श्रोता म्हणे वक्तयासी । कोण कर्ता निश्चयेंसीं ।
सलळ सृष्टि ब्रह्मांडासी । कोणें केलें
śrotā mhaṇe vaktayāsī | koṇa kartā niścayemsīm |
salaḷa sṛṣṭi brahmāmḍāsī | koṇem kelem
The listener says to the vaktā: 'Who is the kartā with certainty? / Who has made all sṛṣṭi and brahmāṇḍa?'
तव बोलिला सभानायेक । जे बोलिके येकाहून येक ।
या बोलण्याचे कौतुक । श्रोतीं सादर ऐकावें
tava bolilā sabhānāyeka | je bolike yekāhūna yeka |
yā bolaṇyāce kautuka | śrotīm sādara aikāvem
Then the assembly-leader spoke: 'Who speak — one more than another — / alertly hear the delight of this speech.'
येक म्हणती कर्ता देव । येक म्हणती कोण देव ।
आपुलाला अभिप्राव । बोलते जाले
yeka mhaṇatī kartā deva | yeka mhaṇatī koṇa deva |
āpulālā abhiprāva | bolate jāle
Some say kartā is Deva; some say 'which Deva?' / Their own purport — they begin to speak.
उत्तम मध्यम कनिष्ठ । भावर्थें बोलती पष्ट ।
आपुलाली उपासना श्रेष्ठ । मानिती जनीं
uttama madhyama kaniṣṭha | bhāvarthem bolatī paṣṭa |
āpulālī upāsanā śreṣṭha | mānitī janīm
Uttama, madhyama, kaniṣṭha — they speak plainly by bhāvārtha. / Their own upāsanā — they hold as superior.
कोणीयेक ऐसें म्हणती । कर्ता देव मंगळमूर्ती ।
येक म्हणती सरस्वती । सर्व करी
koṇīyeka aisem mhaṇatī | kartā deva mamgaḷamūrtī |
yeka mhaṇatī sarasvatī | sarva karī
Some say: kartā is Deva Mangalamūrti (Gaṇapati). / Some say: Sarasvatī — does all.
येक म्हणती कर्ता भैरव । येक म्हणती खंडेराव ।
येक म्हणती बीरेदेव । येक म्हणती भगवती
yeka mhaṇatī kartā bhairava | yeka mhaṇatī khamḍerāva |
yeka mhaṇatī bīredeva | yeka mhaṇatī bhagavatī
Some say: kartā is Bhairava; some say: Khaṇḍerāva; / some say: Bireśvara; some say: Bhagavatī.
येक म्हणती नरहरी । येक म्हणती बनशंकरी ।
येक म्हणती सर्व करी । नारायेणु
yeka mhaṇatī naraharī | yeka mhaṇatī banaśamkarī |
yeka mhaṇatī sarva karī | nārāyeṇu
Some say: Narahari; some say: Banaśankarī; / some say: all is done — by Nārāyaṇa.
येक म्हणती श्रीराम कर्ता । येक म्हणती श्रीकृष्ण कर्ता ।
येक म्हणती भगवंत कर्ता । केशवराज

yeka mhaṇatī bhagavamta kartā | keśavarāja
Some say: Śrī Rāma is kartā; some say: Śrī Kṛṣṇa is kartā; / some say: Bhagavant is kartā — Keśava-rāja.
येक म्हणती पांडुरंग । येक म्हणती श्रीरंग ।
येक म्हणती झोटींग । सर्व करी
yeka mhaṇatī pāmḍuramga | yeka mhaṇatī śrīramga |
yeka mhaṇatī jhoṭīmga | sarva karī
Some say: Pāṇḍuranga; some say: Śrīranga; / some say: Jhoṭinga — does all.
येक म्हणती मुंज्या कर्ता । येक म्हणती सूर्य कर्ता ।
येक म्हणती अग्न कर्ता । सकळ कांहीं
yeka mhaṇatī mumjyā kartā | yeka mhaṇatī sūrya kartā |
yeka mhaṇatī agna kartā | sakaḷa kāmhīm
Some say: Muñjā is kartā; some say: Sūrya is kartā; / some say: Agni is kartā — of everything.
येक म्हणती लक्ष्मी करी । येक म्हणती मारुती करी ।
येक म्हणती धरत्री करी । सर्व कांही
yeka mhaṇatī lakṣmī karī | yeka mhaṇatī mārutī karī |
yeka mhaṇatī dharatrī karī | sarva kāmhī
Some say: Lakṣmī does; some say: Māruti does; / some say: Dharatrī (earth) does — all.
येक म्हणती तुकाई । येक म्हणती येमाई ।
येक म्हणती सटवाई । सर्वकरी । १२ ॥
येक म्हणती भार्गव कर्ता । येक म्हणती वामन कर्ता ।
येक म्हणती परमात्मा कर्ता । येकचि आहे

yeka mhaṇatī saṭavāī | sarvakarī | 12 ||
yeka mhaṇatī bhārgava kartā | yeka mhaṇatī vāmana kartā |
yeka mhaṇatī paramātmā kartā | yekaci āhe
Some say: Tukā-ī; some say: Yamā-ī; / some say: Saṭavā-ī — does all. / Some say: Bhārgava is kartā; some say: Vāmana is kartā; / some say: paramātmā is kartā — the one.
येक म्हणती विरणा कर्ता । येक म्हणती बस्वंणा कर्ता ।
येक म्हणती रेवंणा कर्ता । सर्व कांहीं

yeka mhaṇatī revamṇā kartā | sarva kāmhīm
Some say: Viraṇā is kartā; some say: Basvaṇṇā is kartā; / some say: Revaṇṇā is kartā — of all.
येक म्हणती रवळया कर्ता । येक म्हणती स्वामी कार्तिक कर्ता ।
येक म्हणती वेंकटेश कर्ता । सर्व कांहीं
yeka mhaṇatī ravaḷayā kartā | yeka mhaṇatī svāmī kārtika kartā |
yeka mhaṇatī vemkaṭeśa kartā | sarva kāmhīm
Some say: Ravalya is kartā; some say: Svāmī Kārtika is kartā; / some say: Venkaṭeśa is kartā — of all.
येक म्हणती गुरु कर्ता । येक म्हणती दत्त कर्ता ।
येक म्हणती मुख्य कर्ता । वोढ्या जगन्नथ
yeka mhaṇatī guru kartā | yeka mhaṇatī datta kartā |
yeka mhaṇatī mukhya kartā | voḍhyā jagannatha
Some say: Guru is kartā; some say: Datta is kartā; / some say: the chief kartā is — Vodhya Jagannātha.
येक म्हणती ब्रह्मा कर्ता । येक म्हणती विष्णु कर्ता ।
येक म्हणती महेश कर्ता । निश्चयेंसीं
yeka mhaṇatī brahmā kartā | yeka mhaṇatī viṣṇu kartā |
yeka mhaṇatī maheśa kartā | niścayemsīm
Some say: Brahmā is kartā; some say: Viṣṇu is kartā; / some say: Maheśa is kartā — with certainty.
येक म्हणती प्रजन्य कर्ता । येक म्हणती वायो कर्ता ।
येक म्हणती करून अकर्ता । निर्गुण देव
yeka mhaṇatī prajanya kartā | yeka mhaṇatī vāyo kartā |
yeka mhaṇatī karūna akartā | nirguṇa deva
Some say: rain is kartā; some say: vāyu is kartā; / some say: doer-yet-non-doer — the nirguṇa Deva.
येक म्हणती माया करी । येक म्हणती जीव करी ।
येक म्हणती सर्व करी । प्रारब्धयोग
yeka mhaṇatī māyā karī | yeka mhaṇatī jīva karī |
yeka mhaṇatī sarva karī | prārabdhayoga
Some say: māyā does; some say: jīva does; / some say: all is done — by prārabdha-yoga.
येक म्हणती प्रेत्न करी । येक म्हणती स्वभाव करी ।
येक म्हणती कोण करी । कोण जाणे
yeka mhaṇatī pretna karī | yeka mhaṇatī svabhāva karī |
yeka mhaṇatī koṇa karī | koṇa jāṇe
Some say: effort does; some say: svabhāva does; / some say: who does? who knows?
ऐसा कर्त्याचा विचार । पुसतां भरला बजार ।
आतां कोणाचें उत्तर । खरें मानावें
aisā kartyācā vicāra | pusatām bharalā bajāra |
ātām koṇācem uttara | kharem mānāvem
Such the kartā-consideration; on asking, a bazaar filled. / Now whose answer — should be accepted as true?
जेहिं जो देव मानिला । कर्ता म्हणती तयाला ।
ऐसा लोकांचा गल्बला । वोसरेना
jehim jo deva mānilā | kartā mhaṇatī tayālā |
aisā lokāmcā galbalā | vosarenā
Whichever Deva someone accepted — him they call kartā. / Such people's commotion — does not subside.
आपुलाल्या साभिमानें निश्चयेचि केला मनें ।
याचा विचार पाहाणें । घडेचिना
āpulālyā sābhimānem niścayeci kelā manem |
yācā vicāra pāhāṇem | ghaḍecinā
By their own self-pride, they made certainty in the mind. / Its consideration — does not occur.
बहु लोकांचा बहु विचार । अवघा राहों द्या बाजार ।
परंतु याचा विचार । ऐसा आहे
bahu lokāmcā bahu vicāra | avaghā rāhom dyā bājāra |
paramtu yācā vicāra | aisā āhe
Many people, many considerations — let the whole bazaar remain. / But its consideration — is such.
श्रोतीं व्हावें सावधान । निश्चयें तोडावा अनुमान ।
प्रत्यये मानावा प्रमाण । जाणते पुरुषीं
śrotīm vhāvem sāvadhāna | niścayem toḍāvā anumāna |
pratyaye mānāvā pramāṇa | jāṇate puruṣīm
Listeners be alert; with certainty break inference. / Accept pratyaya as pramāṇa — by knowing puruṣas.
जें जें कर्तयानें केलें । तें तें त्याउपरी जालें ।
कर्त्यापूर्वीं आडळलें । न पाहिजे कीं
jem jem kartayānem kelem | tem tem tyāuparī jālem |
kartyāpūrvīm āḍaḷalem | na pāhije kīm
Whatever was done by a kartā, that was done after him. / Before the kartā it cannot be encountered — [surely].
केलें तें पंचभूतिक । आणि पंचभूतिक ब्रह्मादिक ।
तरी भूतांशें पंचभूतिक । केलें तें घडेना
kelem tem pamcabhūtika | āṇi pamcabhūtika brahmādika |
tarī bhūtāmśem pamcabhūtika | kelem tem ghaḍenā
What was done is pañca-bhūtika; and pañca-bhūtika are Brahmā-etc. / Then by element-portion — pañca-bhūtika was done — does not happen.
पंचभूतांस वेगळें करावें । मग कर्त्यास वोळखावें ।
पंचभूतिक तें स्वभावें । कर्त्यांस आलें
pamcabhūtāmsa vegaḷem karāvem | maga kartyāsa voḷakhāvem |
pamcabhūtika tem svabhāvem | kartyāmsa ālem
Separate the pañca-bhūtas; then recognize the kartā. / Pañca-bhūtika by svabhāva — came to the kartā.
पंचभूतांवेगळें निर्गुण । तेथें नाहीं कर्तेपण ।
निर्विकारास विकार कोण । लाऊं शके
pamcabhūtāmvegaḷem nirguṇa | tethem nāhīm kartepaṇa |
nirvikārāsa vikāra koṇa | lāūm śake
Beyond pañca-bhūtas is nirguṇa; there is no doership. / Who can attach vikāra — to nirvikāra?
निर्गुणास कर्तव्य न घडे । सगुण जाल्यांत सांपडे ।
आतां कर्तव्यता कोणेकडे । बरें पाहा
nirguṇāsa kartavya na ghaḍe | saguṇa jālyāmta sāmpaḍe |
ātām kartavyatā koṇekaḍe | barem pāhā
Doership does not occur to nirguṇa; becoming saguṇa, it is caught. / Now where is kartṛtva — see well.
लटिक्याचा कर्ता कोण । हें पुसणेंचि अप्रमाण ।
म्हणोनि हेंचि प्रमाण । जें स्वभावेंचि जालें
laṭikyācā kartā koṇa | hem pusaṇemci apramāṇa |
mhaṇoni hemci pramāṇa | jem svabhāvemci jālem
Who is the kartā of the false? — this asking itself is apramāṇa. / Therefore this itself is pramāṇa — 'what has arisen by svabhāva.'
येक सगुण येक निर्गुण । कोठें लाऊं कर्तेपण ।
या अर्थाचें विवरण । बरें पाहा
yeka saguṇa yeka nirguṇa | koṭhem lāūm kartepaṇa |
yā arthācem vivaraṇa | barem pāhā
One saguṇa, one nirguṇa — where to attach kartṛtva? / The exposition of this meaning — see well.
सगुणें सगुण केलें । तरी तें पूर्वींच आहे जालें ।
निर्गुणास कर्तव्य लाविलें । नवचे कीं कदा
saguṇem saguṇa kelem | tarī tem pūrvīmca āhe jālem |
nirguṇāsa kartavya lāvilem | navace kīm kadā
If saguṇa made saguṇa — then it was already made before. / Kartṛtva attached to nirguṇa — never occurs.
येथें कर्ताचि दिसेना । प्रत्यये आणावा अनुमाना ।
दृश्य सत्यत्वें असेना । म्हणोनियां
yethem kartāci disenā | pratyaye āṇāvā anumānā |
dṛśya satyatvem asenā | mhaṇoniyām
Here kartā does not appear; pratyaya should be brought to inference. / Dṛśya does not exist truly — therefore.
केलें तें अवघेंच लटिकें । तरी कर्ता हें बोलणेंचि फिकें ।
वक्ता म्हणे रे विवेकें । बरें पाहा
kelem tem avaghemca laṭikem | tarī kartā hem bolaṇemci phikem |
vaktā mhaṇe re vivekem | barem pāhā
What was done is all false; then 'kartā' — this speech too is vapid. / The vaktā says: 'O, by vivek — see well.'
बरें पाहाता प्रत्यये आला । तरी कां करावा गल्बला ।
प्रचित आलियां आपणाला । अंतर्यामीं
barem pāhātā pratyaye ālā | tarī kām karāvā galbalā |
pracita āliyām āpaṇālā | amtaryāmīm
On looking well, pratyaya came; then why make a commotion? / When pratīti has come to oneself — within.
आतां असो हें बोलणें । विवेकी तोचि हें जाणे ।
पूर्वपक्ष लागे उडवणें । येरवीं अनुर्वाच
ātām aso hem bolaṇem | vivekī toci hem jāṇe |
pūrvapakṣa lāge uḍavaṇem | yeravīm anurvāca
Now let this speech be; the vivekī alone knows it. / Pūrva-pakṣa must be removed; otherwise anirvācya.
तंव श्रोता करी प्रस्न । देहीं सुखदुःखभोक्ता कोण ।
पुढें हेंचि निरूपण । बोलिलें असे
tamva śrotā karī prasna | dehīm sukhaduḥkhabhoktā koṇa |
puḍhem hemci nirūpaṇa | bolilem ase
Then the listener asks: 'in the body, who is sukha-duḥkha-bhoktā?' / Ahead this nirūpaṇa — has been spoken.
