Abhanga 973

Tukaram surrenders to God's playful will, trusting that God already knows his inner state, and discovers that contentment itself, not explanation or control, is what finally sets a restless mind free.

When what shall I tell — You don't know? — You have a fondness for the talk — and you have to recognize this register
When You make me a truant in play, Viśvambhara — and you accept this image
When do as You please, knowing the inner-residence — and you allow this image

For someone today

This verse is about letting go of the need to explain yourself. Tukaram asks what more there is to say, since God already knows everything, yet seems to simply delight in the back and forth of the conversation itself, in this playful relationship. Instead of resenting being led along and kept wandering, Tukaram surrenders and tells God to do as God pleases, since God already knows exactly what is happening inside him. The real turning point comes through contentment itself, it is inner acceptance, not more explaining or a better outcome, that finally frees a restless mind.
