येक निश्चळ येक चंचळ । चंचळीं गुंतलें सकळ ।
निश्चळ तें निश्चळ । जैसें तैसें
yeka niścaḷa yeka camcaḷa | camcaḷīm gumtalem sakaḷa |
niścaḷa tem niścaḷa | jaisem taisem
One is unmoving, one is moving; all are entangled in the moving. / The unmoving is unmoving — as-it-is.
पाहे निश्चळाचा विवेक । ऐसा लक्शांमधें येक ।
निश्चळाऐसा निश्चयात्मक । निश्चळचि तो
pāhe niścaḷācā viveka | aisā lakśāmmadhem yeka |
niścaḷāaisā niścayātmaka | niścaḷaci to
See the vivek of the unmoving — such — one in a lakh. / Unmoving-like, definitively certain — he himself is the unmoving.
या निश्चळाच्या गोष्टी सांगती । पुन्हां चंचळाकडे धांवती ।
चंचळचक्रीं निघोन जाती । ऐसे थोडे
yā niścaḷācyā goṣṭī sāmgatī | punhām camcaḷākaḍe dhāmvatī |
camcaḷacakrīm nighona jātī | aise thoḍe
Telling these accounts of the unmoving, one runs back to the moving. / Escaping from the wheel of moving — such are few.
चंचळीं चंचळ जन्मलें । चंचळाचि मधें वाढलें ।
अवघें चंचळचि बिंबलें । जन्मवरी
camcaḷīm camcaḷa janmalem | camcaḷāci madhem vāḍhalem |
avaghem camcaḷaci bimbalem | janmavarī
In the moving, moving was born; it grew up within moving; / all moving was imprinted — up to birth.
पृथ्वी अवघी चंचळाकडे । करणें तितुकें चंचळीं घडे ।
चंचळ सांडून निश्चळीं पवाडे । ऐसा कैंचा
pṛthvī avaghī camcaḷākaḍe | karaṇem titukem camcaḷīm ghaḍe |
camcaḷa sāmḍūna niścaḷīm pavāḍe | aisā kaimcā
The earth is all on the moving side; what is to be done — is of the moving. / Leaving moving and settling in unmoving — such is rare.
चंचळ कांहीं निश्चळेना । निश्चळ कदापी चळेना ।
नित्यानित्यविवेकें जना । उमजे कांहीं
camcaḷa kāmhīm niścaḷenā | niścaḷa kadāpī caḷenā |
nityānityavivekem janā | umaje kāmhīm
Moving does not become unmoving; unmoving never moves. / By nitya-anitya-vivek, people understand — somewhat.
कांहीं उमजलें तरी नुमजे । कांहीं समजलें तरी न समजे ।
कांहीं बुझे तरी निर्बुजे । किंचित मात्र
kāmhīm umajalem tarī numaje | kāmhīm samajalem tarī na samaje |
kāmhīm bujhe tarī nirbuje | kimcita mātra
Some understand, yet do not understand; some grasp, yet do not grasp; / some catch on, yet do not catch on — just slightly.
संदेह अनुमान आणी भ्रम । अवघा चंचळामधें श्रम ।
निश्चळीं कदा नाहीं वर्म । समजलें पाहिजे
samdeha anumāna āṇī bhrama | avaghā camcaḷāmadhem śrama |
niścaḷīm kadā nāhīm varma | samajalem pāhije
Doubt, inference, and bhrama — all are exertion within the moving. / In the unmoving, there is never a secret-code — it must be grasped.
चंचळाकरी तितुकी माया । माईक जाले विलया ।
लहान थोर म्हणावया । कार्य नाहीं
camcaḷākarī titukī māyā | māīka jāle vilayā |
lahāna thora mhaṇāvayā | kārya nāhīm
Whatever the moving does, is māyā; the māyika dissolves. / To call it 'big' or 'small' — is no task.
सगट माया विस्तारली । अष्टधा प्रकृति फांपावली ।
चित्रविचित्र विकारली । नाना रूपें
sagaṭa māyā vistāralī | aṣṭadhā prakṛti phāmpāvalī |
citravicitra vikāralī | nānā rūpem
As a whole, māyā spread; aṣṭadhā-prakṛti expanded. / Assorted, varied, it transformed — in various forms.
नाना उत्पत्ती नाना विकार । नाना प्राणी लाहान थोर ।
नाना पदार्थ मकार । नाना रूपें
nānā utpattī nānā vikāra | nānā prāṇī lāhāna thora |
nānā padārtha makāra | nānā rūpem
Various utpattis, various vikāras; various creatures small-and-great; / various objects, characters — in various forms.
विकारवंत विकारलें । सूक्श्म जडत्वा आलें ।
अमर्याद दिसों लागलें । कांहींचाबाहीं
vikāravamta vikāralem | sūkśma jaḍatvā ālem |
amaryāda disom lāgalem | kāmhīmcābāhīm
The vikāra-bearing transformed; the subtle attained jaḍatva. / Unbounded it began to appear — all over.
मग नाना शरीरें निर्माण जालीं । नाना नामाभिधानें ठेविलीं ।
भाषा परत्वें कळों आलीं । काहीं कांहीं
maga nānā śarīrem nirmāṇa jālīm | nānā nāmābhidhānem ṭhevilīm |
bhāṣā paratvem kaḷom ālīm | kāhīm kāmhīm
Then various bodies were created; various name-designations were placed; / various languages became known — somewhat.
मग नाना रीति नाना दंडक । आचार येकाहून येक ।
वर्तों लागले सकळ लोक । लोकाचारें
maga nānā rīti nānā damḍaka | ācāra yekāhūna yeka |
vartom lāgale sakaḷa loka | lokācārem
Then various customs, various rules; one ācāra more than another; / all people began to conduct — in folkways.
अष्टधा प्रकृतीचीं शरीरें । निर्माण जालीं लाहानथोरें ।
पुढें आपुलाल्या प्रकारें । वर्तों लागती
aṣṭadhā prakṛtīcīm śarīrem | nirmāṇa jālīm lāhānathorem |
puḍhem āpulālyā prakārem | vartom lāgatī
Bodies of aṣṭadhā-prakṛti were created — small and great; / ahead, in their own ways — they begin to conduct.
नाना मत्तें निर्माण जालीं । नाना पाषांडें वाढलीं ।
नाना प्रकारीचीं उठिलीं ॥ नाना बंडें
nānā mattem nirmāṇa jālīm | nānā pāṣāmḍem vāḍhalīm |
nānā prakārīcīm uṭhilīm || nānā bamḍem
Various doctrines were created; various heresies grew; / various kinds arose — various uprisings.
जैसा प्रवाह पडिला । तैसाच लोक चालिला ।
कोण वारील कोणाला । येक नाहीं
jaisā pravāha paḍilā | taisāca loka cālilā |
koṇa vārīla koṇālā | yeka nāhīm
As the current fell, so the people moved. / Who would stop whom? No one.
पृथ्वीचा जाला गळांठा । येकाहून येक मोठा ।
कोण खरा कोण खोटा । कोण जाणे
pṛthvīcā jālā gaḷāmṭhā | yekāhūna yeka moṭhā |
koṇa kharā koṇa khoṭā | koṇa jāṇe
The earth became a lump; one bigger than another. / Who is real, who is false — who knows?
आचार बहुकाचेंत पडिला । कित्येक पोटासाठीं बुडाला ।
अवघा वरपंगचि जाला । साभिमानें
ācāra bahukācemta paḍilā | kityeka poṭāsāṭhīm buḍālā |
avaghā varapamgaci jālā | sābhimānem
Ācāra fell into many-ness; many drowned for their bellies. / All became mere-outward — by self-pride.
देव जाले उदंड । देवांचें मांडलें भंड ।
भूतादेवतांचें थोतांड । येकचि जालें
deva jāle udamḍa | devāmcem māmḍalem bhamḍa |
bhūtādevatāmcem thotāmḍa | yekaci jālem
Devas became abundant; the commotion of devas is set up. / Bhūta-devatās' show — became one.
मुख्य देव तो कळेना । काशास कांहींच मिळेना ।
येकास येक वळेना । अनावर
mukhya deva to kaḷenā | kāśāsa kāmhīmca miḷenā |
yekāsa yeka vaḷenā | anāvara
The chief Deva is not known; for what purpose does nothing unite? / One does not yield to another — uncontrollable.
ऐसा नासला विचार । कोण पाहातो सारासार ।
कैचा लहान कैंचा थोर । कळेचिना
aisā nāsalā vicāra | koṇa pāhāto sārāsāra |
kaicā lahāna kaimcā thora | kaḷecinā
Such the consideration is spoiled; who sees sāra-asāra? / Whence small, whence great — is not known.
शास्त्रांचा बाजार भरला । देवांचा गल्बला जाला ।
लोक कामनेच्या व्रताला । झोंबोन पडती
śāstrāmcā bājāra bharalā | devāmcā galbalā jālā |
loka kāmanecyā vratālā | jhombona paḍatī
A bazaar of śāstras is laid; a commotion of devas arose. / People by kāmanā-vows — cling and fall.
ऐसें अवघें नासलें । सत्यासत्य हारपलें ।
अवघें अनायेक जालें । चहूंकडे
aisem avaghem nāsalem | satyāsatya hārapalem |
avaghem anāyeka jālem | cahūmkaḍe
Thus all is ruined; truth-untruth has vanished. / All has become anayaka (leaderless) — on every side.
मतामतांचा गल्बला । कोणी पुसेना कोणाला ।
जो जे मतीं सांपडला । तयास तेंचि थोर
matāmatāmcā galbalā | koṇī pusenā koṇālā |
jo je matīm sāmpaḍalā | tayāsa temci thora
Commotion of doctrine-doctrines; no one asks anyone. / Whoever has fallen into a doctrine — to him that itself is great.
असत्याचा अभिमान । तेणें पाविजे पतन ।
म्हणोनियां ज्ञाते जन । सत्य शोधिती
asatyācā abhimāna | teṇem pāvije patana |
mhaṇoniyām jñāte jana | satya śodhitī
The pride of untruth — leads to ruin. / Therefore the jñāta-folk — search for truth.
लोक वर्तती सकळ । तें ज्ञात्यास करतळामळ ।
आतां एइका केवळ । विवेकी हो
loka vartatī sakaḷa | tem jñātyāsa karataḷāmaḷa |
ātām eikā kevaḷa | vivekī ho
People conduct all this; to the jñāta it is [like] the palm of the hand. / Now hear purely — O vivekīs.
लोक कोण्या पंथें जाती । आणि कोण्या देवास भजती ।
ऐसी हे रोकडी प्रचिती । सावध ऐका
loka koṇyā pamthem jātī | āṇi koṇyā devāsa bhajatī |
aisī he rokaḍī pracitī | sāvadha aikā
On what paths do people go? And which deva do they worship? / Such direct pratīti — attentively hear.
मृत्तिका धातु पाषाणादिक । ऐसिया प्रतिमा अनेक ।
बहुतेक लोकांचा दंडक । प्रतिमादेवीं
mṛttikā dhātu pāṣāṇādika | aisiyā pratimā aneka |
bahuteka lokāmcā damḍaka | pratimādevīm
Clay, metal, stone, etc. — such images are many. / Most people's rule — is in image-devas.
नाना देवांचे अवतार । चरित्रें ऐकती येक नर ।
जप ध्यान निरंतर । करिती पूजा
nānā devāmce avatāra | caritrem aikatī yeka nara |
japa dhyāna niramtara | karitī pūjā
Various avatāras of various devas — some hear stories; / continuously do japa, dhyāna, and pūjā.
येक सकळांचा अंतरात्मा । विश्वीं वर्ते जो विश्वात्मा ।
द्रष्टा साक्शी ज्ञानात्मा । मानिती येक
yeka sakaḷāmcā amtarātmā | viśvīm varte jo viśvātmā |
draṣṭā sākśī jñānātmā | mānitī yeka
One — Antarātmā of all — who is Viśvātmā operating in the world; / dṛṣṭā, sākṣī, jñānātmā — [some] accept one.
येक ते निर्मळ निश्चळ । कदापी नव्हेति चंचळ ।
अनन्यभावें केवळ । वस्तुच ते
yeka te nirmaḷa niścaḷa | kadāpī navheti camcaḷa |
ananyabhāvem kevaḷa | vastuca te
Some — the nirmala, niścala — never become cañcala; / purely by ananya-bhāva — vastu itself.
येक नाना प्रतिमा । दुसरा अवतारमहिमा ।
तिसरा तो अंतरात्मा । चौथा तो निर्विकारी
yeka nānā pratimā | dusarā avatāramahimā |
tisarā to amtarātmā | cauthā to nirvikārī
One: various images. Second: greatness of avatāras. / Third: the Antarātmā. Fourth: nirvikārī.
ऐसे हे चत्वार देव । सृष्टीमधील स्वभाव ।
यावेगळा अंतर्भाव । कोठेंचि नाहीं
aise he catvāra deva | sṛṣṭīmadhīla svabhāva |
yāvegaḷā amtarbhāva | koṭhemci nāhīm
Such are the four devas — the svabhāva within sṛṣṭi. / Apart from these, inner-feeling — is nowhere.
अवघें येकचि मानिती । ते साक्श देव जाणती ।
परंतु अष्टधा प्रकृति । वोळखिली पाहिजे
avaghem yekaci mānitī | te sākśa deva jāṇatī |
paramtu aṣṭadhā prakṛti | voḷakhilī pāhije
All accept as one — they know the witness Deva. / But aṣṭadhā-prakṛti — must be recognized.
प्रकृतीमधील देव । तो प्रकृतीचा स्वभाव ।
भावातीत माहानभाव । विवेकें जाणावा
prakṛtīmadhīla deva | to prakṛtīcā svabhāva |
bhāvātīta māhānabhāva | vivekem jāṇāvā
The deva within prakṛti is the svabhāva of prakṛti. / The mahānubhāva beyond bhāva — should be known by vivek.
जो निर्मळास ध्याईल । तो निर्मळचि होईल ।
जो जयास भजेल । तो तद्रूप जाणावा
jo nirmaḷāsa dhyāīla | to nirmaḷaci hoīla |
jo jayāsa bhajela | to tadrūpa jāṇāvā
He who meditates on the nirmala — he alone becomes nirmala. / He who worships whatever — know him as tad-rūpa (becoming-That).
क्शीर नीर निवडिती । ते राजहंस बोलिजेती ।
सारासार जाणती । ते माहानभाव
kśīra nīra nivaḍitī | te rājahamsa bolijetī |
sārāsāra jāṇatī | te māhānabhāva
Those who separate milk and water — are called rāja-hamsas. / Those who know sāra-asāra — are mahānubhāvas.
अरे जो चंचळास ध्याईल । तो सहजचि चळेल ।
जो निश्चळास भजेल । तो निश्चळचि
are jo camcaḷāsa dhyāīla | to sahajaci caḷela |
jo niścaḷāsa bhajela | to niścaḷaci
Lo, he who meditates on the moving — spontaneously moves. / He who worships the unmoving — is the unmoving.
प्रकृतीसारिखें चालावें । परी अंतरीं शाश्वत वोळखावें ।
सत्य होऊन वर्तावें । लोकांऐसें
prakṛtīsārikhem cālāvem | parī amtarīm śāśvata voḷakhāvem |
satya hoūna vartāvem | lokāmaisem
One should act according to prakṛti; yet recognize the eternal within. / Being truth, one should live — like people.
