ब्रह्म निराकार निश्चळ । आत्म्यास विकार चंचळ ।
तयास म्हणती सकळ । देव ऐसें
brahma nirākāra niścaḷa | ātmyāsa vikāra camcaḷa |
tayāsa mhaṇatī sakaḷa | deva aisem
Brahma is nirākāra, niścala; Ātmā has vikāra, cañcala; / he is called by all — 'Deva.'
देवाचा ठावचि लागेना । येक देव नेमस्त कळेना ।
बहुत देवीं अनुमानेना । येक देव
devācā ṭhāvaci lāgenā | yeka deva nemasta kaḷenā |
bahuta devīm anumānenā | yeka deva
Deva's place cannot be located; one Deva is not rigorously known; / in many devas, not inferred — as one Deva.
म्हणोनी विचार असावा । विचारें देव शोधावा ।
बहुत देवांचा गोवा । पडोंचि नये
mhaṇonī vicāra asāvā | vicārem deva śodhāvā |
bahuta devāmcā govā | paḍomci naye
Therefore consideration must be; by consideration Deva should be searched; / many devas' entanglement — should not fall into.
देव क्षत्रीं पाहिला । त्यासारिखा धातूचा केला ।
पृथ्वीमधें दंडक चालिला । येणें रीतीं
deva kṣatrīm pāhilā | tyāsārikhā dhātūcā kelā |
pṛthvīmadhem damḍaka cālilā | yeṇem rītīm
Deva was seen in a shrine; a metal made like him; / on earth-globe a rule proceeded — in this manner.
नाना प्रतिमादेवांचें मूळ । तो हा क्षत्रदेवचि केवळ ।
नाना क्षत्रें भूमंडळ । शोधून पाहावें
nānā pratimādevāmcem mūḷa | to hā kṣatradevaci kevaḷa |
nānā kṣatrem bhūmamḍaḷa | śodhūna pāhāvem
Various image-devas' root — is this shrine-deva only; / various shrines on earth-globe — should be searched-and-seen.
क्षत्रदेव पाषाणाचा । विचार पाहातां तयाचा ।
तंत लागला मुळाचा । अवताराकडे
kṣatradeva pāṣāṇācā | vicāra pāhātām tayācā |
tamta lāgalā muḷācā | avatārākaḍe
Shrine-deva is of stone; on examining its consideration; / a thread reached to the root — to the avatāra.
अवतारी देव संपले । देहे धरुनी वर्तोन गेले ।
त्याहून थोर अनुमानले । ब्रह्मा विष्णु महेश
avatārī deva sampale | dehe dharunī vartona gele |
tyāhūna thora anumānale | brahmā viṣṇu maheśa
Avatāra-devas are done; held bodies and conducted; / greater than them inferred — Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Maheśa.
त्या तिही देवांस ज्याची सत्ता । तो अंतरात्माचि पाहातां ।
कर्ता भोक्ता तत्वता । प्रतक्ष आहे
tyā tihī devāmsa jyācī sattā | to amtarātmāci pāhātām |
kartā bhoktā tatvatā | pratakṣa āhe
The three devas whose authority they are under — / on looking, is the Antarātmā alone; / kartā, bhoktā truly — directly is.
युगानयुगें तिन्ही लोक । येकचि चालवी अनेक ।
हा निश्चयाचा विवेक । वेदशास्त्रीं पाहावा
yugānayugem tinhī loka | yekaci cālavī aneka |
hā niścayācā viveka | vedaśāstrīm pāhāvā
Aeon-after-aeon, three worlds; the one operates many; / this certainty's vivek — should be seen in Veda-śāstra.
आत्मा वर्तवितो शरीर । तोचि देव उत्तरोत्तर ।
जाणीवरूपें कळिवर । विवेकें वर्तवी
ātmā vartavito śarīra | toci deva uttarottara |
jāṇīvarūpem kaḷivara | vivekem vartavī
Ātmā operates body; he himself is Deva ascending; / by knowing-form the vessel — he operates by vivek.
तो अंतर्देव चुकती । धांवा घेऊन तीर्था जाती ।
प्राणी बापुडे कष्टती । देवास नेणतां
to amtardeva cukatī | dhāmvā gheūna tīrthā jātī |
prāṇī bāpuḍe kaṣṭatī | devāsa neṇatām
That antar-deva they miss; make pilgrimages to tīrthas; / wretched creatures labor — not knowing Deva.
मग विचारिती अंतःकर्णीं । जेथें तेथें धोंडा पाणी ।
उगेंचि वणवण हिंडोनि । काये होतें
maga vicāritī amtaḥkarṇīm | jethem tethem dhomḍā pāṇī |
ugemci vaṇavaṇa himḍoni | kāye hotem
Then they consider within: stones-waters wherever; / uselessly wandering aimlessly — what happens?
ऐसा ज्यासी विचार कळला । तेणें सत्संग धरिला ।
सत्संगें देव सांपडला । बहुत जनासी
aisā jyāsī vicāra kaḷalā | teṇem satsamga dharilā |
satsamgem deva sāmpaḍalā | bahuta janāsī
He to whom consideration is known — he held sat-sanga; / by sat-sanga, Deva was found — to many people.
ऐसीं हे विवेकाचीं कामें । विवेकी जाणतील नेमें ।
अविवेकी भुलले भ्रमें । त्यांस हें कळेना
aisīm he vivekācīm kāmem | vivekī jāṇatīla nemem |
avivekī bhulale bhramem | tyāmsa hem kaḷenā
Such are the tasks of vivek; the vivekīs know rigorously; / the avivekīs deluded by bhrama — do not know this.
अंतरवेधी अंतर जाणे । बाहेरमुद्रा कांहींच नेणें ।
म्हणोन विवेकी शाहणे । अंतर शोधिती
amtaravedhī amtara jāṇe | bāheramudrā kāmhīmca neṇem |
mhaṇona vivekī śāhaṇe | amtara śodhitī
Interior-penetrator knows interior; outer-mudrā knows nothing; / therefore vivekī, wise — search the interior.
विवेकेंविण जो भाव । तो भावचि अभाव ।
मुर्खस्य प्रतिमा देव । ऐसें वचन
vivekemviṇa jo bhāva | to bhāvaci abhāva |
murkhasya pratimā deva | aisem vacana
Faith without vivek — is itself abhāva (non-being); / 'image is Deva for the fool' — such is the saying.
पाहात समजत सेवटा गेला । तोचि विवेकी भला ।
तत्वें सांडुनी पावला । निरंजनीं
pāhāta samajata sevaṭā gelā | toci vivekī bhalā |
tatvem sāmḍunī pāvalā | niramjanīm
Who examining-understanding reaches the end — he is the proper vivekī; / abandoning tattvas has attained — the nirañjana.
आरे जें आकारासी येतें । तें अवघेंच नासोन जतें ।
मग गल्बल्यावेगळें तें । परब्रह्म जाणावें
āre jem ākārāsī yetem | tem avaghemca nāsona jatem |
maga galbalyāvegaḷem tem | parabrahma jāṇāvem
O, what comes to form — all perishes; / then beyond commotion — know as para-brahma.
चंचळ देव निश्चळ ब्रह्म । परब्रह्मीं नाहीं भ्रम ।
प्रत्ययज्ञानें निभ्रम । होईजेतें
camcaḷa deva niścaḷa brahma | parabrahmīm nāhīm bhrama |
pratyayajñānem nibhrama | hoījetem
Cañcala Deva, niścala Brahma; in para-brahma no delusion; / by pratyaya-jñāna becomes — delusion-free.
प्रचीतीविण जें केलें । तें तें अवघें वेर्थ गेलें ।
प्राणी कष्टकष्टोंचि मेलें । कर्मकचाटें
pracītīviṇa jem kelem | tem tem avaghem vertha gelem |
prāṇī kaṣṭakaṣṭomci melem | karmakacāṭem
Without pratīti what is done — all went in vain; / the creature labor-and-labor died — by karma-jumble.
कर्मावेगळें न व्हावें । तरी देवास कासया भजावें ।
विवेकी जाणती स्वभावें । मूर्ख नेणे
karmāvegaḷem na vhāvem | tarī devāsa kāsayā bhajāvem |
vivekī jāṇatī svabhāvem | mūrkha neṇe
Not to become apart from karma — then why worship Deva? / The vivekīs know by svabhāva — the fool does not.
कांहीं अनुमानलें विचारें । देव आहे जगदांतरें ।
सगुणाकरितां निर्धारें । निर्गुण पाविजे
kāmhīm anumānalem vicārem | deva āhe jagadāmtarem |
saguṇākaritām nirdhārem | nirguṇa pāvije
Some inferred by vicāra — Deva is in jagad-antara; / by saguṇa with certainty — nirguṇa is attained.
सगुण पाहातां मुळास गेला । सहजचि निर्गुण पावला ।
संगत्यागें मोकळा जाला । वस्तुरूप
saguṇa pāhātām muḷāsa gelā | sahajaci nirguṇa pāvalā |
samgatyāgem mokaḷā jālā | vasturūpa
Saguṇa examining went to root; spontaneously nirguṇa was attained; / by association-renunciation became free — as vastu-form.
परमेश्वरीं अनुसंधान । लावितां होईजे पावन ।
मुख्य ज्ञानेंचि विज्ञान । पाविजेतें
parameśvarīm anusamdhāna | lāvitām hoīje pāvana |
mukhya jñānemci vijñāna | pāvijetem
Attaching anusandhāna to Parameśvara — becomes pāvana; / chiefly by jñāna, vijñāna — is attained.
ऐसीं हे विवेकाचीं विवर्णें । पाहावीं सुचित अंतःकर्णें ।
नित्यानित्य विवेकश्रवणें । जगदोधार
aisīm he vivekācīm vivarṇem | pāhāvīm sucita amtaḥkarṇem |
nityānitya vivekaśravaṇem | jagadodhāra
Such are vivek's expositions; should be seen with alert antaḥkaraṇa; / by nitya-anitya-vivek-śravaṇa — jagad-uddhāra.
