आत्मयास शेरीरयोगें । उद्वेग चिंता करणें लागे ।
शरीरयोगें आत्मा जगे । हें तों पगटचि आहे
ātmayāsa śerīrayogem | udvega cimtā karaṇem lāge |
śarīrayogem ātmā jage | hem tom pagaṭaci āhe
By the body-yoga, Ātman has to bear agitation and worry. / By body-yoga, Ātman lives — this is clearly so.
देह अन्नचि खायेना । तरी आत्मा कदापि जगेना ।
अत्म्याविण चेतना । देहास कैंची
deha annaci khāyenā | tarī ātmā kadāpi jagenā |
atmyāviṇa cetanā | dehāsa kaimcī
If body does not eat food, Ātman does not live. / Without Ātman, consciousness — whence for the body?
हें येकावेगळें येक । करूं जातां निरार्थक ।
उभयेयोगें कोणीयेक । कार्य चाले
hem yekāvegaḷem yeka | karūm jātām nirārthaka |
ubhayeyogem koṇīyeka | kārya cāle
These — one-without-the-other — doing [so] is meaningless. / By both-together, some — task proceeds.
देहाला नाहीं चेतना । अत्म्यास पदार्थ उचलेना ।
स्वप्नभोजनें भरेना । पोट कांहीं
dehālā nāhīm cetanā | atmyāsa padārtha ucalenā |
svapnabhojanem bharenā | poṭa kāmhīm
Body has no consciousness; Ātman cannot lift objects. / By dream-eating, belly is not filled.
आत्मा स्वप्नावस्थेंत जातो । परंतु देहामध्यें हि असतो ।
निदसुरेपणें खाजवितो । चमत्कार पाहा
ātmā svapnāvasthemta jāto | paramtu dehāmadhyem hi asato |
nidasurepaṇem khājavito | camatkāra pāhā
Ātman goes to dream-state; but is also in body. / In sleep, it scratches — see the marvel.
अन्नरसें वाढे शरीर । शरीरप्रमाणें विचार ।
वृद्धपणीं तदनंतर । दोनी लाहानाळती
annarasem vāḍhe śarīra | śarīrapramāṇem vicāra |
vṛddhapaṇīm tadanamtara | donī lāhānāḷatī
By food-juice, body grows; per body, the consideration. / In old age thereafter — both diminish.
उत्तम द्रव्य देह खातो । देहयोगें आत्मा भुलतो ।
विस्मरणें शुद्धि सांडितो । सकळ कांहीं
uttama dravya deha khāto | dehayogem ātmā bhulato |
vismaraṇem śuddhi sāmḍito | sakaḷa kāmhīm
Body eats excellent substance; by body-yoga, Ātman is deluded. / By forgetfulness, loses awareness — of everything.
देहानें घेतलें वीष । आत्मा जाये सावकास ।
वाढणें मोडणें आत्मयास । नेमस्त आहे
dehānem ghetalem vīṣa | ātmā jāye sāvakāsa |
vāḍhaṇem moḍaṇem ātmayāsa | nemasta āhe
Body took poison; Ātman goes peacefully. / Growth-and-decline for Ātman — rigorously is.
वाढणें मोडणें जाणें येणें । सुख दुःख देहाचेनि गुणें ।
नान प्रकारें भोगणें । आत्मयास घडे
vāḍhaṇem moḍaṇem jāṇem yeṇem | sukha duḥkha dehāceni guṇem |
nāna prakārem bhogaṇem | ātmayāsa ghaḍe
Growth, decline, coming, going; sukha-duḥkha by body's guṇa; / various kinds of bhoga — Ātman bears.
वारुळ म्हणिजे पोकळ । मुंग्यांचे मार्गचि सकळ ।
तैसेंचि हें केवळ । शरीर जाणावें
vāruḷa mhaṇije pokaḷa | mumgyāmce mārgaci sakaḷa |
taisemci hem kevaḷa | śarīra jāṇāvem
An ant-hill means — hollow; paths of ants everywhere. / Likewise this body — know purely.
शरीरीं नाडीच खेटा । नाडीमध्यें पोकळ वाटा ।
लाहान थोर सगटा। दाटल्या नाडी
śarīrīm nāḍīca kheṭā | nāḍīmadhyem pokaḷa vāṭā |
lāhāna thora sagaṭā | dāṭalyā nāḍī
In the body, nāḍīs are bound up; within nāḍīs are hollow paths. / Large-small, all mixed — nāḍīs are packed.
प्राणी अन्नोदक घेतो । त्याचा अन्नरस होतो ।
त्यास वायो प्रवर्ततो । स्वासोस्वासें
prāṇī annodaka gheto | tyācā annarasa hoto |
tyāsa vāyo pravartato | svāsosvāsem
The creature takes food-water; from that, food-juice becomes. / Vāyu operates it — by breath.
नाडीद्वारां धांवे जीवन । जीवनामधें खेळे पवन ।
त्या पवनासरिसा जाण । आत्माहि विवरे
nāḍīdvārām dhāmve jīvana | jīvanāmadhem kheḷe pavana |
tyā pavanāsarisā jāṇa | ātmāhi vivare
Through nāḍīs, life-liquid runs; in the life-liquid plays the wind. / Along with that wind, know — Ātman too examines.
तृषेनें शोकलें शरीर । आत्म्यास कळे हा विचार ।
मग उठवून शरीर । चालवी उदकाकडे
tṛṣenem śokalem śarīra | ātmyāsa kaḷe hā vicāra |
maga uṭhavūna śarīra | cālavī udakākaḍe
By thirst, the body dries; Ātman knows this consideration; / then raising the body — he directs toward water.
उदक मागे शब्द बोलवी । मार्ग पाहोन शरीर चालवी ।
शरीर अवघें च हालवी । प्रसंगानुसार
udaka māge śabda bolavī | mārga pāhona śarīra cālavī |
śarīra avaghem ca hālavī | prasamgānusāra
Asks for water, speaks the word; sees the path, moves the body. / Moves the whole body — appropriate to occasion.
क्षुधा लागते ऐसें जाणतो । मग देहाला उठवितो ।
आच्यावाच्या बोलवितो । ज्यासी त्यासी
kṣudhā lāgate aisem jāṇato | maga dehālā uṭhavito |
ācyāvācyā bolavito | jyāsī tyāsī
He knows 'hunger has come'; then raises the body. / Causes to speak exclamations — to whomever.
बायेकांत म्हणे जालें जालें । देह सोवळें करून आणिलें ।
पायांत भरून चालविलें । तांतडीं तांतडीं
bāyekāmta mhaṇe jālem jālem | deha sovaḷem karūna āṇilem |
pāyāmta bharūna cālavilem | tāmtaḍīm tāmtaḍīm
To wife, says: 'Is it ready?' Brings the body purely. / Makes the feet stride forward — hurriedly.
त्यासी पात्रावरी बैसविलें । नेत्रीं भरोन पात्र पाहिलें।
हाताकरवीं आरंभिलें । आपोशन
tyāsī pātrāvarī baisavilem | netrīm bharona pātra pāhilem |
hātākaravīm ārambhilem | āpośana
Sits down on the plate; fills the eye with the plate; / begins with the hand — the āpoṣaṇa (sipping-ritual).
हाताकरवीं ग्रास उचलवी । मुखी जाऊन मुख पसरवी ।
दातांकरवीं चाववी । नेटें नेटें
hātākaravīm grāsa ucalavī | mukhī jāūna mukha pasaravī |
dātāmkaravīm cāvavī | neṭem neṭem
By the hand, lifts the morsel; into the mouth, opens the mouth; / by the teeth, chews — firmly.
आपण जिव्हेमधें खेळे । पाहातो परिमळसोहळे ।
केंस काडी खडा कळे । तत्काळ थुंकी
āpaṇa jivhemadhem kheḷe | pāhāto parimaḷasohaḷe |
kemsa kāḍī khaḍā kaḷe | tatkāḷa thumkī
Himself plays in the tongue; sees the flavors. / Hair, straw, pebble recognizes — at once spits out.
आळणी कळतां मीठ मागे । बायलेसि म्हणे आगे कांगे ।
डोळे ताऊन पाहों लगे । रागें रागें
āḷaṇī kaḷatām mīṭha māge | bāyalesi mhaṇe āge kāmge |
ḍoḷe tāūna pāhom lage | rāgem rāgem
On bland, asks wife for salt; says 'yes, mother, what'; / heats eyes and looks — angrily.
नाना अन्नचि गोडी । नाना रसें स्वाद निवडी ।
तिखट लागतां मस्तक झाडी । आणी खोंकी
nānā annaci goḍī | nānā rasem svāda nivaḍī |
tikhaṭa lāgatām mastaka jhāḍī | āṇī khomkī
Various food-sweets; various flavors — the tastes distinguished; / when pungent, shakes the head — and coughs.
मिरपुडी घातली फार । कायसें करितें खापर ।
जिव्हेकरवीं कठिणोत्तर । बोलवी रागें
mirapuḍī ghātalī phāra | kāyasem karitem khāpara |
jivhekaravīm kaṭhiṇottara | bolavī rāgem
'Too much pepper; what has the cook done?' / By tongue, harsh retort — speaks angrily.
आज्य उदंड जेविला । सवेंच ता।म्ब्या उचलिला ।
घळघळां घेऊं लागला। सावकास
ājya udamḍa jevilā | savemca tā |mbyā ucalilā |
ghaḷaghaḷām gheūm lāgalā | sāvakāsa
Ate much ghee; immediately lifted the tumbler; / gulp-gulp began to drink — leisurely.
देहीं सुखदुःखभोक्ता । तो येक आत्माचि पाहातां ।
आत्म्याविण देह वृथा । मडें होये
dehīm sukhaduḥkhabhoktā | to yeka ātmāci pāhātām |
ātmyāviṇa deha vṛthā | maḍem hoye
In the body, sukha-duḥkha-bhoktā — is only the one Ātman. / Without Ātman, body is vain — becomes a corpse.
मनाच्या अनंत वृत्ति । जाणणें तेचि आत्मस्थिति ।
त्रैलोकीं जितुक्या वेक्ती । तदांतरीं आत्मा
manācyā anamta vṛtti | jāṇaṇem teci ātmasthiti |
trailokīm jitukyā vektī | tadāmtarīm ātmā
Various vṛttis of mind; knowing is the ātma-sthiti. / In the three worlds, every individual — in their interior is Ātman.
जगामध्यें जगदात्मा । विश्वामधें विश्वात्मा ।
सर्व चालवी सर्वात्मा । नाना रूपें
jagāmadhyem jagadātmā | viśvāmadhem viśvātmā |
sarva cālavī sarvātmā | nānā rūpem
In the jagat is the Jagadātmā; in the Viśva is the Viśvātmā. / All is moved by the Sarvātmā — in various forms.
हुंगे चाखे ऐके देखें । मृद कठिण वोळखे ।
शीत उष्ण ठाउकें । तत्काळ होये
humge cākhe aike dekhem | mṛda kaṭhiṇa voḷakhe |
śīta uṣṇa ṭhāukem | tatkāḷa hoye
Smells, tastes, hears, sees; recognizes soft-hard; / cold-hot is known — at once.
सावधपणें लाघवी । बहुत करी उठाठेवी ।
या धूर्ताच्या उगवी । धूर्तचि करी
sāvadhapaṇem lāghavī | bahuta karī uṭhāṭhevī |
yā dhūrtācyā ugavī | dhūrtaci karī
With alertness, crafty — does much fuss. / The untangling of the clever — only the clever does.
वायोसरिसा परिमळ येतो । परि तो परिमळ वितळोन जातो ।
वायो धुळी घेउनी येतो । परी ते हि जाये
vāyosarisā parimaḷa yeto | pari to parimaḷa vitaḷona jāto |
vāyo dhuḷī gheunī yeto | parī te hi jāye
Along with wind, fragrance comes; but that fragrance dissolves. / Wind brings dust; but it too goes.
शीत उष्ण वायोसरिसें । सुवासें अथवा कुवासें ।
असिजे परी सावकासें । तगणें न घडे
śīta uṣṇa vāyosarisem | suvāsem athavā kuvāsem |
asije parī sāvakāsem | tagaṇem na ghaḍe
Cold-hot along with wind; with fragrance or stench; / may be, yet leisurely — it does not linger.
वायोसरिसे रोग येती । वायोसरिसी भूतें धांवती ।
धूर आणी धुकटें येती । वायोसवें
vāyosarise roga yetī | vāyosarisī bhūtem dhāmvatī |
dhūra āṇī dhukaṭem yetī | vāyosavem
Along with wind come diseases; along with wind, ghosts run; / smoke and mist come — along with wind.
वायोसवें कांहींच जगेना । आत्म्यासवें वायो तगेना ।
आत्म्याची चपळता जाणा । अधिक आहे
vāyosavem kāmhīmca jagenā | ātmyāsavem vāyo tagenā |
ātmyācī capaḷatā jāṇā | adhika āhe
Along with wind, nothing lives; with Ātman, wind does not last. / Ātman's agility, know — is greater.
वायो कठिणास आडतो । आत्मा कठिण भेदून जातो ।
कठिण पाहों तरी तो । छेदेहिना
vāyo kaṭhiṇāsa āḍato | ātmā kaṭhiṇa bhedūna jāto |
kaṭhiṇa pāhom tarī to | chedehinā
Wind is obstructed by hard; Ātman pierces hard. / Hard — if looked — is not cut.
वायो झडझडां वाजे । आत्मा कांहींच न वाजे ।
मोनेंचि अंतरीं समजे । विवरोन पाहातां
vāyo jhaḍajhaḍām vāje | ātmā kāmhīmca na vāje |
monemci amtarīm samaje | vivarona pāhātām
Wind roars loudly; Ātman roars not. / In silence within it is understood — on examining.
शरीरास बरें केलें । तें आत्मयास पावलें ।
शरीरयोगें जालें । समाधान
śarīrāsa barem kelem | tem ātmayāsa pāvalem |
śarīrayogem jālem | samādhāna
When the body is made well, it reaches the Ātman. / By body-yoga has occurred — samādhāna.
देहावेगळे उपाये नाना । करितां आत्मयास पावेना ।
समाधान पावे वासना । देहाचेनि
dehāvegaḷe upāye nānā | karitām ātmayāsa pāvenā |
samādhāna pāve vāsanā | dehāceni
Various means apart from body — on doing, do not reach the Ātman. / Samādhāna is attained by vāsanā — through the body.
देहआत्मयाचें कौतुक । पाहों जातां हें अनेक ।
देहावेगळी आडणुक । आत्मयास होये
dehaātmayācem kautuka | pāhom jātām hem aneka |
dehāvegaḷī āḍaṇuka | ātmayāsa hoye
The delight of body-Ātman — on seeing is many. / Without body, obstruction — comes to Ātman.
येक असतां उदंड घडे । वेगळें पाहातां कांहींच न घडे ।
विवेकें त्रिलोकीं पवाडे । देहात्मयोगें
yeka asatām udamḍa ghaḍe | vegaḷem pāhātām kāmhīmca na ghaḍe |
vivekem trilokīm pavāḍe | dehātmayogem
When one is, much happens; looking separately, nothing happens. / By vivek, in three worlds expansion — by body-Ātman-yoga.
