On looking at earth-globe — water in various places; / several are pure plateau — earth without water.
Rāmdās opens with an everyday observation: scanning the earth, water appears in many places, yet some stretches are pure, dry plateau entirely without water. This ordinary contrast sets up the analogy that follows — that the visible world, like the earth, is unevenly touched by conscious knowing.
Notice that not every part of your experience is equally 'alive' with awareness — some moments are vivid and registered, others pass by unnoticed — and start paying attention to the dry patches.

taisem dṛśya vistāralem | kāmhīmyeka jāṇivenem śobhalem |
jāṇīvarahita uralem | kītīyeka dṛśya
Likewise dṛśya has expanded; somewhat adorned with knowing; / knowing-less remained — several dṛśya.
In the same way — continuing 20.6.001's earth-and-water image — the visible world (dṛśya) has spread out: some of it is adorned by conscious knowing, while a good deal of it remains without any such knowing at all.
Distinguish the parts of your day that you actually experience consciously from the parts that simply happen to you unnoticed, and try to shrink the second category.

Four wombs, four speeches; 84-lakh jīva-yonis; / all fixed in śāstra — has been spoken.
Śāstra fixes the scope of embodied life precisely: four wombs (egg-born, womb-born, sweat-born, sprout-born), four kinds of speech, and eighty-four lakh species (jīva-yoni) — a traditional total for the whole of animate creation.
Hold traditional numerical schemes like this one lightly, as a way of gesturing at the sheer scale of life, rather than as figures you must verify.

Rāmdās cites a verse dividing that total into categories — nine lakh water-born, ten lakh birds, eleven lakh worms and insects, twenty lakh cattle and similar, thirty lakh immobile beings, and four lakh humans — noting only an equal balance of merit and sin brings a soul to human birth.
Remember that traditional cosmology counts humans as a small fraction of all beings — let that scale correct any sense of self-importance.

dāhā lakṣa te khecara | nava lakṣa jaḷacara |

Ten lakh sky-dwellers; nine lakh water-dwellers; / thirty lakh immobiles — spoken in śāstra.
The count continues: ten lakh sky-dwellers, nine lakh water-dwellers, and thirty lakh immobile beings — completing the śāstra's traditional tally begun in 20.6.004.
Use enumerations like this one as a discipline of humility about scale, not as facts to argue over.

Such 84-lakh yonis; as many as there are, are knowing creatures; / endless body-arrangements — what limit?
Whatever the precise count of these eighty-four lakh species, every one of them is a knowing creature to some degree — and the arrangements of endless bodies go on without any fixed limit.
Extend basic respect to every living creature you encounter today, on the grounds that some degree of awareness is present in all of them.

Endless creatures come-and-go; their foundation is the earth; / apart from earth, state — where for them?
Endless creatures continually arise and pass; their common foundation is the earth itself — there is no separate condition for them apart from this shared ground.
Remember what you share with every other living being — the same ground of existence — before treating any creature as wholly other.

Ahead on looking, five elements — reached the clear state; / some present, some — simply exist.
Looking further, the five elements have reached their settled, distinct state; some are actively present and functioning, others simply exist without active manifestation.
Notice that not everything present in you is currently active — some capacities lie dormant, waiting, rather than gone.

The recognition of Antarātmā — is where there is agility; / the foundation of knowing — alertly hear.
The mark of the Antarātmā (inner self) is precisely this: wherever there is agility, quickness, responsiveness — that is where knowing has its foundation. Rāmdās asks the listener to attend carefully to this point.
Locate your own inner responsiveness — the quick, alert part of you — and treat that, not any fixed idea about yourself, as the seat of real awareness.

Sukha-duḥkha-knowing jīva; likewise should be known Sadāśiva; / antaḥkaraṇa-pañcaka is wondrous — a portion of Ātmā.
Just as the jīva (individual soul) knows pleasure and pain, so should Sadāśiva be understood in the same way; the fivefold inner faculty (antaḥkaraṇa-pañcaka) is itself a wondrous portion of the Ātmā.
When you notice pleasure or pain arising, recognize the same knowing capacity operating there as in the highest reality — don't treat ordinary feeling as separate from the sacred.

sthuḷīm ākāśāce guṇa | amśa ātmayāce jāṇa |
satva raja tamoguṇa | guṇa ātmayāce
In sthūla, guṇas of ākāśa; portions of Ātmā, know; / sattva-rajas-tamo-guṇa — virtues of Ātmā.
The qualities of ākāśa (space) present in the gross body are themselves portions of Ātmā; likewise sattva, rajas, and tamas — the three guṇas — are virtues belonging to Ātmā. This begins the samāsa's long list of things Rāmdās calls virtues of the Ātmā.
When you notice restlessness, clarity, or heaviness in yourself, see them as expressions of the same underlying Self rather than as separate forces at war.

Various siftings, various resolves; nava-vidhā bhakti, catur-vidhā mukti; / aloofness, sahaja-sthiti — virtues of Ātmā.
Various forms of discrimination and resolve, the nine modes of devotion and the four kinds of liberation, and the quality of detachment amid natural ease — all are counted as virtues of the Ātmā.
Practice one form of devotion today — remembrance, service, listening, singing — and note that, per this text's ninefold list, any sincere form counts.

Dṛṣṭā, sākṣī, jñāna-ghana; sattā, caitanya, ancient; / śravaṇa, manana, vivaraṇa — virtues of Ātmā.
The witness, the observer, the dense mass of knowing, ancient being and consciousness itself, and the disciplined practice of hearing, reflecting, and investigating are all virtues of the Ātmā.
Build the threefold discipline named here into your study — hear the teaching, reflect on it, then investigate it for yourself — rather than stopping at just hearing.

Rāmdās lists the classic threefold structures of experience — the seen, the seer, and seeing; the meditated-on, the meditator, and meditation; the known, the knower, and knowledge — as virtues of the Ātmā.
When absorbed in any activity, notice these three parts — the object, the doer, the act — collapsing into one; that collapse is itself a taste of what's being described here.

Veda-śāstra-purāṇa's meaning; hidden paramārtha proceeds; / sarvajña-ness, samartha — virtues of Ātmā.
The inner meaning of Veda, śāstra, and Purāṇa is that the highest goal (paramārtha) proceeds hiddenly; the capacity for omniscience and mastery is likewise a virtue of the Ātmā.
Look past the literal stories in scripture for the hidden thread running through them, rather than treating scripture as only surface narrative.

Bound, mumukṣu, sādhaka, siddha; consideration should be pure; / bodha and prabodha — virtues of Ātmā.
The four stages of the seeker — bound, one who desires liberation, practitioner, and the accomplished — call for pure discernment; both ordinary understanding and its deepened form are virtues of the Ātmā.
Honestly place yourself on this fourfold ladder today, and take the next concrete step appropriate to where you actually stand, not where you wish you stood.

Jāgṛti, svapna, suṣupti, turyā; prakṛti-puruṣa, mūla-māyā; / piṇḍa, brahmāṇḍa, aṣṭa-kāyā — virtues of Ātmā.
The four states of consciousness — waking, dream, deep sleep, and the fourth — along with prakṛti-puruṣa, root-māyā, and the eightfold body composed of piṇḍa and brahmāṇḍa, are all virtues of the Ātmā.
Notice that awareness persists through waking, dreaming, and deep sleep alike — that continuity, not any one state, is the more reliable clue to who you are.

Paramātmā and Parameśvarī; Jagadātmā and Jagadeśvarī; / Maheśa and Māheśvarī — virtues of Ātmā.
The many names for the Supreme in both male and female form — Paramātmā and Parameśvarī, Jagadātmā and Jagadeśvarī, Maheśa and Māheśvarī — are, in the end, all virtues of the one Ātmā being described throughout this list.
When you encounter divine imagery in a form or gender unfamiliar to you, look through the name to the same single reality it is pointing toward.

Subtle, whatever name-form — all is Ātmā's svarūpa; / signal-name-designations abundant — have no limit.
Whatever subtle name and form exists, all of it is the very nature (svarūpa) of the Ātmā; the number of designations and signals used to point at it is limitless and has no boundary.
Don't get stuck arguing over which name or label for the sacred is correct — the text says the designations are innumerable by design.

The primal power (ādi-śakti), Śiva-śakti, the chief root-māyā that is all-power, and the arising and abiding of every kind of category (jinas) — all of these are counted as virtues of the Ātmā.
See the creative energy behind any new beginning in your life — a project, a relationship, a habit — as a local instance of this same universal creative power.

Even intellectual activities — the opponent's position and the established conclusion in debate, and music, singing and playing — along with countless wondrous fields of knowledge, are virtues of the Ātmā.
Bring full attention to a debate, a piece of music, or a skill you're learning today — treat that engaged capacity itself as worthy of respect, not merely useful.

Knowledge, ignorance, and even distorted knowledge; wrong tendency and right tendency; and pure awareness untouched by any of it — all, even the negative-seeming ones, are virtues of the Ātmā.
When you catch yourself in confusion or error, remember that even the capacity to be mistaken is evidence of an underlying awareness — use it as a starting point for correction, not shame.

The individual body and the cosmos can be laid out as a tree of principles (tattva), and the various tattvas can be judged and distinguished; this openly visible process of consideration is itself a virtue of the Ātmā.
When facing a complex problem, lay it out systematically like a family tree of causes, rather than trying to hold it all in your head at once.

Various forms of meditation and sustained inner connection, various states and forms of knowledge, and the complete, undivided offering of oneself are all virtues of the Ātmā.
Choose one form of meditation or remembrance and hold it as a continuous thread through your day, rather than practicing only in isolated bursts.

Even the traditional mythic tallies — thirty-three crore gods, eighty-eight thousand great sages, and countless spirits and sky-dwellers — are folded into this list as virtues of the Ātmā, since everything that exists ultimately expresses it.
Let the sheer scale of these traditional numbers humble your sense of your own importance, rather than taking them as literal headcounts to verify.

Similarly, the fearsome hosts — countless ghost-spirits, forms of Cāmuṇḍā, and forms of Kātyāyanī — are, however alarming, still counted as virtues of the Ātmā; nothing, however forceful, escapes this single source.
When you encounter something frightening or destructive in life, remember the text's claim that even it ultimately traces back to the same one source — this can steady you without minimizing real danger.

The heavens themselves — moon, sun, star-clusters, the many constellations and celestial spheres, and mythic supports of the world like Śeṣa and Kūrma, and the clouds — are also virtues of the Ātmā.
Look up at sky or stars tonight and let the vastness point you back to the same awareness present in you, rather than to distance and insignificance.

Gods, demons, humans, and every kind of living being — and on close examination, existence and non-existence themselves — are all virtues of the Ātmā.
Extend the same basic regard to people you find difficult as to those you admire — this text places both categories in the same single source.

Ātmā's various virtues; Brahma is nirvikāra, nirguṇa; / knowing-localized-full — virtues of Ātmā.
Having listed the Ātmā's many virtues, Rāmdās clarifies the limit of the exercise: Brahma itself is nirvikāra (unchanging) and nirguṇa (without attributes); any 'knowing' of it through a list of qualities is necessarily partial, even when thorough within its own scope.
Treat any list, teaching, or description of ultimate reality — including this one — as a partial pointer, useful but never the whole truth itself.

nisamdehe anuṣṭhanā | ṭhāvaci nāhīm
Ātmārāma upāsanā; by that attained nirañjana; / doubt-free, anuṣṭhāna — has no place.
The samāsa closes by naming the actual practice implied by this whole catalogue: worship and remembrance of Ātmārāma leads one to nirañjana, the utterly stainless state; once doubt is gone, there is no more room left for formal ritual observance — the goal has been reached.
Let the point of listing all these attributes be devotion, not memorization — turn today's reading into a few minutes of quiet remembrance rather than mere study.
