Abhanga 3655
When you are too exhausted to go further, it is enough to let your need be known and trust that comfort and presence will come.
The verse
Literal translation
Ghālūnī lōḷaṇī paḍilōm angaṇīm — rolling, (I) have lain in courtyard; simchā simchavaṇī tīrtha vari — sprinkle tīrtha-water over. Vōlhāvela tanu hōīmla śītaḷa — body will cool; jālī haḷahaḷa bahutāpe — (I) had haḷahaḷa from many burnings. Pāvena yā ṭhāyā kaī jāle hōte — when did I reach this place; ālōm avachite uṣṭyāvari — came suddenly on uṣṭyā. Tukā mhaṇe kōṇī jāṇavā rāuḷī — Tukā says: someone announce in temple; yeila javaḷī Pāṇḍuranga — Pāṇḍuranga will come near.
What it means
The bhakta-in-the-courtyard: I've-fallen rolling; sprinkle me-with-tīrtha-water; I've-burned; someone-go-tell-Pāṇḍuranga-in-the-temple-he'll-come-near.
For someone today
Tukaram paints himself utterly spent, lying rolled up on the ground in the courtyard, asking simply to be sprinkled with sacred water to cool his burning distress. He does not fully understand how he ended up here, arriving suddenly and humbly, worn down by so much inner heat and hardship. All he asks is that someone let Pandurang know he is here, trusting that presence and comfort will follow once word gets through. Sometimes you are too exhausted to approach directly, and all you can do is let your need be known and trust help will come.
