रेणूहून सूक्ष्म किडे । त्यांचें आयुष्य निपटचि थोडें ।
युक्ति बुद्धि तेणेंचि पाडें । तयामधें
reṇūhūna sūkṣma kiḍe | tyāmcem āyuṣya nipaṭaci thoḍem |
yukti buddhi teṇemci pāḍem | tayāmadhem
Insects smaller than dust-mote — their lifespan is very little. / Yukti, buddhi — in the same proportion — within them.
ऐसे नाना जीव असती । पाहों जातां न दिसती ।
अंतःकर्णपंचकाची स्थिती । तेथेंचि आहे
aise nānā jīva asatī | pāhom jātām na disatī |
amtaḥkarṇapamcakācī sthitī | tethemci āhe
Such various jīvas exist; on looking are not seen. / The antaḥkaraṇa-pañcaka state — is there itself.
त्यांपुरतें त्यांचें ज्ञान । विषये इंद्रियें समान ।
सूक्ष्म शरीरें विवरोन । पाहातो कोण
tyāmpuratem tyāmcem jñāna | viṣaye imdriyem samāna |
sūkṣma śarīrem vivarona | pāhāto koṇa
To the extent of them is their jñāna; sense-objects-senses equal; / subtle bodies examining — who sees?
त्यास मुंगी माहा थोर । नेणोंचालिला कुंजर ।
मुंगीस मुताचा पूर । ऐसें बोलती
tyāsa mumgī māhā thora | neṇomcālilā kumjara |
mumgīsa mutācā pūra | aisem bolatī
To them, an ant is great; an elephant is unknown; / to ant, urine is a flood — so they say.
तें मुंगीसमान शरीरें । उदंड असती लाहानथोरें ।
समस्तांमध्यें जीवेश्वरें । वस्ति कीजे
tem mumgīsamāna śarīrem | udamḍa asatī lāhānathorem |
samastāmmadhyem jīveśvarem | vasti kīje
Likewise ant-sized bodies — abundant, small and great; / in all of them, jīveśvara — dwells.
ऐसिया किड्यांचा संभार । उदंड दाटला विस्तार ।
अत्यंत साक्षपी जो नर । तो विवरोन पाहे
aisiyā kiḍyāmcā sambhāra | udamḍa dāṭalā vistāra |
atyamta sākṣapī jo nara | to vivarona pāhe
Of such insects the multitude — abundant, packed in expanse; / the extremely attentive person — examines-and-sees.
नाना नक्षत्रीं नाना किडे । त्यांस भासती पर्वतायेवढे ।
आयुष्यहि तेणेंचि पाडें । उदंड वाटे
nānā nakṣatrīm nānā kiḍe | tyāmsa bhāsatī parvatāyevaḍhe |
āyuṣyahi teṇemci pāḍem | udamḍa vāṭe
In various constellations various insects; to them mountains appear; / lifespan too in proportion — seems abundant.
पक्षायेवढें लाहान नाहीं । पक्षायेवढें थोर नाहीं ।
सर्प आणि मछ पाहीं । येणेंचि पाडे
pakṣāyevaḍhem lāhāna nāhīm | pakṣāyevaḍhem thora nāhīm |
sarpa āṇi macha pāhīm | yeṇemci pāḍe
Smaller than bird there is nothing; greater than bird there is nothing; / serpent and fish see — by the same logic.
मुंगीपासून थोरथोरें । चढतीं वाढतीं शरीरें ।
त्यांची निर्धारितां अंतरें । कळों येती
mumgīpāsūna thorathorem | caḍhatīm vāḍhatīm śarīrem |
tyāmcī nirdhāritām amtarem | kaḷom yetī
From ant to great ones — ascending, growing bodies; / on determining their inner-beings — they come to be known.
नाना वर्ण नाना रंग । नाना जीवनाचे तरंग ।
येक सुरंग येक विरंग । किती म्हणौनि सांगावे
nānā varṇa nānā ramga | nānā jīvanāce taramga |
yeka suramga yeka viramga | kitī mhaṇauni sāmgāve
Various varṇas, various rāgas; various waves of life; / some beautiful, some colorless — how many to tell?
येकें सुकुमारें येकें कठोरें। निर्माण केलीं जगदेश्वरें ।
सुवर्णासारिखीं शरीरें । दैदिप्यमानें
yekem sukumārem yekem kaṭhorem | nirmāṇa kelīm jagadeśvarem |
suvarṇāsārikhīm śarīrem | daidipyamānem
Some tender, some hard — created by jagadeśvara. / Gold-like bodies — dazzling.
शरीरभेदें आहारभेदें । वाचाभेदें गुणभेदें ।
अंतरीं वसिजे अभेदें । येकरूपें
śarīrabhedem āhārabhedem | vācābhedem guṇabhedem |
amtarīm vasije abhedem | yekarūpem
By body-bheda, by food-bheda; by speech-bheda, by guṇa-bheda; / within, dwell as abheda — in one-form.
येक त्रासकें येकमारकें। पाहो जातां नाना कौतुकें ।
कितीयेक आमोलिकें । सृष्टीमध्यें
yeka trāsakem yekamārakem | pāho jātām nānā kautukem |
kitīyeka āmolikem | sṛṣṭīmadhyem
Some terrifying, some killing — on seeing, various wonders; / several priceless — in sṛṣṭi.
ऐसीं अवघीं विवरोन पाहे । ऐसा प्राणी कोण आहे ।
आपल्यापरतें जाणोन राहे । किंचितमात्र
aisīm avaghīm vivarona pāhe | aisā prāṇī koṇa āhe |
āpalyāparatem jāṇona rāhe | kimcitamātra
Who is such a creature — that examines all and sees? / Knows beyond oneself only a little — slightly.
नवखंड हे वसुंधरा । सप्तसागरांचा फेरा ।
ब्रह्मांडाबाहेरील नीरा । कोण पाहे
navakhamḍa he vasumdharā | saptasāgarāmcā pherā |
brahmāmḍābāherīla nīrā | koṇa pāhe
The nine-khaṇḍa earth; circuit of seven seas; / water beyond the brahmāṇḍa — who sees?
त्या नीरामध्यें जीव असती । पाहों जातां असंख्याती ।
त्या विशाळ जीवांची स्थिती । कोणजाणे
tyā nīrāmadhyem jīva asatī | pāhom jātām asamkhyātī |
tyā viśāḷa jīvāmcī sthitī | koṇajāṇe
In that water are jīvas; on looking, innumerable. / The state of those vast jīvas — who knows?
जेथें जीवन तेथें जीव । हा उत्पत्तीचा स्वभाव ।
पाहातां याचा अभिप्राव । उदंड असे ।
jethem jīvana tethem jīva | hā utpattīcā svabhāva |
pāhātām yācā abhiprāva | udamḍa ase |
Where there is water, there is jīva — this is the svabhāva of utpatti. / On examining, its purport — is abundant.
पृथ्वीगर्भीं नाना नीरें । त्या नीरामधें शरीरें ।
नाना जिनस लाहानथोरें । कोण जाणें
pṛthvīgarbhīm nānā nīrem | tyā nīrāmadhem śarīrem |
nānā jinasa lāhānathorem | koṇa jāṇem
In the earth's womb various waters; in those waters, bodies; / various kinds, small-and-large — who knows?
येक प्राणी अंतरिक्ष असती । तेहीं नाहीं देखिली क्षिती ।
वरीच्यावरी उडोन जाती । पक्ष फुटल्यानंतरें
yeka prāṇī amtarikṣa asatī | tehīm nāhīm dekhilī kṣitī |
varīcyāvarī uḍona jātī | pakṣa phuṭalyānamtarem
Some creatures are in air; they have not seen earth; / they fly upward-and-upward — after wings emerge.
नाना खेचरें आणि भूचरें । नाना वनचरें आणि जळचरें ।
चौर्यासि योनीप्रकारें । कोण जाणे
nānā khecarem āṇi bhūcarem | nānā vanacarem āṇi jaḷacarem |
cauryāsi yonīprakārem | koṇa jāṇe
Various sky-dwellers, land-dwellers; various forest-dwellers, water-dwellers; / the 84-lakh yoni-kinds — who knows?
उष्ण तेज वेगळे करुनी । जेथें तेथें जीवयोनी ।
कल्पनेपासुनी होती प्राणी । कोण जाणे
uṣṇa teja vegaḷe karunī | jethem tethem jīvayonī |
kalpanepāsunī hotī prāṇī | koṇa jāṇe
Separating the hot-tejas, wherever there are jīva-yonis; / from kalpanā creatures arise — who knows?
येक नाना सामर्थ्यें केले । येक इच्छेपासून जाले ।
येक शब्दासरिसे पावले । श्रापदेह
yeka nānā sāmarthyem kele | yeka icchepāsūna jāle |
yeka śabdāsarise pāvale | śrāpadeha
Some made by various powers; some arose from icchā (will); / some attained by śabda — curse-body.
येक देह बाजीगिरीचे । येक देह वोडंबरीचे।
येक देह देवतांचे । नानाप्रकारें
yeka deha bājīgirīce | yeka deha voḍambarīce |
yeka deha devatāmce | nānāprakārem
Some are juggler-bodies; some oḍambari (magical)-bodies; / some are devatā-bodies — of various kinds.
येक क्रोधापासून जाले । येक तपा पासून जन्मले ।
येक उश्रापें पावले । पूर्वदेह
yeka krodhāpāsūna jāle | yeka tapā pāsūna janmale |
yeka uśrāpem pāvale | pūrvadeha
Some arose from krodha; some were born from tapas; / some attained prior body — by counter-curse.
ऐसें भगवंताचें करणें । किती म्हणौन सांगणें ।
विचित्र मायेच्या गुणें । होत जातें
aisem bhagavamtācem karaṇem | kitī mhaṇauna sāmgaṇem |
vicitra māyecyā guṇem | hota jātem
Such is Bhagavant's doing — how much to tell? / By māyā's wondrous guṇa — happens-and-goes.
नाना अवघड करणी केली । कोणीं देखिली ना ऐकिली ।
विचित्र कळा समजली । पाहिजे सर्वें
nānā avaghaḍa karaṇī kelī | koṇīm dekhilī nā aikilī |
vicitra kaḷā samajalī | pāhije sarvem
Various difficult-makings made — no one has seen or heard. / Wondrous art must be understood — thoroughly.
थोडें बहुत समजलें। पोटापुरती विद्या सिकलें ।
प्राणी उगेंच गर्वें गेलें । मी ज्ञाता म्हणोनी
thoḍem bahuta samajalem | poṭāpuratī vidyā sikalem |
prāṇī ugemca garvem gelem | mī jñātā mhaṇonī
Understood a little; learned vidyā enough for belly; / the creature uselessly with pride — says 'I am a jñātā.'
ज्ञानी येक अंतरात्मा । सर्वांमधें सर्वात्मा ।
त्याचा कळावया महिमा । बुद्धि कैंची
jñānī yeka amtarātmā | sarvāmmadhem sarvātmā |
tyācā kaḷāvayā mahimā | buddhi kaimcī
The one Antarātmā, the jñānī; Sarvātmā within all; / to know his greatness — whence buddhi?
सप्तकंचुक ब्रह्मांड । त्यांत सप्तकंचुक पिंड ।
त्या पिंडामधें उदंड । प्राणी असती
saptakamcuka brahmāmḍa | tyāmta saptakamcuka pimḍa |
tyā pimḍāmadhem udamḍa | prāṇī asatī
Seven-sheath brahmāṇḍa; in it seven-sheath piṇḍa; / in that piṇḍa abundant — creatures exist.
आपल्य देहांतील न कळे । मा तें अवघें कैंचें कळे ।
लोक होती उतावळे । अल्पज्ञानें
āpalya dehāmtīla na kaḷe | mā tem avaghem kaimcem kaḷe |
loka hotī utāvaḷe | alpajñānem
Inside one's own body not known; then how is everything known? / People become eager — with little jñāna.
अनुरेणाऐसें जिनस । त्यांचे आम्ही विराट पुरुष ।
आमचें उदंडचि आयुष्य । त्यांच्या हिसेबें
anureṇāaisem jinasa | tyāmce āmhī virāṭa puruṣa |
āmacem udamḍaci āyuṣya | tyāmcyā hisebem
Dust-mote-like creatures; for them we are virāṭ-puruṣas; / our lifespan is abundant — by their reckoning.
त्यांच्या रिती त्यांचे दंडक । वर्तायाचे असती अनेक ।
जाणे सर्वहि कौतुक । ऐसा कैंचा
tyāmcyā ritī tyāmce damḍaka | vartāyāce asatī aneka |
jāṇe sarvahi kautuka | aisā kaimcā
Their ways, their rules; abundant ways of conducting; / who knows all the delight — is not.
धन्य परमेश्वराची करणी । अनुमानेना अंतःकरणीं ।
उगीच अहंता पापिणी । वेढा लावी
dhanya parameśvarācī karaṇī | anumānenā amtaḥkaraṇīm |
ugīca ahamtā pāpiṇī | veḍhā lāvī
Blessed is Parameśvara's doing; not inferred in antaḥkaraṇa. / Uselessly sinful ahantā — lays the siege.
अहंता सांडून विवरणें । कित्येक देवांचे करणें ।
पाहातां मनुष्याचें जिणें । थोडें आहे
ahamtā sāmḍūna vivaraṇem | kityeka devāmce karaṇem |
pāhātām manuṣyācem jiṇem | thoḍem āhe
Abandoning ahantā, examining — several tasks of Deva; / on examining, a human's life — is little.
थोडें जिणें अर्धपुडी काया । गर्व करिती रडाया ।
शरीर आवघें पडाया । वेळ नाहीं
thoḍem jiṇem ardhapuḍī kāyā | garva karitī raḍāyā |
śarīra āvaghem paḍāyā | veḷa nāhīm
Little life, half-tray body; takes pride to cry; / for body to fall entirely — no time.
कुश्चीळ ठाईं जन्मलें । आणि कुश्चीळ रसेंचि वाढलें।
यास म्हणती थोरलें । कोण्या हिसेबें
kuścīḷa ṭhāīm janmalem | āṇi kuścīḷa rasemci vāḍhalem |
yāsa mhaṇatī thoralem | koṇyā hisebem
Born in filthy place; grown on filthy juice; / calling this 'great' — by what reckoning?
कुश्चीळ आणि क्ष्णभंगुर । अखंड वेथा चिंतातुर ।
लोक उगेच म्हणती थोर । वेडपणें
kuścīḷa āṇi kṣṇabhamgura | akhamḍa vethā cimtātura |
loka ugeca mhaṇatī thora | veḍapaṇem
Filthy and momentary; continuously sick, worried; / people uselessly call 'great' — foolishly.
कायामाया दों दिसांची । आदिअंतीं अवघी ची ची ।
झांकातापा करून उगीचि । थोरीव दाविती
kāyāmāyā dom disāmcī | ādiamtīm avaghī cī cī |
jhāmkātāpā karūna ugīci | thorīva dāvitī
Body-māyā of two days; from beginning to end all 'ci-ci'; / uselessly by covering-hiding — show greatness.
झांकिलें तरी उपंढर पडे । दुर्गंधी सुटे जिकडे तिकडे ।
जो कोणी विवेकें पवाडे । तोचि धन्य
jhāmkilem tarī upamḍhara paḍe | durgamdhī suṭe jikaḍe tikaḍe |
jo koṇī vivekem pavāḍe | toci dhanya
If covered, pus still flows; stench spreads here and there; / he who expands by vivek — he alone is blessed.
उगेंचि कायसा तंडावें । मोडा अहंतेचें पुंडावें ।
विवेकें देवास धुंडावें । हें उत्तमोत्तम
ugemci kāyasā tamḍāvem | moḍā ahamtecem pumḍāvem |
vivekem devāsa dhumḍāvem | hem uttamottama
Why uselessly quarrel? Break the pride of ahantā; / seek Deva by vivek — this is the supreme.
