अस्तिमांशांचीं शरीरें । त्यांत राहिजे जीवेश्वरें ।
नाना विकारीं विकारे । प्रविण होइजे
astimāmśāmcīm śarīrem | tyāmta rāhije jīveśvarem |
nānā vikārīm vikāre | praviṇa hoije
Bodies of flesh-bones, in which jīveśvara dwells; / in various vikāras becoming vikāra — becomes skilled.
घनवट पोंचट स्वभावें । विवरोन जाणिजे जीवें ।
व्हावें न व्हावें आघवें । जीव जाणे
ghanavaṭa pomcaṭa svabhāvem | vivarona jāṇije jīvem |
vhāvem na vhāvem āghavem | jīva jāṇe
Dense, hollow by svabhāva — examine and know by life. / 'Should it become, should it not' — jīva knows.
येंकीं मागमागों घेणें । येकां न मागतांच देणें ।
प्रचीतीनें सुलक्षणें । ओळखावीं
yemkīm māgamāgom gheṇem | yekām na māgatāmca deṇem |
pracītīnem sulakṣaṇem | oḷakhāvīm
Some, asked-and-asked, receive; some, without asking, give. / By pratīti, auspicious-marks — should be recognized.
जीव जीवांत घालावा । आत्मा आत्म्यांत मिसळावा ।
राहराहों शोध घ्यावा । परांतरांचा
jīva jīvāmta ghālāvā | ātmā ātmyāmta misaḷāvā |
rāharāhom śodha ghyāvā | parāmtarāmcā
Put jīva into jīva; mix Ātman with Ātman. / Keep-and-keep searching — the inner-state of others.
जानवें हेंवडकारें जालें । ढिलेपणें हेवड आलें ।
नेमस्तपणें शोभलें । दृष्टीपुढें
jānavem hemvaḍakārem jālem | ḍhilepaṇem hevaḍa ālem |
nemastapaṇem śobhalem | dṛṣṭīpuḍhem
Sacred-thread spread out became pompous; by looseness it went astray; / rigorously it shone — in sight.
तैसेंचि हे मनास मन । विवेकें जावें मिळोन ।
ढिलेपणें अनुमान । होत आहे
taisemci he manāsa mana | vivekem jāvem miḷona |
ḍhilepaṇem anumāna | hota āhe
Likewise mind with mind — should meet through vivek. / By looseness, inference — is occurring.
अनुमानें अनुमान वाढतो । भिडेनें कार्यभाग नासतो ।
याकारणें प्रत्यये तो । आधीं पाहावा
anumānem anumāna vāḍhato | bhiḍenem kāryabhāga nāsato |
yākāraṇem pratyaye to | ādhīm pāhāvā
By inference, inference grows; by pressure, the task spoils. / Therefore pratyaya — should first be seen.
दुसर्याचें जीवीचें कळेना । परांतर तें जाणवेना ।
वश्य होती लोक नाना । कोण्या प्रकारें
dusaryācem jīvīcem kaḷenā | parāmtara tem jāṇavenā |
vaśya hotī loka nānā | koṇyā prakārem
Another's heart-interior is not known; the other-self cannot be known. / Various people become [yours] — in what manner?
आकल सांडून परती । लोक वश्यकर्ण करिती ।
अपूर्णपाणें हळु पडती । ठाईं ठाईं
ākala sāmḍūna paratī | loka vaśyakarṇa karitī |
apūrṇapāṇem haḷu paḍatī | ṭhāīm ṭhāīm
Setting aside grasp, they go aside; people do incantations; / by incompleteness, they fall short — in various places.
जगदीश आहे जगदांतरीं । चेटकें करावीं कोणावरी ।
जो कोणी विवेकें विवरी । तोचि श्रेष्ठ
jagadīśa āhe jagadāmtarīm | ceṭakem karāvīm koṇāvarī |
jo koṇī vivekem vivarī | toci śreṣṭha
Jagadīśa is in the jagad-antara; on whom should magic be done? / He who examines with vivek — he alone is excellent.
श्रेष्ठ कार्ये करी श्रेष्ठ । कृत्रिम करी तो कनिष्ठ ।
कर्मानुसार प्राणी नष्ट । अथवा भले
śreṣṭha kārye karī śreṣṭha | kṛtrima karī to kaniṣṭha |
karmānusāra prāṇī naṣṭa | athavā bhale
The excellent does excellent tasks; the low does contrived [acts]. / Per karma, creatures are wicked — or good.
राजे जाती राजपंथें । चोर जाती चोरपंथें ।
वेडें ठके अल्पस्वार्थें । मूर्खपणें
rāje jātī rājapamthem | cora jātī corapamthem |
veḍem ṭhake alpasvārthem | mūrkhapaṇem
Kings go by royal-paths; thieves by thief-paths; / the fool is cheated by little self-interest — by foolishness.
मूर्खास वाटे मी शहाणा । परी तो वेडा दैन्यवाणा ।
नाना चातुर्याच्या खुणा । चतुर जाणे
mūrkhāsa vāṭe mī śahāṇā | parī to veḍā dainyavāṇā |
nānā cāturyācyā khuṇā | catura jāṇe
The fool thinks 'I am wise'; but he is a pitiable mad one. / The various signs of cāturya — the clever know.
जो जगदांतरे मिळाला । तो जगदांतरचि जाला ।
अरत्रीं परत्रीं तयाला । काय उणें
jo jagadāmtare miḷālā | to jagadāmtaraci jālā |
aratrīm paratrīm tayālā | kāya uṇem
He who united with the jagad-antara — has become jagad-antara itself. / This-world, other-world — what lacks for him?
बुद्धि देणें भगवंताचें । बुद्धिविण माणुस काचें ।
राज्य सांडून फुकाचे । भीक मागे
buddhi deṇem bhagavamtācem | buddhiviṇa māṇusa kācem |
rājya sāmḍūna phukāce | bhīka māge
Buddhi is the gift of Bhagavant; without buddhi, man is raw. / Leaving the kingdom, begs for free — alms.
जें जें जेंथें निर्माण जालं । तें तें तयास मानलें ।
अभिमान देऊन गोविलें । ठाईं ठाईं
jem jem jemthem nirmāṇa jālam | tem tem tayāsa mānalem |
abhimāna deūna govilem | ṭhāīm ṭhāīm
Wherever, whatever arose — to each is accepted. / Given pride, it is entangled — in various places.
अवघेच म्हणती आम्ही थोर । अवघेचि म्हणती आम्ही सुंदर ।
अवघेचि म्हणती आम्ही चतुर । भूमंडळीं
avagheca mhaṇatī āmhī thora | avagheci mhaṇatī āmhī sumdara |
avagheci mhaṇatī āmhī catura | bhūmamḍaḷīm
All say 'we are great'; all say 'we are beautiful'; / all say 'we are clever' — on earth.
ऐसा विचार आणितां मना । कोणीच लाहान म्हणविना ।
जाणते आणिती अनुमाना । सकळ कांहीं
aisā vicāra āṇitām manā | koṇīca lāhāna mhaṇavinā |
jāṇate āṇitī anumānā | sakaḷa kāmhīm
Such consideration brought to mind, no one calls himself small. / The knowing bring to inference — everything.
आपुलाल्या साभिमानें । लोक चालिले अनुमानें ।
परंतु हें विवेकानें । पाहिलें पाहिजे
āpulālyā sābhimānem | loka cālile anumānem |
paramtu hem vivekānem | pāhilem pāhije
By their own self-pride, people proceed by inference. / But this should be seen — by vivek.
लटिक्याचा साभिमान घेणें । सत्य अवघेंच सोडणें ।
मूर्खपणाचीं लक्षणें । ते हे ऐसीं
laṭikyācā sābhimāna gheṇem | satya avaghemca soḍaṇem |
mūrkhapaṇācīm lakṣaṇem | te he aisīm
Taking the self-pride of the false; abandoning all the true — / these are the marks — of foolishness.
सत्याचा जो साभिमान । तो जाणावा निराभिमान ।
न्याये अन्याये समान । कदापि नव्हे
satyācā jo sābhimāna | to jāṇāvā nirābhimāna |
nyāye anyāye samāna | kadāpi navhe
The self-pride that is of the true — know as nirabhimāna. / Justice and injustice — never the same.
न्याये म्हणिजे तो शाश्वत । अन्याये म्हणिजे तो अशाश्वत ।
बाष्कळ आणि नेमस्त । येक कैसा
nyāye mhaṇije to śāśvata | anyāye mhaṇije to aśāśvata |
bāṣkaḷa āṇi nemasta | yeka kaisā
Justice means eternal; injustice means non-eternal. / Mediocre and rigorous — how can they be one?
येक उघड भाग्य भोगिती । येक तश्कर पळोन जाती ।
येकांची प्रगट महंती । येकांची कानकोंडी
yeka ughaḍa bhāgya bhogitī | yeka taśkara paḷona jātī |
yekāmcī pragaṭa mahamtī | yekāmcī kānakomḍī
Some openly enjoy fortune; some flee as thieves; / some have manifest mahantī, some are abashed.
आचारविचारेंविण । जें जें करणें तो तो सीण ।
धूर्त आणि विचक्षण । तेचि शोधावे
ācāravicāremviṇa | jem jem karaṇem to to sīṇa |
dhūrta āṇi vicakṣaṇa | teci śodhāve
Without ācāra-vicāra, whatever is done — is exhaustion. / The cunning and insightful — those should be sought.
उदंड बाजारी मिळाले । परी ते धूर्तेंचि आळिले ।
धूर्तांपासीं कांहीं न चले । बाजार्यांचें
udamḍa bājārī miḷāle | parī te dhūrtemci āḷile |
dhūrtāmpāsīm kāmhīm na cale | bājāryāmcem
Abundant bazaar-folk gathered; but the cunning contain them; / before the cunning, nothing of the bazaar-folk — works.
याकारणें मुख्य मुख्य । तयांसी करावे सख्य ।
येणेंकरितां असंख्य । बाजारी मिळती
yākāraṇem mukhya mukhya | tayāmsī karāve sakhya |
yeṇemkaritām asamkhya | bājārī miḷatī
For this reason, with the chief-chief — friendship should be made. / By this, countless — bazaar-folk gather.
धूर्तासि धूर्तचि आवडे । धूर्त धूर्तींच पवाडे ।
उगेंचि हिंडती वेडे । कार्येंविण
dhūrtāsi dhūrtaci āvaḍe | dhūrta dhūrtīmca pavāḍe |
ugemci himḍatī veḍe | kāryemviṇa
The cunning likes the cunning; cunning endures within cunning; / uselessly wander the fools — without task.
धूर्तासि धूर्तपण कळलें । तेणें मनास मनपण मिळालें ।
परी हें गुप्तरूपें केलें । पाहिजे सर्वे
dhūrtāsi dhūrtapaṇa kaḷalem | teṇem manāsa manapaṇa miḷālem |
parī hem guptarūpem kelem | pāhije sarve
Cunning knew cunning; by that, mind met mind-hood; / but all this should be done — in secret.
समर्थाचें राखतां मन । तेथे येती उदंड जन ।
जन आणि सज्जन । आर्जव करिती
samarthācem rākhatām mana | tethe yetī udamḍa jana |
jana āṇi sajjana | ārjava karitī
Preserving the mind of the powerful — abundant people come there; / common people and sajjanas — do hospitality.
वोळखीनें वोळखी साधावी । बुद्धीनें बुद्धि बोधावी ।
नीतिन्यायें वाट रोधावी । पाषांडाची
voḷakhīnem voḷakhī sādhāvī | buddhīnem buddhi bodhāvī |
nītinyāyem vāṭa rodhāvī | pāṣāmḍācī
By acquaintance, seek acquaintance; by buddhi, enlighten buddhi; / by nīti-nyāya, block the path — of heresy.
वेष धरावा बावळा । अंतरीं असाव्या नाना कळा ।
सगट लोकांचा जिव्हाळा । मोडूं नये
veṣa dharāvā bāvaḷā | amtarīm asāvyā nānā kaḷā |
sagaṭa lokāmcā jivhāḷā | moḍūm naye
Hold a dumb-appearance; inside, hold many arts; / all people's affection — should not be broken.
निस्पृह आणि नित्य नूतन । प्रत्ययाचें ब्रह्मज्ञान ।
प्रगट जाणतां सज्जन । दुल्लभ जगीं
nispṛha āṇi nitya nūtana | pratyayācem brahmajñāna |
pragaṭa jāṇatām sajjana | dullabha jagīm
Niṣpṛha and ever-new; brahma-jñāna of pratyaya; / manifestly knowing — sajjana — rare in the world.
नाना जिनसपाठांतरें निवती सकळांचीं अंतरें ।
चंचळपणें तदनंतरें । सकळां ठाईं
nānā jinasapāṭhāmtarem nivatī sakaḷāmcīm amtarem |
camcaḷapaṇem tadanamtarem | sakaḷām ṭhāīm
Various types of recitations — cool all hearts. / Cañcalatā thereafter — in all places.
येके ठाईं बैसोन राहिला । तरी मग व्यापचि बुडाला ।
सावधपणें ज्याला त्याला । भेटि द्यावी
yeke ṭhāīm baisona rāhilā | tarī maga vyāpaci buḍālā |
sāvadhapaṇem jyālā tyālā | bheṭi dyāvī
If he sat in one place, then enterprise itself sank. / With alertness, to each and every — meet.
भेटभेटों जरी राखणें । हे चातुर्याचीं लक्षणें ।
मनुष्यमात्र उत्तम गुणें । समाधान पावे
bheṭabheṭom jarī rākhaṇem | he cāturyācīm lakṣaṇem |
manuṣyamātra uttama guṇem | samādhāna pāve
To keep meeting — these are the marks of cāturya. / Every person, by excellent guṇa — attains samādhāna.
