जनाचा लालची स्वभाव । आरंभीं म्हणती देव ।
म्हनिजे मला कांहीं देव । ऐसी वासना
janācā lālacī svabhāva | ārambhīm mhaṇatī deva |
mhanije malā kāmhīm deva | aisī vāsanā
People's svabhāva is greedy; at the start they say 'Deva'; / meaning 'Deva gives me something' — such is the vāsanā.
कांहींच भक्ती केली नस्तां । आणी इछिती प्रसन्नता ।
जैसें कांहींच सेवा न करिता। स्वामीस मागती
kāmhīmca bhaktī kelī nastām | āṇī ichitī prasannatā |
jaisem kāmhīmca sevā na karitā | svāmīsa māgatī
Without any bhakti done, yet desires pleased-ness; / as without any service — one asks of the master.
कष्टेंविण फळ नाहीं । कष्टेंविण राज्य नाहीं ।
केल्याविण होत नाहीं । साध्य जनीं
kaṣṭemviṇa phaḷa nāhīm | kaṣṭemviṇa rājya nāhīm |
kelyāviṇa hota nāhīm | sādhya janīm
Without labor, no fruit; without labor, no kingdom; / without doing, nothing happens — sādhya among people.
आळसें काम नसतें । हें तों प्रत्ययास येतें ।
कष्टाकडे चुकावितें । हीन जन
āḷasem kāma nasatem | hem tom pratyayāsa yetem |
kaṣṭākaḍe cukāvitem | hīna jana
By laziness, no work — this comes to pratyaya; / from labor turns away — the low people.
आधीं कष्टाचें दुःख सोसिति । ते पुढें सुखाचें फळ भोगिती ।
आधीं आळसें सुखावती । त्यासी पुढें दुःख
ādhīm kaṣṭācem duḥkha sositi | te puḍhem sukhācem phaḷa bhogitī |
ādhīm āḷasem sukhāvatī | tyāsī puḍhem duḥkha
Those who first bear the pain of labor — ahead enjoy sukha-fruit; / those who first comfort with laziness — to them ahead comes duḥkha.
येहलोक अथवा परलोक । दोहिंकडे सारिखाच विवेक ।
दीर्घ सूचनेचें कौतुक । कळलें पाहिजे
yehaloka athavā paraloka | dohimkaḍe sārikhāca viveka |
dīrgha sūcanecem kautuka | kaḷalem pāhije
This-world or other-world; on both sides the same vivek; / long-range signal's delight — should be known.
मेळविती तितुकें भक्षिती । ते कठीण काळीं मरोन जाती ।
दीर्घ सूचनेनें वर्तती । तेचि भले
meḷavitī titukem bhakṣitī | te kaṭhīṇa kāḷīm marona jātī |
dīrgha sūcanenem vartatī | teci bhale
Those who eat only what they gather — die at hard-times; / those who live by long-range signal — they are the good.
येहलोकींचा संचितार्थ । परलोकींचा परमार्थ ।
संचितेंविण वेर्थ । जीत मेलें
yehalokīmcā samcitārtha | paralokīmcā paramārtha |
samcitemviṇa vertha | jīta melem
This-world's accumulated wealth; other-world's paramārtha; / without accumulation, vain — alive-or-dead.
येकदां मेल्यानें सुटेना । पुन्हा जन्मोजन्मीं यातना ।
आपणास मारी वांचविना । तो आत्महत्यारा
yekadām melyānem suṭenā | punhā janmojanmīm yātanā |
āpaṇāsa mārī vāmcavinā | to ātmahatyārā
Dying once does not release; again birth-after-birth torment; / he who kills himself — is self-killer.
प्रतिजन्मीं आत्मघात । कोणें करावें गणीत ।
याकारणें जन्ममृत्य । केवी चुके
pratijanmīm ātmaghāta | koṇem karāvem gaṇīta |
yākāraṇem janmamṛtya | kevī cuke
Self-killing birth-after-birth — who can count? / For this reason, birth-death — how does it escape?
देव सकळ कांहीं करितो । ऐसें प्राणीमात्र बोलतो ।
त्याचे भेटीचा लाभ तो । अकस्मात जाला
deva sakaḷa kāmhīm karito | aisem prāṇīmātra bolato |
tyāce bheṭīcā lābha to | akasmāta jālā
'Deva does everything' — every creature speaks so; / the gain of meeting him — happens suddenly.
विवेकाच लाभ घडे । जेणें परमात्मा ठाईं पडे ।
विवेक पाहातां सांपडे । विवेकीं जनीं
vivekāca lābha ghaḍe | jeṇem paramātmā ṭhāīm paḍe |
viveka pāhātām sāmpaḍe | vivekīm janīm
Gain of vivek happens — by which Paramātmā falls in place; / on looking with vivek, he is found — in vivekī people.
देव पाहातां आहे येक । परंतु करितो अनेक ।
त्या अनेकास येक । म्हणों नये कीं
deva pāhātām āhe yeka | paramtu karito aneka |
tyā anekāsa yeka | mhaṇom naye kīm
On looking, Deva is one; but he does many; / to that 'many' 'one' — should not be called.
देवाचें कर्तुत्व आणि देव । कळला पाहिजे अभिप्राव ।
कळल्याविण कितेक जीव । उगेच बोलती
devācem kartutva āṇi deva | kaḷalā pāhije abhiprāva |
kaḷalyāviṇa kiteka jīva | ugeca bolatī
Deva's doership and Deva — the purport must be known; / without knowing, several jīvas — uselessly speak.
उगेच बोलती मूर्खपणें । शाहाणपण वाढायाकारणें ।
त्रुप्तिलागीं उपाव करणें । ऐसें जालें
ugeca bolatī mūrkhapaṇem | śāhāṇapaṇa vāḍhāyākāraṇem |
truptilāgīm upāva karaṇem | aisem jālem
Uselessly speak by foolishness; for growing wisdom; / means for contentment — such it has become.
जेहीं उदंड कष्ट केले । ते भाग्य भोगून ठेले ।
येर ते बोलतचि राहिले । करंटे जन
jehīm udamḍa kaṣṭa kele | te bhāgya bhogūna ṭhele |
yera te bolataci rāhile | karamṭe jana
Those who did abundant labor — are the bhāgya-vants; / the rest remained only speaking — wretched people.
करंट्याचें करंट लक्षण । समजोन जाती विचक्षण ।
भरल्याचें उत्तम लक्षण । करंट्यास कळेना
karamṭyācem karamṭa lakṣaṇa | samajona jātī vicakṣaṇa |
bharalyācem uttama lakṣaṇa | karamṭyāsa kaḷenā
The wretch's wretched mark; the insightful know and leave; / the full one's excellent mark — is not known to the wretch.
त्याची पैसावली कुबुद्धी । तेथें कैंची असेल शुद्धी ।
कुबुद्धी तेचि सुबुद्धी । ऐसी वाटे
tyācī paisāvalī kubuddhī | tethem kaimcī asela śuddhī |
kubuddhī teci subuddhī | aisī vāṭe
His bad-buddhi has spread; there whence purity? / Bad-buddhi is good-buddhi — so it seems.
मनुष्य शुद्धीस सांडावें । त्याचें काये खरें मानावें ।
जेथें विचाराच्या नावें । सुन्याकार
manuṣya śuddhīsa sāmḍāvem | tyācem kāye kharem mānāvem |
jethem vicārācyā nāvem | sunyākāra
Abandon a man's purity; what truth to accept? / Where in the name of consideration — is śūnyākāra.
विचारें येहलोक परलोक । विचारें होतसे सार्थक ।
विचारें नित्यानित्य विवेक । पाहिला पाहिजे
vicārem yehaloka paraloka | vicārem hotase sārthaka |
vicārem nityānitya viveka | pāhilā pāhije
By vicāra, this-world, other-world; by vicāra, fulfillment occurs; / by vicāra, nitya-anitya-vivek — must be seen.
