Tukārām's vigil-resolve. Only then, Deva — by making a trade of jīva. Here I have sat in vigil — firm with body-speech-mind. The mental-stream has been restrained; the mana taken in hand. Aging — I will not let (it) come outside (my) house. The verse permits the bhakti-dharaṇē-vigil as life-jīva-trade.
The verse
तरीं च म्यां देवा । साटी करूनियां जीवा ॥१॥
येथें बैसलों धरणें । दृढ कायावाचामनें ॥ध्रु.॥
आवरिल्या वृित्त । मन घेउनियां हातीं ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे जरा । बाहेर येऊं नेदीं घरा ॥३॥
Literal translation
Tarīm chi myām Devā — only-then, by me, Deva; sāṭī karūnīyām jīvā — by making a sāṭā of jīva. Yethe baisalōm dharaṇe — here I have sat in dharaṇē; drḍha kāyā-vāchā-mane — firm with kāyā-vāchā-mana. Āvariḷyā vrtti — the vrtti restrained; mana gheunīyām hātīm — (taking) the mana in hand. Tukā mhaṇe jarā — Tukā says: jarā; bāhera yeūm nedīm gharā — I won't let (it) come outside (my) house.
What it means
A short 3-verse resolve by Tukārām. The bhakta sits-in-vigil (dharaṇē, the Vārkarī sit-and-fast-at-deity's-door practice), having traded-jīva-for-darśana, with all-three-faculties (kāyā-vāchā-mana) firmly-locked. The closing-image: won't-let-jarā (aging, decay) come-outside-the-house — the bhakta-claims to-have-locked-jarā-inside the-walls-of-bhakti-discipline; aging-cannot-come-public.
