Abhanga 2292
When formal rituals feel too hard to follow, simple trusting devotion remains the easy path, and God is actively calling out to help the faithful.
The verse
Literal translation
All paths have become weak in kali — sādhana doesn't happen — fitting rules and rituals — not known, not done at all. The bhakti-path is very easy — to make pāpa naked by puṇya — coming-going trips — are stopped by this alone. Raising the arms, Viṭho is waving his pallav — 'I am the helper of the dāsas' — speaks with his own mouth. The bhāvika and the trusting — they have crossed — Tukā says: destruction is on the kutarkya's forehead.

What it means
Bhakti-path-easy-in-kali + Viṭho-waves-pallav + faithful-cross-kutarkya-doomed abhang.
The opening — paths-weak-in-kali: avaghyā vāṭā jhālyā kṣīṇa kaḷīm na ghaḍē sādhana — uchita vidhi vidhāna na kaḷē na ghaḍē sarvathā — all paths have become weak in kali — sādhana doesn't happen — fitting rules-rituals — not known, not done at all. Kaḷī = Kali-yuga. In Kali-yuga, all-paths-have-become-weak; sādhana-doesn't-happen; rules-and-rituals are-neither-known-nor-followed.
The bhakti-path easy: bhakti-pantha bahu sōpā puṇya nāgavayā pāpā — yēṇē jāṇē khēpā yēṇē chi ēka khaṇḍatī — the bhakti-path is very easy — to make pāpa naked by puṇya — coming-going trips — are stopped by this alone. The bhakti-path is-very-easy; to-strip-pāpa-bare-by-puṇya; the samsāra-trips (births-deaths) are-stopped-by-this-alone. The Kali-yuga-specific easy-bhakti-path.
THE VIṬHO-WAVING-PALLAV IMAGE: ubhārōni bāhē Viṭhō pālavīta āhē — dāsām mī chi sāhē mukhē bōlē āpulyā — raising the arms, Viṭho is waving his pallav — 'I am the helper of the dāsas' — speaks with his own mouth. Bāhē = arms. Pālava = pallav, the end-of-the-cloth used to wave or beckon. Viṭho is-raising-his-arms, waving-his-pallav (beckoning the bhaktas); 'I am the helper of the dāsas' — he speaks with his own mouth. A beautiful animated-image — Viṭhṭhal at-Pandharī, standing-with-arms-raised-and-pallav-waving, calling-the-bhaktas with-his-own-voice.
The closing — faithful-cross, kutarkya-doomed: bhāvika viśvāsī pāra utarilē tyāmsī — Tukā mhaṇē nāsī kutarkyāchē kapāḷīm — the bhāvika and the trusting — they have crossed — Tukā says: destruction is on the kutarkya's forehead. Kutarkya = the bad-arguer, the skeptic. The bhāvika-and-trusting have-crossed; the kutarkya (skeptic)-has-destruction on-his-forehead.

For someone today
For today: paths weak in kali — sādhana doesn't happen; bhakti-path very easy — puṇya makes pāpa naked — samsāra-trips stopped; Viṭho raises arms, waves pallav — 'I am the dāsas' helper'; bhāvika trusting have crossed — kutarkya doomed.
Where this applies
- When rigid rules and rituals feel impossible to get exactly right
- When you doubt whether a simple, unadorned faith is really enough
- When cynicism or over-analysis is keeping you from trusting anything
- When you need reassurance that you're not struggling toward God alone
