Eat only what real hunger asks for, let discipline serve its true purpose and nothing more, and guard carefully whatever has been entrusted to you.
The verse
भूक पोटापुरती । तृष्णा भरवी वाखती । करवी फजीती । हांवें भार वाढला ॥१॥
कुळिकेसी लांस फांस । डोईं दाढी बोडवी दोष । अविहितनाश । करवी वजन चुकतां ॥ध्रु.॥
विधिसेवनें विहितें । कार्यकारणापुरतें । न वाटे तो चित्तें । अधमांच्या तो त्यागी ॥२॥
आज्ञापालणें ते सेवा । भय धरोनियां जीवा । तुका म्हणे ठेवा । ठेविला तो जतन ॥३॥
Literal translation
Bhūka belly-only; trṣṇā fills-pot, makes-phajitī, hāve grows in-bhāra. Kuḷika's-lās-phāsa, head-and-beard-shaved by-doṣa, avihita-nāśa when-vajana-mistaken. Vidhi-sevana-viśita is-for-kāryakāraṇa-only — beyond, the-adhama-tyāgī. Ājñā-pālaṇa is sevā, with-bhaya-in-jīva. Tukā: keep what's-stored, jatana.
