud of the five elements has occurred; now it cannot be separated; but some of it separately — will be shown.
पर्वत पाषाण शिळा शिखरें । नाना वर्णें लहान थोरें ।
खडे गुंडे बहुत प्रकारें । जाणिजे पृथ्वी
parvata pāṣāṇa śiḷā śikharem | nānā varṇem lahāna thorem |
khaḍe gumḍe bahuta prakārem | jāṇije pṛthvī
Mountains, rocks, slabs, peaks; of many colors, small and great; pebbles, small stones, many kinds — know as earth.
नाना रंगांची मृत्तिका । नाना स्थळोस्थळीं जे कां ।
वाळुकें वाळु अनेका । मिळोन पृथ्वी
nānā ramgāmcī mṛttikā | nānā sthaḷosthaḷīm je kām |
vāḷukem vāḷu anekā | miḷona pṛthvī
Clays of many colors; at various places; sand of many kinds combined — earth.
पुरें पट्टणें मनोहरें । नाना मंदिरें दामोदरें ।
नाना देवाळयें शिखरें । मिळोन पृथ्वी
purem paṭṭaṇem manoharem | nānā mamdirem dāmodarem |
nānā devāḷayem śikharem | miḷona pṛthvī
Charming towns, cities; many houses, dāmodara-temples; many temple-spires combined — earth.
सप्त द्वीपावती पृथ्वी । काये म्हणोनि सांगावी ।
नव खंडे मिळोन जाणावी । वसुंधरा
sapta dvīpāvatī pṛthvī | kāye mhaṇoni sāmgāvī |
nava khamḍe miḷona jāṇāvī | vasumdharā
The seven-continent earth — how to describe it? Nine regions combined — know as Vasundharā.
नाना देव नाना नृपती । नाना भाषा नाना रिती ।
लक्ष चौर्यासी उत्पत्ती । मिळोन पृथ्वी
nānā deva nānā nṛpatī | nānā bhāṣā nānā ritī |
lakṣa cauryāsī utpattī | miḷona pṛthvī
Many devas, kings; many languages, many customs; eighty-four lakh origins combined — earth.
नाना उद्वसें जें वनें । नाना तरुवरांचीं बनें ।
गिरीकंदरें नाना स्थानें । मिळोन पृथ्वी
nānā udvasem jem vanem | nānā taruvarāmcīm banem |
girīkamdarem nānā sthānem | miḷona pṛthvī
Many desolate forests; many groves of trees; mountain-caves, many places combined — earth.
नाना रचना केली देवीं । जे जे निर्मिली मानवी ।
सकळ मिळोन पृथ्वी । जाणिजें श्रोतीं
nānā racanā kelī devīm | je je nirmilī mānavī |
sakaḷa miḷona pṛthvī | jāṇijem śrotīm
Many constructions by devas; and whatever was created by humans; all combined — listeners know — is earth.
नाना धातु सुवर्णादिक । नाना रत्नें जे अनेक ।
नाना काष्ठवृक्षादिक । मिळोन पृथ्वी
nānā dhātu suvarṇādika | nānā ratnem je aneka |
nānā kāṣṭhavṛkṣādika | miḷona pṛthvī
Many metals, gold and others; many jewels of various kinds; many woods, trees combined — earth.
आतां असो हें बहुवस । जडांश आणी कठिणांश ।
सकळ पृथ्वी हा विश्वास । मानिला पाहिजे
ātām aso hem bahuvasa | jaḍāmśa āṇī kaṭhiṇāmśa |
sakaḷa pṛthvī hā viśvāsa | mānilā pāhije
Enough at length; the heavy part and hard part; all this should be believed — as earth.
बोलिलें पृथ्वीचे रूप । आतां सांगिजेल आप ।
श्रोतीं वोळखावें रूप । सावध होऊनी
bolilem pṛthvīce rūpa | ātām sāmgijela āpa |
śrotīm voḷakhāvem rūpa | sāvadha hoūnī
The form of earth has been spoken; now water will be told; listeners — recognize its form attentively.
वापी कूप सरोवर । नाना सरितांचें जें नीर ।
मेघ आणी सप्त सागर । मिळोन आप
vāpī kūpa sarovara | nānā saritāmcem jem nīra |
megha āṇī sapta sāgara | miḷona āpa
Step-wells, wells, ponds; the waters of many rivers; clouds and the seven oceans combined — water.
॥ श्लोकार्ध - क्षारक्षीरसुरासर्पिर्दधि इक्षुर्जलं तथा ॥
क्षारसमुद्र दिसताहे । सकळ जन दृष्टीस पाहे ।
जेथें लवण होताहे । तोचि क्षारसिंधु
|| ślokārdha - kṣārakṣīrasurāsarpirdadhi ikṣurjalam tathā ||
kṣārasamudra disatāhe | sakaḷa jana dṛṣṭīsa pāhe |
jethem lavaṇa hotāhe | toci kṣārasimdhu
[Śloka] 'kṣāra-kṣīra-surā-sarpiḥ dadhi ikṣuḥ jalam tathā' — the salt-ocean is visible; all people see it with their eyes; where salt is formed — that is the salt-sea.
येक दुधाचा सागर । त्या नाव क्षीरसागर ।
देवें दिधला निरंतर । उपमन्यासी
yeka dudhācā sāgara | tyā nāva kṣīrasāgara |
devem didhalā niramtara | upamanyāsī
One sea of milk — its name is *kṣīra-sāgara*; continuously given by God — to Upamanyu.
येक समुद्र मद्याचा । येक जाणावा घृताचा ।
येक निखळ दह्याचा । समुद्र असे
yeka samudra madyācā | yeka jāṇāvā ghṛtācā |
yeka nikhaḷa dahyācā | samudra ase
One sea of wine; one to be known as of ghee; one purely of curd — is an ocean.
येक उसाच्या रसाचा । येक तो शुद्ध जळाचा ।
ऐसा सातां समुद्राचा । वेढा पृथ्वीयेसी
yeka usācyā rasācā | yeka to śuddha jaḷācā |
aisā sātām samudrācā | veḍhā pṛthvīyesī
One of sugarcane juice; one of pure water; thus seven seas — surround the earth.
एवं भूमंडळीचें जळ । नाना स्थळींचें सकळ ।
मिळोन अवघें केवळ । आप जाणावें
evam bhūmamḍaḷīcem jaḷa | nānā sthaḷīmcem sakaḷa |
miḷona avaghem kevaḷa | āpa jāṇāvem
Thus water on the earth — of many places — all combined — know purely as water.
पृथ्वीगर्भीं कितीयेक । पृथ्वीतळीं आवर्णोदक ।
तिहीं लोकींचें उदक । मिळोन आप
pṛthvīgarbhīm kitīyeka | pṛthvītaḷīm āvarṇodaka |
tihīm lokīmcem udaka | miḷona āpa
How many within the earth's belly? Beneath the earth is the covering-water; water of the three worlds combined — water.
नाना वल्ली बहुवस । नाना तरुवरांचे रस ।
मधु पारा अमृत विष । मिळोन आप
nānā vallī bahuvasa | nānā taruvarāmce rasa |
madhu pārā amṛta viṣa | miḷona āpa
Many creepers, many; juices of many trees; honey, mercury, nectar, poison — combined — water.
नाना रस स्नेहादिक । याहि वेगळे अनेक ।
जगावेगळे अवश्यक । आप बोलिजे
nānā rasa snehādika | yāhi vegaḷe aneka |
jagāvegaḷe avaśyaka | āpa bolije
Many juices, oils and such; and many others; apart from the world's [waters], necessarily — these are called water.
सारद्र आणी सीतळ । जळासारिखें पातळ ।
शुक्लीत शोणीत मूत्र लाळ । आप बोलिजे
sāradra āṇī sītaḷa | jaḷāsārikhem pātaḷa |
śuklīta śoṇīta mūtra lāḷa | āpa bolije
Moist and cool, fluid like water; semen, blood, urine, saliva — are called water.
आप संकेतें जाणावें । पातळ बोलें वोळखावें ।
मृद सीतळ स्वभावें । आप बोलिजे
āpa samketem jāṇāvem | pātaḷa bolem voḷakhāvem |
mṛda sītaḷa svabhāvem | āpa bolije
Water should be known by convention; by 'fluid' word recognized; soft and cool by nature — is called water.
जाला आपाचा संकेत । पातळ मृद गुळगुळित ।
स्वेद श्लेष्मा अश्रु समस्त । आप जाणावें
jālā āpācā samketa | pātaḷa mṛda guḷaguḷita |
sveda śleṣmā aśru samasta | āpa jāṇāvem
The convention of water is made: fluid, soft, slippery; sweat, phlegm, tears — all — know as water.
तेज ऐका सावधपणें । चंद्र सूर्य तारांगणें ।
दिव्य देह सतेजपणें । तेज बोलिजे
teja aikā sāvadhapaṇem | camdra sūrya tārāmgaṇem |
divya deha satejapaṇem | teja bolije
Hear of fire attentively: moon, sun, constellations; divine bodies by radiance — are called fire.
वन्ही मेघीं विद्युल्यता । वन्ही सृष्टी संव्हारिता ।
वन्ही सागरा जाळिता । वडवानळु
vanhī meghīm vidyulyatā | vanhī sṛṣṭī samvhāritā |
vanhī sāgarā jāḷitā | vaḍavānaḷu
Fire in clouds as lightning; fire as sṛṣṭi-destroyer; fire burning the ocean — *vaḍavānala* (undersea-fire).
वन्ही शंकराचे नेत्रींचा । वन्ही काळाचे क्षुधेचा ।
वन्ही परीघ भूगोळाचा । तेज बोलिजे
vanhī śamkarāce netrīmcā | vanhī kāḷāce kṣudhecā |
vanhī parīgha bhūgoḷācā | teja bolije
Fire in Śankara's eye; fire in the hunger of Time; fire around the earth-sphere — is called fire.
जें जें प्रकाश रूप । तें तें तेजाचें स्वरूप ।
शोषक उष्णादि आरोप । तेज जाणावे
jem jem prakāśa rūpa | tem tem tejācem svarūpa |
śoṣaka uṣṇādi āropa | teja jāṇāve
Whatever is light-form — is the svarūpa of fire; drying, heating, etc. — know as fire.
वायो जाणावा चंचळ । चैतन्य चेतवी केवळ ।
बोलणें चालणें सकळ । वायुमुळें
vāyo jāṇāvā camcaḷa | caitanya cetavī kevaḷa |
bolaṇem cālaṇem sakaḷa | vāyumuḷem
Wind should be known as fickle; animates consciousness purely; all speaking and walking — is due to wind.
हाले डोले तितुका पवन । कांहीं न चले पवनेंविण ।
सृष्टी चाळाया कारण । मूळ तो वायो
hāle ḍole titukā pavana | kāmhīm na cale pavanemviṇa |
sṛṣṭī cāḷāyā kāraṇa | mūḷa to vāyo
Whatever moves and sways is wind; nothing moves without wind; the cause of the sṛṣṭi's motion — is the root wind.
चळण वळण आणी प्रासारण । निरोध आणी अकोचन ।
सकळ जाणावा पवन , चंचळरूपी
caḷaṇa vaḷaṇa āṇī prāsāraṇa | nirodha āṇī akocana |
sakaḷa jāṇāvā pavana , camcaḷarūpī
Motion, turning, expansion; restraint and contraction — all know as wind — of fickle-form.
प्राण अपान आणी व्यान । चौथा उदान आणी समान ।
नाग कुर्म कर्कश जाण । देवदत्त धनंजये
prāṇa apāna āṇī vyāna | cauthā udāna āṇī samāna |
nāga kurma karkaśa jāṇa | devadatta dhanamjaye
Prāṇa, apāna, vyāna; fourth udāna, and samāna; nāga, kūrma, harsh-kṛkala — know; deva-datta, dhanañjaya.
जितुकें कांहीं होतें चळण । तितुकें वायोचें लक्षण ।
च्ंद्र सूर्य तारांगण । वायोचि धर्ता
jitukem kāmhīm hotem caḷaṇa | titukem vāyocem lakṣaṇa |
cmdra sūrya tārāmgaṇa | vāyoci dhartā
Whatever motion there is — that is the sign of wind; moon, sun, constellations — wind itself holds.
आकाश जाणावें पोकळ । निर्मळ आणी निश्चळ ।
अवकाशरूप सकळ । आकाश जाणावें
ākāśa jāṇāvem pokaḷa | nirmaḷa āṇī niścaḷa |
avakāśarūpa sakaḷa | ākāśa jāṇāvem
Sky, know as hollow; pure and unmoving; all of space-form — know as sky.
आकाश सकळांस व्यापक । आकाश अनेकीं येक ।
आकाशामध्यें कौतुक । चहूं भूतांचे
ākāśa sakaḷāmsa vyāpaka | ākāśa anekīm yeka |
ākāśāmadhyem kautuka | cahūm bhūtāmce
Sky pervades all; sky is one in many; in sky is the wonder — of four elements.
आकाशा ऐसें नाहीं सार । आकाश सकळांहून थोर ।
पाहातां आकाशाचा विचार । स्वरूपासारिखा
ākāśā aisem nāhīm sāra | ākāśa sakaḷāmhūna thora |
pāhātām ākāśācā vicāra | svarūpāsārikhā
Nothing is as essential as sky; sky is greater than all; examining sky's reasoning — similar to svarūpa.
तव शिष्यें केला आक्षेप । दोहीचें सारखेंचि रूप ।
तरी आकाशचि स्वरूप । कां म्हणो नये
tava śiṣyem kelā ākṣepa | dohīcem sārakhemci rūpa |
tarī ākāśaci svarūpa | kām mhaṇo naye
Then the disciple objects: both have similar form; then why not call sky itself — svarūpa?
आकाश स्वरुपा कोण भेद । पाहातां दिसेती अभेद ।
आकाश वस्तुच स्वतसिद्ध । कां न म्हणावी
ākāśa svarupā koṇa bheda | pāhātām disetī abheda |
ākāśa vastuca svatasiddha | kām na mhaṇāvī
What difference between sky and svarūpa? On examination they appear non-different; the sky is self-evident substance — why not call [it that]?
वस्तु अचळ अढळ । वस्तु निर्मळ निश्चळ ।
तैसेंचि आकाश केवळ । वस्तुसारिखें
vastu acaḷa aḍhaḷa | vastu nirmaḷa niścaḷa |
taisemci ākāśa kevaḷa | vastusārikhem
The substance is unmoving, un-swaying; pure, still; similarly the sky purely — [resembles] the substance.
ऐकोनि वक्ता बोले वचन । वस्तु निर्गुण पुरातन ।
आकाशाआंगी सप्त गुण । शास्त्रीं निरोपिलें
aikoni vaktā bole vacana | vastu nirguṇa purātana |
ākāśāāmgī sapta guṇa | śāstrīm niropilem
Hearing this, the speaker utters: the substance is nirguṇa, ancient; in the sky are seven qualities — expounded in the śāstras.
काम क्रोध शोक मोहो । भय अज्ञान सुन्यत्व पाहो ।
ऐसा सप्तविध स्वभाव । आकाशाचा
kāma krodha śoka moho | bhaya ajñāna sunyatva pāho |
aisā saptavidha svabhāva | ākāśācā
Kāma, krodha, śoka, moha; bhaya, ajñāna, śūnyatā, see — such seven-fold nature is — of the sky.
ऐसें शात्राकारें बोलिलें । म्हणोनि आकाश भूत जालें ।
स्वरूप निर्विकार संचलें । उपमेरहित
aisem śātrākārem bolilem | mhaṇoni ākāśa bhūta jālem |
svarūpa nirvikāra samcalem | upamerahita
This is spoken by the śāstra-writers; therefore sky is an element; svarūpa is unchanging, packed — without simile.
काचबंदि आणी जळ । सारिखेंच वाटे सकळ ।
परी येक काच येक जळ । शाहाणे जाणती
kācabamdi āṇī jaḷa | sārikhemca vāṭe sakaḷa |
parī yeka kāca yeka jaḷa | śāhāṇe jāṇatī
Glass-jar and water — all seem similar; but one is glass, one is water — the wise know.
रुवामधें स्फटिक पडिला । लोकीं तद्रूप देखिला ।
तेणें कपाळमोक्ष जाला । कापुस न करी
ruvāmadhem sphaṭika paḍilā | lokīm tadrūpa dekhilā |
teṇem kapāḷamokṣa jālā | kāpusa na karī
In cotton a crystal fell; people saw it as same-form; by that, head-breakage happened — cotton does not.
तदुलामधें श्वेत खडे । तंदुलासारिखें वांकुडे ।
चाऊं जाता दांत पडे । तेव्हां कळे
tadulāmadhem śveta khaḍe | tamdulāsārikhem vāmkuḍe |
cāūm jātā dāmta paḍe | tevhām kaḷe
In rice, white pebbles — resemble rice; on chewing, teeth fall; then it is known.
त्रिभागामधें खडा असे । त्रिभागासारिखाच भासे ।
शोधूं जातां वेगळा दिसे । कठिणपणें
tribhāgāmadhem khaḍā ase | tribhāgāsārikhāca bhāse |
śodhūm jātām vegaḷā dise | kaṭhiṇapaṇem
Within a three-portion, there is a pebble; appears like the three-portion; on examining, it appears separate — by its hardness.
गुळासारिखा गुळदगड । परी तो कठिण निचाड ।
नागकांडी आणी वेखंड । येक म्हणो नये
guḷāsārikhā guḷadagaḍa | parī to kaṭhiṇa nicāḍa |
nāgakāmḍī āṇī vekhamḍa | yeka mhaṇo naye
A jaggery-rock like jaggery, but it is hard, rough; *nāga-kāṇḍī* and *vekhaṇḍa* — should not be called one.
सोनें आणी सोनपितळ । येकचि वाटती केवळ ।
परी पितळेंसी मिळतां ज्वाळ । काळिमा चढे
sonem āṇī sonapitaḷa | yekaci vāṭatī kevaḷa |
parī pitaḷemsī miḷatām jvāḷa | kāḷimā caḍhe
Gold and gilt-brass — feel purely one; but when brass meets fire — blackness climbs.
असो हे हीन दृष्टांत । आकाश म्हणिजे केवळ भूत ।
तें भूत आणी अनंत । येक कैसे
aso he hīna dṛṣṭāmta | ākāśa mhaṇije kevaḷa bhūta |
tem bhūta āṇī anamta | yeka kaise
Enough — these are low examples; sky means purely element; that element and Ananta — how are they one?
वस्तुसी वर्णचि नसे । आकाश शामवर्ण असे ।
दोहींस साम्यता कैसे । करिती विचक्षण
vastusī varṇaci nase | ākāśa śāmavarṇa ase |
dohīmsa sāmyatā kaise | karitī vicakṣaṇa
The substance has no color; sky is dark-colored; how can the discerning make sameness of the two?
श्रोते म्हणती कैंचें रूप । आकाश ठांईचे अरूप ।
आकाश वस्तुच तद्रूप । भेद नाहीं
śrote mhaṇatī kaimcem rūpa | ākāśa ṭhāmīce arūpa |
ākāśa vastuca tadrūpa | bheda nāhīm
Listeners say: what form [does sky have]? The sky is formless at root; sky is the substance itself *tad-rūpa* — no difference.
चहूं भूतांस नाश आहे । आकाश कैसें नासताहे ।
आकाशास न साहे । वर्ण वेक्ती विकार
cahūm bhūtāmsa nāśa āhe | ākāśa kaisem nāsatāhe |
ākāśāsa na sāhe | varṇa vektī vikāra
The four elements have destruction; how does sky perish? Sky does not accept color-manifestation-distortion.
आकाश अचळ दिसतें । त्याचें काये नासों पाहातें ।
पाहातां आमुचेनि मतें । आकाश शाश्वत
ākāśa acaḷa disatem | tyācem kāye nāsom pāhātem |
pāhātām āmuceni matem | ākāśa śāśvata
Sky appears unmoving; what of it can perish? In our opinion, looking — sky is eternal.
ऐसे ऐकोन वचन । वक्ता बोले प्रतिवचन ।
ऐक आतां लक्षण । आकाशाचें
aise aikona vacana | vaktā bole prativacana |
aika ātām lakṣaṇa | ākāśācem
Hearing such speech, the speaker gives a reply; now listen — the sign of the sky.
आकाश तमापासून जालें । म्हणोन काम क्रोधें वेष्टिलें ।
अज्ञान सुन्यत्व बोलिलें । नाम तयाचें
ākāśa tamāpāsūna jālem | mhaṇona kāma krodhem veṣṭilem |
ajñāna sunyatva bolilem | nāma tayācem
Sky arose from tamas; therefore wrapped by lust-anger; ajñāna-void-ness is its name.
अज्ञानें कामक्रोधादिक । मोहो भये आणी शोक ।
हा अज्ञानाचा विवेक । आकाशागुणें
ajñānem kāmakrodhādika | moho bhaye āṇī śoka |
hā ajñānācā viveka | ākāśāguṇem
By ajñāna, lust-anger and so on; delusion, fear, grief — this is the discernment of ajñāna — by sky-quality.
नास्तिक नकारवचन । तें सुन्याचें लक्षण ।
तयास म्हणती ह्रुदयसुन्य । अज्ञान प्राणी
nāstika nakāravacana | tem sunyācem lakṣaṇa |
tayāsa mhaṇatī hrudayasunya | ajñāna prāṇī
*Nāstika* is the nay-saying utterance; that is the sign of void; him they call heart-empty (hṛdaya-śūnya) — the ignorant creature.
आकाश स्तब्धपणें सुन्य । सुन्य म्हणिजे तें अज्ञान ।
अज्ञान म्हणिजे कठिण । रूप तयाचें
ākāśa stabdhapaṇem sunya | sunya mhaṇije tem ajñāna |
ajñāna mhaṇije kaṭhiṇa | rūpa tayācem
Sky in stillness is void; void means ajñāna; ajñāna means hard — is its form.
कठिण सुन्य विकारवंत । तयास कैसें म्हणावें संत ।
मनास वाटे हें तद्वत । आहाच दृष्टीं
kaṭhiṇa sunya vikāravamta | tayāsa kaisem mhaṇāvem samta |
manāsa vāṭe hem tadvata | āhāca dṛṣṭīm
Hard-void is full of distortion; how can it be called a saint? The mind feels [them] so similar — in casual view.
अज्ञान कालवलें आकाशीं । तया कर्दमा ज्ञान नासी ।
म्हणोनिया आकाशासी । नाश आहे
ajñāna kālavalem ākāśīm | tayā kardamā jñāna nāsī |
mhaṇoniyā ākāśāsī | nāśa āhe
Ajñāna is mixed in the sky; jñāna destroys that mud; therefore sky has — destruction.
तैसें आकाश आणी स्वरूप । पाहातां वाटती येकरूप ।
परी दोहींमधें विक्षेप । सुन्यत्वाचा
taisem ākāśa āṇī svarūpa | pāhātām vāṭatī yekarūpa |
parī dohīmmadhem vikṣepa | sunyatvācā
So sky and svarūpa — on looking feel one-form; but between the two there is a gap (vikṣepa) — of void-ness.
आहाच पाहातां कल्पेनिसी । सारिखेंच वाटे निश्चयेंसीं ।
परी आकाश स्वरूपासी । भेद नाही
āhāca pāhātām kalpenisī | sārikhemca vāṭe niścayemsīm |
parī ākāśa svarūpāsī | bheda nāhī
Looking casually with imagination, [they] feel the same with certainty; but between sky and svarūpa — no difference [exists].
उन्मनी आणी सुषुप्ति अवस्ता । सारिखेच वाटे तत्वता ।
परी विवंचून पाहों जातां । भेद आहे
unmanī āṇī suṣupti avastā | sārikheca vāṭe tatvatā |
parī vivamcūna pāhom jātām | bheda āhe
*Unmanī* and *suṣupti* states feel similar in truth; but examining — there is difference.
खोटें खर्यासारिखें भाविती । परी परीक्षवंत निवडिती ।
कां कुरंगें देखोन भुलती । मृगजळासी
khoṭem kharyāsārikhem bhāvitī | parī parīkṣavamta nivaḍitī |
kām kuramgem dekhona bhulatī | mṛgajaḷāsī
The false is imagined like the true; but the examiner separates; like a deer confused by seeing — the mirage.
आतां असो हा दृष्टांत । बोलिला कळाया संकेत ।
म्हणौनि भूत आणी अनंत । येक नव्हेती
ātām aso hā dṛṣṭāmta | bolilā kaḷāyā samketa |
mhaṇauni bhūta āṇī anamta | yeka navhetī
Enough this example; it was spoken to make the convention understood; therefore element and Ananta — are not one.
आकाश वेगळेपणें पाहावें । स्वरूपीं स्वरूपचि व्हावें ।
वस्तुचें पाहाणें स्वभावें । ऐसे असे
ākāśa vegaḷepaṇem pāhāvem | svarūpīm svarūpaci vhāvem |
vastucem pāhāṇem svabhāvem | aise ase
Sky should be seen separately; in svarūpa, svarūpa itself — one must become; examining the substance [is done] naturally — thus.
येथें आशंका फिटली । संदेहवृत्ती मावळली ।
भिन्नपणें नवचे अनुभवली । स्वरूपस्थिती
yethem āśamkā phiṭalī | samdehavṛttī māvaḷalī |
bhinnapaṇem navace anubhavalī | svarūpasthitī
Here the objection cleared; doubt-disposition set; through non-difference [was] experienced — svarūpa-sthiti.
आकाश अनुभवा येतें । स्वरूप अनुभवापरतें ।
म्हणोनियां आकाशातें । साम्यता न घडे
ākāśa anubhavā yetem | svarūpa anubhavāparatem |
mhaṇoniyām ākāśātem | sāmyatā na ghaḍe
Sky comes to anubhava; svarūpa is beyond anubhava; therefore with sky — sameness does not happen.
दुग्धासारिखा जळांश । निवडुं जाणती राजहंस ।
तैसें स्वरूप आणी आकाश । संत जाणती
dugdhāsārikhā jaḷāmśa | nivaḍum jāṇatī rājahamsa |
taisem svarūpa āṇī ākāśa | samta jāṇatī
The water-part in milk — is known to separate by the royal swan; so svarūpa and sky — the saints know.
सकळ माया गथागोवी । संतसंगें हें उगवावी ।
पाविजे मोक्षाची पदवी । सत्समागमें
sakaḷa māyā gathāgovī | samtasamgem hem ugavāvī |
pāvije mokṣācī padavī | satsamāgamem
The whole māyā's net — should be untangled by sat-sanga; the rank of mokṣa is attained — by sat-samāgama.
