दुर्बल नाचारी वोडगस्त । आळसी खादाड रिणगस्त ।
मूर्खपणें अवघें वेस्त । कांहींच नाहीं
durbala nācārī voḍagasta | āḷasī khādāḍa riṇagasta |
mūrkhapaṇem avaghem vesta | kāmhīmca nāhīm
Weak, helpless, stunted; lazy, glutton, debt-ridden; / by foolishness, all is broken — nothing is [there].
खाया नाहीं जेवाया नाहीं । लेया नाहीं नेसाया नाहीं ।
अंथराया नाहीं पांघराया नाहीं । कोंपट नाहीं अभागी
khāyā nāhīm jevāyā nāhīm | leyā nāhīm nesāyā nāhīm |
amtharāyā nāhīm pāmgharāyā nāhīm | kompaṭa nāhīm abhāgī
No food, no dining; no dress, no clothing; / no bedding, no covering; no hut — unfortunate.
सोएयेरे नाहीं धायेरे नाहीं । इष्ट नाहीं मित्र नाहीं ।
पाहातां कोठें वोळखी नाहीं । आश्रयेंविण परदेसी
soeyere nāhīm dhāyere nāhīm | iṣṭa nāhīm mitra nāhīm |
pāhātām koṭhem voḷakhī nāhīm | āśrayemviṇa paradesī
No relative, no wet-nurse; no confidant, no friend; / on looking, no acquaintance — without shelter, foreigner.
तेणें कैसें करावें । काये जीवेंसीं धरावें ।
वाचावें किं मरावें । कोण्या प्रकारें
teṇem kaisem karāvem | kāye jīvemsīm dharāvem |
vācāvem kim marāvem | koṇyā prakārem
How should he act? What to hold on to with life? / Live or die — in what manner?
ऐसें कोणीयेकें पुसिलें । कोणीयेकें उत्तर दिधलें ।
श्रोतीं सावध ऐकिलें । पाहिजे आतां । ५ ॥
लाहान थोर काम कांहीं । केल्यावेगळें होत नाहीं ।
करंट्या सावध पाहीं । सदेव होसी
aisem koṇīyekem pusilem | koṇīyekem uttara didhalem |
śrotīm sāvadha aikilem | pāhije ātām | 5 ||
lāhāna thora kāma kāmhīm | kelyāvegaḷem hota nāhīm |
karamṭyā sāvadha pāhīm | sadeva hosī
Such someone asked; someone gave the answer. / Listeners should alertly hear — now. / No small or great task happens — without doing; / O failure, alertly see — you will become blessed.
अंतरीं नाहीं सावधानता । येत्न ठाकेना पुरता ।
सुखसंतोषाची वार्ता । तेथें कैंची
amtarīm nāhīm sāvadhānatā | yetna ṭhākenā puratā |
sukhasamtoṣācī vārtā | tethem kaimcī
Within, there is no alertness; effort is not complete. / Whence the talk — of happiness-and-joy?
म्हणोन आळस सोडावा । येत्न साक्षेपें जोडावा ।
दुश्चितपणाचा मोडावा । थारा बळें
mhaṇona āḷasa soḍāvā | yetna sākṣepem joḍāvā |
duścitapaṇācā moḍāvā | thārā baḷem
Therefore abandon laziness; by effort and attention, [work] should be joined. / By force, break the foothold — of distraction.
प्रातःकाळीं उठत जावें । प्रातःस्मरामि करावें ।
नित्य नेमें स्मरावें । पाठांतर
prātaḥkāḷīm uṭhata jāvem | prātaḥsmarāmi karāvem |
nitya nemem smarāvem | pāṭhāmtara
Rise at prātaḥkāla; do prātaḥ-smarāmi (morning-remembrance); / always remember by rule — recitations.
मागील उजळणी पुढें पाठ । नेम धरावा निकट ।
बाष्कळपणाची वटवट । करूंच नये
māgīla ujaḷaṇī puḍhem pāṭha | nema dharāvā nikaṭa |
bāṣkaḷapaṇācī vaṭavaṭa | karūmca naye
Morning review, daytime recitation; hold rule close. / Nonsense-chatter — should never be done.
दिशेकडे दुरी जावें । सुचिस्मंत होऊन यावें ।
येतां कांहीं तरी आणावें । रितें खोटें
diśekaḍe durī jāvem | sucismamta hoūna yāvem |
yetām kāmhīm tarī āṇāvem | ritem khoṭem
Go far into the corner; come pure; / while coming, bring something — empty [hands] are bad.
धूतवस्त्रें घालावीं पिळून । करावें चरणक्षाळण ।
देवदर्शन देवार्चन । येथासांग
dhūtavastrem ghālāvīm piḷūna | karāvem caraṇakṣāḷaṇa |
devadarśana devārcana | yethāsāmga
Wring washed cloth and wear; perform caraṇa-kṣāḷaṇa (feet-washing); / deva-darśana, deva-arcana — full-ritual.
कांहीं फळाहार घ्यावा । पुढें वेवसाये करावा ।
लोक आपला परावा । म्हणत जावा
kāmhīm phaḷāhāra ghyāvā | puḍhem vevasāye karāvā |
loka āpalā parāvā | mhaṇata jāvā
Take some fruit-snack; then do business; / 'own people or foreign' — keep saying.
सुंदर अक्षर ल्याहावें । पष्ट नेमस्त वाचावें ।
विवरविवरों जाणावें । अर्थांतर
sumdara akṣara lyāhāvem | paṣṭa nemasta vācāvem |
vivaravivarom jāṇāvem | arthāmtara
Write beautiful letters; read clearly, rigorously; / know-to-inquire-and-inquire — meaning-depth.
नेमस्त नेटकें पुसावें । विशद करून सांगावें ।
प्रत्ययेंविण बोलावें । तेंचि पाप
nemasta neṭakem pusāvem | viśada karūna sāmgāvem |
pratyayemviṇa bolāvem | temci pāpa
Ask rigorously and neatly; tell making clear; / speaking without pratyaya — that itself is pāpa.
सावधानता असावी । नीतिमर्याद राखावी ।
जनास माने ऐसी करावी । क्रियासिद्धि
sāvadhānatā asāvī | nītimaryāda rākhāvī |
janāsa māne aisī karāvī | kriyāsiddhi
Alertness should be; maintain nīti-maryādā; / make acceptable to people — the kriyā-siddhi.
आलियाचें समाधान । हरिकथा निरूपण ।
सर्वदा प्रसंग पाहोन । वर्तत जावें
āliyācem samādhāna | harikathā nirūpaṇa |
sarvadā prasamga pāhona | vartata jāvem
Samādhāna of the newcomer; Hari-kathā, nirūpaṇa; / always seeing the occasion — should proceed.
ताळ धाटी मुद्रा शुद्ध । अर्थ प्रमये अन्वये शुद्ध ।
गद्यपद्यें दृष्टांत शुद्ध । अन्वयाचे
tāḷa dhāṭī mudrā śuddha | artha pramaye anvaye śuddha |
gadyapadyem dṛṣṭāmta śuddha | anvayāce
Rhythm, manner, pure mudrā; pure meaning, pramāṇa, anvaya; / pure gadya-padya dṛṣṭāntas — of anvaya.
गाणें वाजवणें नाचणें । हस्तन्यास दाखवणें ।
सभारंजकें वचनें । आडकथा छंदबंद
gāṇem vājavaṇem nācaṇem | hastanyāsa dākhavaṇem |
sabhāramjakem vacanem | āḍakathā chamdabamda
Singing, playing, dancing; hand-gestures to show; / assembly-pleasing sayings — detours, rhymes.
बहुतांचें समाधान राखावें । बहुतांस मानेल तें बोलावें ।
विलग पडों नेदावें । कथेमधें
bahutāmcem samādhāna rākhāvem | bahutāmsa mānela tem bolāvem |
vilaga paḍom nedāvem | kathemadhem
Preserve samādhāna of many; speak what many will accept; / do not let confusion fall — in the discourse.
लोकांस उदंड वाजी आणूं नये । लोकांचे उकलावें हृदये ।
तरी मग स्वभावें होये । नामघोष
lokāmsa udamḍa vājī āṇūm naye | lokāmce ukalāvem hṛdaye |
tarī maga svabhāvem hoye | nāmaghoṣa
Do not bring uselessness onto people; open the hearts of people; / then naturally — Nāmaghoṣa (name-reverberation) occurs.
भक्ति ज्ञान वैराग्य योग । नाना साधनाचे प्रयोग ।
जेणें तुटे भवरोग । मननमात्रें
bhakti jñāna vairāgya yoga | nānā sādhanāce prayoga |
jeṇem tuṭe bhavaroga | mananamātrem
Bhakti, jñāna, vairāgya, yoga; various means of sādhana; / by which bhava-disease breaks — by mere contemplation.
जैसें बोलणें बोलावें । तैसेंचि चालणें चालावें ।
मग महंतलीळा स्वभावें । आंगीं बाणे
jaisem bolaṇem bolāvem | taisemci cālaṇem cālāvem |
maga mahamtalīḷā svabhāvem | āmgīm bāṇe
As you speak, so should you walk; / then mahant-līlā by svabhāva — is impressed on the body.
युक्तिवीण साजिरा योग । तो दुराशेचा रोग ।
संगतीच्या लोकांचा भोग । उभा ठेला
yuktivīṇa sājirā yoga | to durāśecā roga |
samgatīcyā lokāmcā bhoga | ubhā ṭhelā
Yoga without skill — is the disease of dur-āśā. / The bhoga of company-people — stands upright.
ऐसें न करावें सर्वथा । जनास पावऊं नये वेथा ।
हृदईं चिंतावें समर्थ । रघुनाथजीसी
aisem na karāvem sarvathā | janāsa pāvaūm naye vethā |
hṛdaīm cimtāvem samartha | raghunāthajīsī
Never do such a thing; do not give pain to people. / In the heart, contemplate the Supreme — Raghunātha-jī.
उदासवृत्तिस मानवे जन । विशेष कथानिरूपण ।
रामकथा ब्रह्मांड भेदून । पैलाड न्यावी
udāsavṛttisa mānave jana | viśeṣa kathānirūpaṇa |
rāmakathā brahmāmḍa bhedūna | pailāḍa nyāvī
Detached-vṛtti pleases people — particularly kathā-nirūpaṇa; / Rāma-kathā piercing brahmāṇḍa — should be carried beyond.
सांग महंती संगीत गाणें । तेथें वैभवास काय उणें ।
नभामाजी तारांगणें । तैसे लोक
sāmga mahamtī samgīta gāṇem | tethem vaibhavāsa kāya uṇem |
nabhāmājī tārāmgaṇem | taise loka
Full mahantī with musical singing — there what lack to vaibhava? / In the sky, stars — like that, people.
आकलबंद नाहीं जेथें । अवघेंचि विश्कळित तेथें ।
येकें आकलेविण तें । काये आहे
ākalabamda nāhīm jethem | avaghemci viśkaḷita tethem |
yekem ākaleviṇa tem | kāye āhe
Where there is no gathering-bond — there all is scattered. / Without one intellect — what exists?
घालून अकलेचा पवाड । व्हावें ब्रह्मांडाहून जाड ।
तेथें कैचें आणिले द्वाड । करंटपण
ghālūna akalecā pavāḍa | vhāvem brahmāmḍāhūna jāḍa |
tethem kaicem āṇile dvāḍa | karamṭapaṇa
Laying out the range of intellect — become heavier than the brahmāṇḍa. / There whence brought — the rotten — failure-hood?
येथें आशंका फिटली । बुद्धि येत्नीं प्रवेशली ।
कांहींयेक आशा वाढली । अंतःकर्णी
yethem āśamkā phiṭalī | buddhi yetnīm praveśalī |
kāmhīmyeka āśā vāḍhalī | amtaḥkarṇī
Here the doubt is cleared; buddhi has entered effort. / Some hope has grown — in the antaḥkaraṇa.
