कथेचें घमंड भरून द्यावें । आणी निरूपणीं विवरावें ।
उणें पडोंचि नेदावें । कोणीयेकविषीं
kathecem ghamamḍa bharūna dyāvem | āṇī nirūpaṇīm vivarāvem |
uṇem paḍomci nedāvem | koṇīyekaviṣīm
Fill in the tumult of kathā; and examine in nirūpaṇa; / do not let lack fall — on any matter.
भेजणार खालें पडिला । तो भेजणारी जाणितला ।
नेणता लोक उगाच राहिला । टकमकां पाहात
bhejaṇāra khālem paḍilā | to bhejaṇārī jāṇitalā |
neṇatā loka ugāca rāhilā | ṭakamakām pāhāta
The swimmer fell below; the swim-master was known; / the ignorant people stood idle — gaping.
उत्तर विलंबीं पडिलें । श्रोतयांस कळों आलें ।
म्हणिजे महत्व उडालें । वक्तयाचें
uttara vilambīm paḍilem | śrotayāmsa kaḷom ālem |
mhaṇije mahatva uḍālem | vaktayācem
Answer fell delayed; listeners came to know; / greatness flew off — of the vaktā.
थोडें बोलोनि समाधान करणें । रागेजोन तरी मन धरणें ।
मनुष्य वेधींच लावणें । कोणीयेक
thoḍem boloni samādhāna karaṇem | rāgejona tarī mana dharaṇem |
manuṣya vedhīmca lāvaṇem | koṇīyeka
Speaking little, making samādhāna; or angry yet holding mind; / engage the person — someone.
सोसवेना चिणचिण केली । तेथें तामसवृत्ती दिसोन आली ।
आवघी आवडी उडाली । श्रोतयाची
sosavenā ciṇaciṇa kelī | tethem tāmasavṛttī disona ālī |
āvaghī āvaḍī uḍālī | śrotayācī
Could not bear, made fuss; there tamas-vṛtti appeared; / all the affection flew off — of the listener.
कोण कोण राजी राखिले । कोण कोण मनी भंगिले ।
क्षणक्षणा परीक्षिले । पाहिजे लोक
koṇa koṇa rājī rākhile | koṇa koṇa manī bhamgile |
kṣaṇakṣaṇā parīkṣile | pāhije loka
Who whom was kept happy; whose mind was broken; / moment-by-moment examine — the people.
शिष्य विकल्पें रान घेत । गुरु मागें मागें धांवतो ।
विचार पाहों जातां तो । विकल्पचि अवघा
śiṣya vikalpem rāna gheta | guru māgem māgem dhāmvato |
vicāra pāhom jātām to | vikalpaci avaghā
Śiṣya takes to the wilderness by vikalpa; guru runs after him; / on looking at consideration — that is all vikalpa.
आशाबद्धी क्र्यियाहीन । नाहीं च्यातुर्याचें लक्षण ।
ते महंतीची भणभण । बंद नाहीं
āśābaddhī kryiyāhīna | nāhīm cyāturyācem lakṣaṇa |
te mahamtīcī bhaṇabhaṇa | bamda nāhīm
Bound by greed, action-less; no marks of cāturya; / that mahant-buzzing — has no bond.
ऐसे गोसावी हळु पडती । ठाईं ठाईं कष्टी होती ।
तेथें संगतीचे लोक पावती । सुख कैचें
aise gosāvī haḷu paḍatī | ṭhāīm ṭhāīm kaṣṭī hotī |
tethem samgatīce loka pāvatī | sukha kaicem
Such gosāvīs become lesser; become afflicted everywhere; / there companionship-people attain — whence sukha?
जिकडे तिकडे कीर्ति माजे । सगट लोकांस हव्यास उपजे ।
लोक राजी राखोन कीजे । सकळ कांहीं
jikaḍe tikaḍe kīrti māje | sagaṭa lokāmsa havyāsa upaje |
loka rājī rākhona kīje | sakaḷa kāmhīm
Wherever kīrti grows; all people's zeal arises; / keep people pleased and do — everything.
परलोकीं वास करावा । समुदाव उगाच पाहावा ।
मागण्याचा तगादा न लवावा । कांहीं येक
paralokīm vāsa karāvā | samudāva ugāca pāhāvā |
māgaṇyācā tagādā na lavāvā | kāmhīm yeka
Should dwell in the other-world; simply watch the community; / do not urge with demands — anything.
जिकडे जग तिकडे जगन्नायेक । कळला पाहिजे विवेक ।
रात्रीदिवस विवेकी लोक । सांभाळीत जाती
jikaḍe jaga tikaḍe jagannāyeka | kaḷalā pāhije viveka |
rātrīdivasa vivekī loka | sāmbhāḷīta jātī
Wherever world is, there Jagannāyaka; vivek must be known; / night-and-day vivekī people — continue to care.
जो जो लोक दृष्टीस पडिला । तो तो नष्ट ऐसा कळला ।
अवघेच नष्ट येकला भला । काशावरुनी
jo jo loka dṛṣṭīsa paḍilā | to to naṣṭa aisā kaḷalā |
avagheca naṣṭa yekalā bhalā | kāśāvarunī
Whatever person falls on sight — all known as wicked; / all wicked, one good — on what basis?
वोस मुलकीं काये पाहावें । लोकांवेगळें कोठें राहावें ।
तऱ्हे खोटी सांडतें घ्यावें । कांहीं येक
vosa mulakīm kāye pāhāvem | lokāmvegaḷem koṭhem rāhāvem |
taṟhe khoṭī sāmḍatem ghyāvem | kāmhīm yeka
In a desolate land what to see? Apart from people where to remain? / Abandon false manner — take something.
तस्मात लोकिकीं वर्ततां नये । त्यास महंती कामा नये ।
परत्र साधनाचा उपाये । श्रवण करून असावें
tasmāta lokikīm vartatām naye | tyāsa mahamtī kāmā naye |
paratra sādhanācā upāye | śravaṇa karūna asāvem
Therefore does not know to conduct worldly; mahantī should not be undertaken; / should remain hearing — means of other-world-sādhana.
आपणासी बरें पोहतां नये । लोक बुडवावयाचें कोण कार्य ।
गोडी आवडी वायां जाये । विकल्पचि अवघा
āpaṇāsī barem pohatām naye | loka buḍavāvayācem koṇa kārya |
goḍī āvaḍī vāyām jāye | vikalpaci avaghā
Cannot swim for oneself; what task to drown people? / Sweetness, affection go in vain — all is vikalpa.
अभ्यासें प्रगट व्हावें । नाहीं तरी झांकोन असावें ।
प्रगट होऊन नासावें । हें बरें नव्हे
abhyāsem pragaṭa vhāvem | nāhīm tarī jhāmkona asāvem |
pragaṭa hoūna nāsāvem | hem barem navhe
Should manifest by practice; or remain covered; / manifest and ruining — this is not good.
मंद हळु हळु चालतो । चपळ कैसा अटोपतो ।
अरबी फिरवणार तो । कैसा असावा
mamda haḷu haḷu cālato | capaḷa kaisā aṭopato |
arabī phiravaṇāra to | kaisā asāvā
Slow slowly walks; how does the agile contain? / The Arab-horse rider — how should he be?
हे धकाधकीचीं कामें । तिक्षण बुद्धीचीं वर्में ।
भोळ्या भावार्थें संभ्रमें । कैसें घडे
he dhakādhakīcīm kāmem | tikṣaṇa buddhīcīm varmem |
bhoḷyā bhāvārthem sambhramem | kaisem ghaḍe
These are tasks of pushing-and-shoving; sharp-buddhi's secrets; / simple-bhāva with pomp — how does it occur?
सेत केलें परी वाहेना । जवार केलें परी फिरेना ।
जन मेळविलें परी धरेना । अंतर्यामीं
seta kelem parī vāhenā | javāra kelem parī phirenā |
jana meḷavilem parī dharenā | amtaryāmīm
Field is made but does not bear; well is made but does not rotate; / people gathered but not held — within.
जरी चढती वाढती आवडी उठे । तरी परमार्थ प्रगटे ।
घसघस करितां विटे । सगट लोकु
jarī caḍhatī vāḍhatī āvaḍī uṭhe | tarī paramārtha pragaṭe |
ghasaghasa karitām viṭe | sagaṭa loku
If ascending-growing love arises — then paramārtha manifests; / by grating-rubbing grows disgust — among common folk.
आपलें लोकांस मानेना । लोकांचें आपणांस मानेना ।
अवघा विकल्पचि मना । समाधान कैचें
āpalem lokāmsa mānenā | lokāmcem āpaṇāmsa mānenā |
avaghā vikalpaci manā | samādhāna kaicem
Own is not accepted by people; people's not accepted by self; / all is vikalpa to mind — whence samādhāna?
नासक दीक्षा सिंतरु लोक । तेथें कैचा असेल विवेक ।
जेथें बळावला अविवेक । तेथें राहणें खोटें
nāsaka dīkṣā simtaru loka | tethem kaicā asela viveka |
jethem baḷāvalā aviveka | tethem rāhaṇem khoṭem
Spoiled dīkṣā, hypocritical people; there whence is vivek? / Where aviveka has grown strong — staying there is false.
बहुत दिवस श्रम केला । सेवटीं अवघाचि वेर्थ गेला ।
आपणास ठाकेना गल्बला । कोणें करावा
bahuta divasa śrama kelā | sevaṭīm avaghāci vertha gelā |
āpaṇāsa ṭhākenā galbalā | koṇem karāvā
Much time labored; at the end all went in vain; / commotion does not stop for oneself — who should do?
संगीत चालिला तरी तो व्याप । नाहीं तरी अवघाचि संताप ।
क्षणक्षणा विक्षेप । किती म्हणौनि संगावा
samgīta cālilā tarī to vyāpa | nāhīm tarī avaghāci samtāpa |
kṣaṇakṣaṇā vikṣepa | kitī mhaṇauni samgāvā
If going with enjoyment, that is enterprise; otherwise all is torment; / moment-by-moment obstructions — how much to tell?
मूर्ख मूर्खपणें भरंगळती । ज्ञातेपणें कऴो करिती ।
होते दोहींकडे फजिती । लोकांमधें
mūrkha mūrkhapaṇem bharamgaḷatī | jñātepaṇem kaḻo karitī |
hote dohīmkaḍe phajitī | lokāmmadhem
Fools blunder by foolishness; knower-folk make commotion; / there is shame on both sides — among people.
कारबार आटोपेना करवेना । आणि उगेंहि राहेना ।
याकारणें सकळ जना । काये म्हणावें
kārabāra āṭopenā karavenā | āṇi ugemhi rāhenā |
yākāraṇem sakaḷa janā | kāye mhaṇāvem
Affairs cannot be managed or done; and cannot remain idle; / therefore to all people — what to say?
नासक उपाधीस सोडावें । वय सार्थकीं घालावें ।
परिभ्रमणें कंठावें । कोठें तरी
nāsaka upādhīsa soḍāvem | vaya sārthakīm ghālāvem |
paribhramaṇem kamṭhāvem | koṭhem tarī
Abandon defective upādhi; put age to fulfillment; / spend in wandering — somewhere.
परिभ्रमण करीना । दुसर्याचें कांहींच सोसीना ।
तरी मग उदंड यतना । विकल्पाची
paribhramaṇa karīnā | dusaryācem kāmhīmca sosīnā |
tarī maga udamḍa yatanā | vikalpācī
Does not wander; does not bear anything of another; / then abundant torment — of vikalpa.
आतां हें आपणाचिपासीं । बरें विचारावें आपणासी ।
अनुकुळ पडेल तैसी । वर्तणूक करावी
ātām hem āpaṇācipāsīm | barem vicārāvem āpaṇāsī |
anukuḷa paḍela taisī | vartaṇūka karāvī
Now this to oneself — should be examined well; / as is favourable — should conduct.
