दुल्लभ शरीरीं दुल्लभ आयुष्य । याचा करूं नये नास ।
दास म्हणे सावकास । विवेक करावा
dullabha śarīrīm dullabha āyuṣya | yācā karūm naye nāsa |
dāsa mhaṇe sāvakāsa | viveka karāvā
Rare is the body, rare is the life; do not waste this. / Das says leisurely — vivek should be done.
न पाहातां उत्तम विवेक । अवघा होतो अविवेक ।
अविवेकें प्राणी रंक । ऐसा दिसे
na pāhātām uttama viveka | avaghā hoto aviveka |
avivekem prāṇī ramka | aisā dise
Without seeing excellent vivek — all becomes avivek; / by avivek the creature becomes wretched — thus appears.
हें आपलें आपण केलें । आळसें उदास नागविलें ।
वाईट संगतीनें बुडविलें । देखत देखतां
hem āpalem āpaṇa kelem | āḷasem udāsa nāgavilem |
vāīṭa samgatīnem buḍavilem | dekhata dekhatām
This is done by oneself; by laziness, apathy stripped bare; / by bad company drowned — in plain sight.
मूर्खपणाचा अभ्यास जाला । बाष्कळपणें घातला घाला ।
काम चांडाळा उठिला । तरुणपणीं
mūrkhapaṇācā abhyāsa jālā | bāṣkaḷapaṇem ghātalā ghālā |
kāma cāmḍāḷā uṭhilā | taruṇapaṇīm
The practice of foolishness arose; by idleness an attack was laid; / kāma-caṇḍāla rose up — in youth.
मूर्ख आळसी आणि तरुणा । सर्वांविषीं दैन्यवाणा ।
कांहीं मिळेना कोणा । काये म्हणावें
mūrkha āḷasī āṇi taruṇā | sarvāmviṣīm dainyavāṇā |
kāmhīm miḷenā koṇā | kāye mhaṇāvem
Foolish, lazy, and young — in everything wretched; / nothing is obtained by anyone — what to say?
जें जें पाहिजे तें तें नाहीं । अन्नवस्त्र तेंहि नाहीं ।
उत्तम गुण कांहींच नाहीं । अंतर्यामीं
jem jem pāhije tem tem nāhīm | annavastra temhi nāhīm |
uttama guṇa kāmhīmca nāhīm | amtaryāmīm
Whatever is needed is not there; food-clothing too is not there; / no excellent virtues at all — within.
बोलतां येना बैसतां येना । प्रसंग कांहींच कळेना ।
शरीर मन हें वळेना । अभ्यासाकडे
bolatām yenā baisatām yenā | prasamga kāmhīmca kaḷenā |
śarīra mana hem vaḷenā | abhyāsākaḍe
Does not know to speak, does not know to sit; no occasion is known; / body, mind does not bend — toward practice.
लिहिणें नाहीं वाचणें नाहीं । पुसणें नाहीं सांगणें नाहीं ।
नेमस्तपणाचा अभ्यास नाहीं । बाष्कळपणें
lihiṇem nāhīm vācaṇem nāhīm | pusaṇem nāhīm sāmgaṇem nāhīm |
nemastapaṇācā abhyāsa nāhīm | bāṣkaḷapaṇem
No writing, no reading; no asking, no telling; / no rigorous practice — by uselessness.
आपणांस कांहींच येना । आणी सिकविलेंहि मानेना ।
आपण वेडा आणि सज्जना । बोल ठेवी
āpaṇāmsa kāmhīmca yenā | āṇī sikavilemhi mānenā |
āpaṇa veḍā āṇi sajjanā | bola ṭhevī
Nothing comes to oneself; and even taught does not accept; / he himself is mad and to the sajjana — assigns blame.
अंतरी येक बाहेरी येक । ऐसा जयाचा विवेक ।
परलोकाचें सार्थक । कैसें घडे
amtarī yeka bāherī yeka | aisā jayācā viveka |
paralokācem sārthaka | kaisem ghaḍe
One within, another without — such is whose vivek; / fulfillment of the other-world — how does it occur?
आपला संसार नासला । मनामधें प्रस्तावला ।
तरी मग अभ्यास केला । पाहिजे विवेकाचा
āpalā samsāra nāsalā | manāmadhem prastāvalā |
tarī maga abhyāsa kelā | pāhije vivekācā
One's samsāra was ruined; within the mind one was remorseful; / then the practice of vivek — must be done.
येकाग्र करूंनिया मन । बळेंचि धरावें साधन ।
येत्नीं आळसाचें दर्शन । होऊंच नये
yekāgra karūmniyā mana | baḷemci dharāvem sādhana |
yetnīm āḷasācem darśana | hoūmca naye
Make the mind one-pointed; forcibly hold the sādhana; / in effort, the appearance of laziness — should not occur.
अवगुण अवघेचि सांडावे । उत्तम गुण अभ्यासावे ।
प्रबंद पाठ करीत जावें । जाड अर्थ
avaguṇa avagheci sāmḍāve | uttama guṇa abhyāsāve |
prabamda pāṭha karīta jāvem | jāḍa artha
Abandon all defects; practice excellent virtues; / continue to recite compositions — profound meanings.
पदप्रबंद श्लोकप्रबंद । नाना धाटी मुद्रा छंद ।
प्रसंगज्ञानेंचि आनंद । होत आहे
padaprabamda ślokaprabamda | nānā dhāṭī mudrā chamda |
prasamgajñānemci ānamda | hota āhe
Pada-compositions, śloka-compositions; various styles, mudras, meters; / by occasion-knowing itself — joy occurs.
कोणे प्रसंगीं काये म्हणावें । ऐसें समजोन जाणावें ।
उगेंचि वाउगें सिणावें । कासयासी
koṇe prasamgīm kāye mhaṇāvem | aisem samajona jāṇāvem |
ugemci vāugem siṇāvem | kāsayāsī
On what occasion what to say — should be understood and known. / Uselessly wearing oneself in vain — for what purpose?
दुसर्याचें अंतर जाणावें । आदर देखोन म्हणावें ।
जें आठवेल तें गावें । हें मूर्खपण
dusaryācem amtara jāṇāvem | ādara dekhona mhaṇāvem |
jem āṭhavela tem gāvem | hem mūrkhapaṇa
Know another's interior; say per what they show respect for; / sing whatever one remembers — this is foolishness.
जयाची जैसी उपासना । तेंचि गावें चुकावेना ।
रागज्ञाना ताळज्ञाना । अभ्यासावें
jayācī jaisī upāsanā | temci gāvem cukāvenā |
rāgajñānā tāḷajñānā | abhyāsāvem
Whoever's upāsanā whatever — sing that, do not miss; / rāga-jñāna, tāḷa-jñāna — should be practiced.
साहित संगीत प्रसंग मानें । करावीं कथेंचीं घमशानें ।
अर्थांतर श्रवणमननें । काढीत जावें
sāhita samgīta prasamga mānem | karāvīm kathemcīm ghamaśānem |
arthāmtara śravaṇamananem | kāḍhīta jāvem
Literature, music, occasion-measures — should do the churning of kathā; / meaning-depths by śravaṇa-manana — should continue to draw out.
पाठ उदंडचि असावें । सर्वकाळ उजळीत जावें ।
सांगितलें गोष्टीचें असावें । स्मरण अंतरीं
pāṭha udamḍaci asāvem | sarvakāḷa ujaḷīta jāvem |
sāmgitalem goṣṭīcem asāvem | smaraṇa amtarīm
Should have abundant recitation; should continue to review at all times; / of instructions-given should be — remembrance within.
अखंड येकांत सेवावा । ग्रन्थमात्र धांडोळावा ।
प्रचित येईल तो घ्यावा । अर्थ मनीं
akhamḍa yekāmta sevāvā | granthamātra dhāmḍoḷāvā |
pracita yeīla to ghyāvā | artha manīm
Should serve unbroken solitude; search through only-texts; / what pratyaya comes, that should be taken — meaning in mind.
