Kānhōbā's-showdown-demand. Much speaking is of no use — vain, Puruṣōttama. By one word to us — what is to be said — say. Is it giving or fighting? — say, brother. Now no modesty — no-one holds (any) at all. What has gone in the past — let it be — (I) don't hold (it) in (my) mind. Now ahead from here — how (and) what (is) the consideration? Not all the time is alike — this is known to all. The clamor we make — that will remain. The verse permits the bhakta's-direct-demand for-clarity.
The verse
Literal translation
Bahu bōlaṇe nye kāmā — much speaking is of no use; vāuga te Puruṣōttamā — it is vāuga (vain), Puruṣōttama; ekā-chi vachane āmhām — by one vachana (word) to us; kāya sāngaṇe te sānga — what is to be said — say. Deṇe āhe kī bhāṇḍāī — is it (a matter of) giving or fighting?; karaṇe āhe sānga bhāī — what is to be done — say, brother; ātām bhīḍa kāmhī kōṇī na dharī sarvathā — now no bhīḍa (modesty) — no-one holds (any) at all. Māge gele je hōunī — what has gone in the past; asō te dharita nāhī manī — let it be — (I) don't hold (it) in (my) mind; ātām puḍhe yethūnī — kaisā kāya vichāra — now ahead from here — how (and) what (is) the vichāra? Sārakhī nāhī avaghī veḷa — he tōm kaḷate sakaḷa — not all (the) time is alike — this is known to all; tukayā-bandhu mhaṇe khaḷa-khaḷa — karāvī te uralela — Tukārām's-brother says: the khaḷa-khaḷa (clamor) we make — that will remain.
What it means
A 3-verse showdown-demand by Tukyā-bandhu. NON-Tukārām.
The bhakta-brother demands-clarity: will-you-give-(back-the-brother)-or-fight? Speak one word. The tone is let-the-past-be; what-now-forward? The closing-claim: our khaḷa-khaḷa (clamor-of-protest) will-remain-on-record.
