Kānhōbā's-surrender-protest. Good — you know dharma-nīti — uchita-and-anuchita, Śrīpati — (you) can-do (things) at night, with eyes closed. Now (the) answer — what and how — give (it), Jagadīśa. (You) have brought-an entanglement around yourself. For (our) sevā's sukha, (you) held un-knowing by force; (the answer) will come — but this bhāva — its cause (lies) with the responsible. No — now to us, no word — embedded in (your) feet — you-yourself have-taken. The verse permits the bhakta's-softer-surrender within-continued-protest.
The verse
बरा जाणतोसी धर्मनीती । उचित अनुचित श्रीपती। करूं येते राती । ऐसी डोळे झांकूनि ॥१॥
आतां जाब काय कैसा । देसी तो दे जगदीशा । आणिला वोळसा । आपणां भोंवता ॥ध्रु.॥
सेवेचिया सुखास्तव । बळें धरिलें अज्ञानत्व । येइल परि हा भाव । ज्याचा त्यासी कारणा ॥२॥
तुकयाबंधु म्हणे नाहीं । आतां आम्हां बोल कांहीं । जडोनियां पायीं । तुझे त्वां चि घेतलें ॥३॥
Literal translation
Barā jāṇatōsī dharma-nītī — (sarcastic-)good — you know dharma-nīti; uchita anuchita Śrīpatī — uchita and anuchita, Śrīpati; karūm yete rātī — (you) can-do (things) at rātī (night); aisī ḍōḷe jhānkūnī — with eyes jhānkūnī (closed). Ātām jāba kāya kaisā — now (the) jāba (answer) — what (and) how; desī tō de Jagadīśā — give it, Jagadīśa; āṇilā vōḷasā āpaṇām bhōmvatā — (you) have brought (a) vōḷasā (entanglement) around yourself. Seveñciyā sukhāstava — for the sukha of (our) sevā; baḷe dharile ajñānatva — (you) held ajñānatva (un-knowing, pretended-ignorance) by force; yeila parī hā bhāva — (the answer) will come — but this bhāva; jyāñcā tyāsī kāraṇā — its kāraṇa (cause) (lies) with the one (responsible). Tukyā-bandhu mhaṇe nāhī — ātām āmhām bōla kāmhī — Tukārām's-brother says: no — now to us, no word; jaḍōnīyām pāyī — tujhe tvām chi ghētale — embedded in (your) feet — you-yourself have-taken (it).
What it means
A 3-verse surrender-protest by Tukyā-bandhu. NON-Tukārām.
The bhakta-brother's tone-has-softened-(slightly): no-more-words from-us; we're-embedded-in-your-feet; you-yourself-have-taken-(everything). The Lord-is-still-accused-of pretending-ignorance at-night with-eyes-closed and bringing-the-entanglement on-himself; but the closing acknowledges that you-yourself-took; we have nothing-more-to-say. (Pairs with 2987's mature-closing — the cluster oscillates between extreme-protest and-mature-surrender.)
