The bhakti-objection: Lord's-character should-not-include evasion.
Tukārām's protest-against-Lord's-evasion
The verse
Literal translation
Aisā tamva mōḷā, tumachā nasela Gōpāḷā — such a scheme is not yours, Gōpāḷā. Māgatyāñcī tāḷāṭāḷī, jhiñjyā oḍhōnī kapāḷīm — evasion of pleader, hair-tufts pulled on forehead. Nasela nā nave, aise dhariyele deve — not new — this Deva has held. Tukā mhaṇe jālā, uśīra nāhī tō Viṭhṭhalā — Tukā says: there's a delay — that's not (the way), Viṭhṭhala.
What it means
A protest. Tukārām says evasion-isn't-your-way, Gōpāḷā; the-pleader-shouldn't-be-shamed; no-delay-now.
