Abhanga 3649
Do not let a small matter turn into a drawn-out entanglement; choose resolution and letting go, because closeness and longing grow once things are actually settled.
The verse
Literal translation
Kām hō vāḍavitām Devā — why are you prolonging, Deva; maja gharī samajāvā — settle-(me) at home; kevaḍā hō gōvā — how-much this twisting; phāra kele thōḍyāñce — small (made) much. Ṭhevina pāyāmvarī ḍōī — (I) will place head on feet; yāsī tumache veche kāī — no cost to you; jālōm utarāī — we have become debt-free; jāṇā ekekāñche — recognize each (other). Nivāḍa āpaṇiyāmpāśīm — the nivāḍa is with yourself; asōna kām hvāve apesī — being so, why be humiliated; hōtī gāṇṭhī taisī — the knot that was; sōḍūnīyām ṭhevilī — loosened and left. Tukā mhaṇe gōḍa — Tukā says: (it is) sweet; hōte jāliyā nivāḍa — once nivāḍa happens; darśane hī chāḍa — the chāḍa of darśana; āvaḍī cha vāḍhela — fondness will only grow.
What it means
A plea-for-resolution. Tukārām asks: resolve-this-at-home; head-on-feet costs-you-nothing; we-are-debt-free; once-nivāḍa-happens, fondness-grows.
For someone today
Tukaram pleads with God to stop dragging things out and just settle the matter, pointing out how a small thing has been turned into a tangled ordeal. He offers total surrender, bowing his head at God's feet, and reminds God that resolving this costs nothing on God's side. He urges letting go of the knot between them rather than nursing it, because once things are actually resolved, longing and love only grow stronger. This is a lesson about ending unnecessary delay and choosing resolution over prolonged tension.
