The verse

Literal translation

What it means

A all-pāpas-formed-into-one-Śakti-upāsaka-his-viṭāḷa-not-on-my-body-no-fear-of-pāpa abhang. Anti-Śakti-upāsaka register. Three claims:

1. अवघ्या-पापें-घडला-एक — Śakti-उपासक — त्याचा-विटाळ-नको-अंगा — Pāṇḍuranga माझ्या. All-pāpas-into-one-Śakti-upāsaka-don't-touch-claim. All pāpas combined-into-one — that is the Śakti-upāsaka; don't let his viṭāḷa (impurity, defilement) come onto my body — my *Pāṇḍuranga. Śakti-upāsaka-is-pile-of-all-pāpas; don't-let-him-touch-the-bhakta.

2. काम-क्रोध-मद्य-अंगीं — अवगुणी-रंगीं-रंगला. Kāma-krōdha-madya-on-body-color-of-avaguṇa-claim. Kāma-krōdha-madya (lust-anger-alcohol) on the body — colored (rangalā) with the ranga (color) of avaguṇa (faults). Body-stained-with-kāma-krōdha-madya-and-avaguṇa-color.

3. Tuka: करितां-पाप-न-धरी-शंका — कोणी-ही. No-fear-of-pāpa-claim. Tuka says: doing pāpa, he holds no śankā (fear, hesitation, doubt); kōṇī hī (no-one — (no-one-else-would-act-thus / he doesn't-fear-anyone)). No-shame-no-fear-anywhere.

For today: the Śakti-upāsaka (here, the antinomian-tāntrika who follows-Śakti with the pañca-makāra practice) is all pāpas-formed-into-one; his viṭāḷa shouldn't touch the bhakta's body — my Pāṇḍuranga; kāma-krōdha-madya are on his body, colored with avaguṇa; he does pāpa without any śankā — no-one-(else)-would-act-so.

This abhang is Tukaram's anti-Śakti-upāsaka-and-his-viṭāḷa-not-on-my-body register — one of the harshest anti-Śākta-tāntrika-statements. Compare 0785 Śākta-donkey-piles-of-pāpa-Bhagavatī-takes-him (Tuka's mudra); same anti-Śākta-polemic but here adding the don't-let-his-viṭāḷa-on-my-body exclusion. The avaghyā pāpē ghaḍalā ēka (all pāpas formed into one) is the precise summary-charge.
