ऐका प्रळयाचें लक्षण । पिंडीं दोनी प्रळये जाण ।
येकनिद्रा येक मरण । देहांतकाळ
aikā praḷayācem lakṣaṇa | pimḍīm donī praḷaye jāṇa |
yekanidrā yeka maraṇa | dehāmtakāḷa
Hear the mark of pralaya — in the piṇḍa, know two pralayas; / one [is] sleep, one [is] death — at deha-anta-time.
देहाधारक तिनी मूर्ती । निद्रा जेव्हां संपादिती ।
तो निद्राप्रळय श्रोतीं । ब्रह्मांडींचा जाणावा
dehādhāraka tinī mūrtī | nidrā jevhām sampāditī |
to nidrāpraḷaya śrotīm | brahmāmḍīmcā jāṇāvā
The three body-supporting mūrtis, when they obtain sleep — / that is nidrā-pralaya — listeners should know of the brahmāṇḍa.
तिनी मूर्तीस होईल अंत । ब्रह्मांडास मांडेल कल्पांत ।
तेव्हां जाणावा नेमस्त । ब्रह्मप्रळये जाला
tinī mūrtīsa hoīla amta | brahmāmḍāsa māmḍela kalpāmta |
tevhām jāṇāvā nemasta | brahmapraḷaye jālā
The three mūrtis will meet their end; brahmāṇḍa will face kalpānta. / Then, know rigorously — Brahma-pralaya has occurred.
दोनी पिंडीं दोनी ब्रह्मांडीं । च्यारी प्रळय नवखंडीं ।
पांचवा प्रळय उदंडी । जाणिजे विवेकाचा
donī pimḍīm donī brahmāmḍīm | cyārī praḷaya navakhamḍīm |
pāmcavā praḷaya udamḍī | jāṇije vivekācā
Two in piṇḍa, two in brahmāṇḍa — four pralayas in nine-khaṇḍas. / The fifth pralaya, supreme — know as that of vivek.
ऐसे हे पांचहि प्रळये । सांगितले येथान्वयें ।
आतां हें अनुभवास ये । ऐसें करूं
aise he pāmcahi praḷaye | sāmgitale yethānvayem |
ātām hem anubhavāsa ye | aisem karūm
Such are the five pralayas — told in order. / Now let us make this — come into anubhava.
निद्रा जेव्हां संचरे । तेव्हां जागृतीव्यापार सरे ।
सुषुप्ति अथवा स्वप्न भरे । अकस्मात आअंगीं
nidrā jevhām samcare | tevhām jāgṛtīvyāpāra sare |
suṣupti athavā svapna bhare | akasmāta āamgīm
When sleep enters, the jāgṛti-activity ceases; / suṣupti or svapna fills the body — suddenly.
या नांव निद्राप्रळये । जागृतीचा होये क्षये ।
आतां ऐका देहांतसमये । म्हणिजे मृत्युप्रळये
yā nāmva nidrāpraḷaye | jāgṛtīcā hoye kṣaye |
ātām aikā dehāmtasamaye | mhaṇije mṛtyupraḷaye
This is called nidrā-pralaya; the jāgṛti perishes. / Now hear the deha-anta — meaning mṛtyu-pralaya.
देहीं रोग बळावती । अथवा कठीण प्रसंग पडती ।
तेणें पंचप्राण जाती । व्यापार सांडुनी
dehīm roga baḷāvatī | athavā kaṭhīṇa prasamga paḍatī |
teṇem pamcaprāṇa jātī | vyāpāra sāmḍunī
In the body, diseases grow strong, or hard incidents befall; / by that, the pañca-prāṇas leave — abandoning their function.
तिकडे गेला मनपवनु । इकडे राहीली नुस्ती तनु ।
दुसरा प्रळयो अनुमानु । असेचिना
tikaḍe gelā manapavanu | ikaḍe rāhīlī nustī tanu |
dusarā praḷayo anumānu | asecinā
There went mana-pavana (wind-mind); here remained the mere body. / The second pralaya — inference need not be.
तिसरा ब्रह्मा निजेला । तों हा मृत्यलोक गोळा जाला ।
अवघा व्यापार खुंटला । प्राणीमात्रांचा
tisarā brahmā nijelā | tom hā mṛtyaloka goḷā jālā |
avaghā vyāpāra khumṭalā | prāṇīmātrāmcā
The third — Brahmā went to sleep; then this mṛtyu-loka has balled up. / All activity stopped — of every creature.
तेव्हां प्राणीयांचे सुक्ष्मांश । वायोचक्रीं करिती वास ।
कित्येक काल जातां ब्रह्मयास । जागृती घडे
tevhām prāṇīyāmce sukṣmāmśa | vāyocakrīm karitī vāsa |
kityeka kāla jātām brahmayāsa | jāgṛtī ghaḍe
Then the subtle portions of creatures reside in the vāyu-cakra. / After some time, to Brahmā, waking comes.
पुन्हा मागुती सृष्टि रची । विसंचिले जीव मागुतें संची ।
सीमा होतां आयुष्याची । ब्रह्मप्रळय मांडे
punhā māgutī sṛṣṭi racī | visamcile jīva māgutem samcī |
sīmā hotām āyuṣyācī | brahmapraḷaya māmḍe
Again sṛṣṭi is composed; again scattered jīvas are gathered. / When life-span reaches its limit — Brahma-pralaya occurs.
शत वरुषें मेघ जाती । तेणें प्राणी मृत्यु पावती ।
असंभाव्य तर्के क्षिती । मर्यादेवेगळी
śata varuṣem megha jātī | teṇem prāṇī mṛtyu pāvatī |
asambhāvya tarke kṣitī | maryādevegaḷī
For a hundred years, clouds fail; by that, creatures attain death. / Inconceivable — the earth-globe inferred beyond measure.
सूर्य तपे बाराकळी । तेणें पृथ्वीची होय होळी ।
अग्नी पावतां पाताळीं । शेष विष वमी
sūrya tape bārākaḷī | teṇem pṛthvīcī hoya hoḷī |
agnī pāvatām pātāḷīm | śeṣa viṣa vamī
The sun grows twelvefold; by that, the earth becomes a pyre. / Fire reaching pātāla, Śeṣa vomits his venom.
आकाशीं सूर्याच्या ज्वाळा । पाताळीं शेष विष वमी गरळा ।
दोहिकडून जळतां भूगोळा । उरी कैंची
ākāśīm sūryācyā jvāḷā | pātāḷīm śeṣa viṣa vamī garaḷā |
dohikaḍūna jaḷatām bhūgoḷā | urī kaimcī
In the sky, flames of the sun; in pātāla, Śeṣa vomits poison. / Burned on both sides — the earth-globe has no remainder.
सूर्यास खडतरता चढे । हलकालोळ चहुंकडे ।
कोंसळती मेरूचे कडे । घडघडायमान
sūryāsa khaḍataratā caḍhe | halakāloḷa cahumkaḍe |
komsaḷatī merūce kaḍe | ghaḍaghaḍāyamāna
The sun mounts in intensity; chaos on all sides; / the slopes of Meru collapse — thunderously.
अमरावती सत्यलोक । वैकुंठ कैळासादिक ।
याहिवेगळे नाना लोक । भस्मोन जाती
amarāvatī satyaloka | vaikumṭha kaiḷāsādika |
yāhivegaḷe nānā loka | bhasmona jātī
Amarāvatī, Satya-loka, Vaikuṇṭha, Kailāsa and others; / and various other lokas — are burned to ash.
मेरु अवघाचि घसरे । तेथील महीमाच वोसरे ।
देवसमुदाव वावरे । वायोचक्रीं
meru avaghāci ghasare | tethīla mahīmāca vosare |
devasamudāva vāvare | vāyocakrīm
Meru entirely collapses; that place-greatness recedes. / The deva-host wanders — in the vāyu-cakra.
भस्म जालिया धरत्री । प्रजन्य पडें शुंडाधारीं ।
मही विरे जळांतरीं । निमिष्यमात्रें
bhasma jāliyā dharatrī | prajanya paḍem śumḍādhārīm |
mahī vire jaḷāmtarīm | nimiṣyamātrem
The earth burnt to ash, rain falls as elephant-trunks; / the earth dissolves in water — in an instant.
पुढें नुस्ते उरेल जळ । तयास शोषील अनळ ।
पुढें एकवटती ज्वाळ । मर्यादेवेगळे
puḍhem nuste urela jaḷa | tayāsa śoṣīla anaḷa |
puḍhem ekavaṭatī jvāḷa | maryādevegaḷe
Then only water remains; fire dries it up. / Then unified flames — beyond-measure.
समुद्रींचा वडवानळ । शिवनेत्रींचा नेत्रानळ ।
सप्तकंचुकींचा आवर्णानळ । सूर्य आणी विद्युल्यता
samudrīmcā vaḍavānaḷa | śivanetrīmcā netrānaḷa |
saptakamcukīmcā āvarṇānaḷa | sūrya āṇī vidyulyatā
The ocean's vaḍavānala; Śiva-eyes' netrānala; / the seven-sheaths' āvaraṇānala; the sun and lightning —
ऐसे ज्वाळ एकवटती । तेणें देव देह सोडिती ।
पूर्वरूपें मिळोन जाती । प्रभंजनीं
aise jvāḷa ekavaṭatī | teṇem deva deha soḍitī |
pūrvarūpem miḷona jātī | prabhamjanīm
— such flames unite; by that, the devas release their bodies. / In original forms they go — into the prabhañjana (storm).
तो वारा झडपी वैश्वानरा । वन्ही विझेल येकसरा ।
वायो धावें सैरावैरा । परब्रह्मीं
to vārā jhaḍapī vaiśvānarā | vanhī vijhela yekasarā |
vāyo dhāvem sairāvairā | parabrahmīm
That wind dries up vaiśvānara (fire); fire is extinguished at one stroke. / Vāyu runs wildly — into parabrahma.
धूम्र वितुळे आकाशीं । तैसे होईल समीरासी ।
वहुतां मधें थोडियासी । नाश बोलिला
dhūmra vituḷe ākāśīm | taise hoīla samīrāsī |
vahutām madhem thoḍiyāsī | nāśa bolilā
Smoke dissolves in the sky; so will it be with the breeze. / Among many, of few — destruction is spoken.
वायो वितुळतांच जाण । सूक्ष्म भूतें आणी त्रिगुण ।
ईश्वर सांडी अधिष्ठान । निर्विकल्पीं
vāyo vituḷatāmca jāṇa | sūkṣma bhūtem āṇī triguṇa |
īśvara sāmḍī adhiṣṭhāna | nirvikalpīm
On vāyu's dissolving, the subtle elements and tri-guṇas — / Īśvara leaves the foundation — in the nirvikalpa.
तेथें जाणिव राहिली । आणी जगज्जोती निमाली ।
शुद्ध सारांश उरली । स्वरूपस्थिती
tethem jāṇiva rāhilī | āṇī jagajjotī nimālī |
śuddha sārāmśa uralī | svarūpasthitī
There knowing-ness remained; and jagaj-jyoti was extinguished. / Only pure essence remained — svarūpa-sthiti.
जितुकीं काहीं नामाभिधानें । तये प्रकृतीचेनि गुणें ।
प्रकृती नस्तां बोलणें । कैसें बोलावें
jitukīm kāhīm nāmābhidhānem | taye prakṛtīceni guṇem |
prakṛtī nastām bolaṇem | kaisem bolāvem
As many as the name-designations are — they are due to prakṛti's guṇa. / Without prakṛti, speech — how should be spoken?
प्रकृती अस्तां विवेक कीजे । त्यास विवेकप्रळये बोलिजे ।
पांचहि प्रळय वोजें । तुज निरोपिलें
prakṛtī astām viveka kīje | tyāsa vivekapraḷaye bolije |
pāmcahi praḷaya vojem | tuja niropilem
Even while prakṛti exists, vivek should be done; that is called vivek-pralaya. / The five pralayas in order — have been explained to you.
