Abhanga 2291
No grand act, whether charity, scripture study, pilgrimage, or penance, equals simply saying the Name, so say it night and day.

समुद्रवळयांकित पृथ्वीचें दान । करितां समान न ये नामा ॥१॥ म्हणऊनि कोणीं न करावा आळस । म्हणा रात्रीदिवस रामराम ॥ध्रु.॥ सकळ ही शास्त्रें पठण करतां वेद । सरी नये गोविंदनाम एकें ॥२॥ सकळ ही तीर्थी प्रयाग काशी । करितां नामाशीं तुळेति ना ॥३॥ कर्वतीं कर्मरीं देहासी दंडण । करितां समान नये नामा ॥४॥ तुका म्हणे ऐसा आहे श्रेष्ठाचार । नाम हें चि सार विठोबाचें ॥५॥
Literal translation
Giving the ocean-girdled earth as dāna — doesn't equal the Name. Therefore no one should be lazy — say night-and-day Rāma-Rāma. Reciting all the śāstras, the Veda — doesn't equal a single Govinda-Name. All the tīrthas, Prayāga, Kāśī — don't weigh against the Name. Sawing, [other karma]penance — deha-daṇḍana — doesn't equal the Name. Tuka says: such is the supreme conduct — the Name is the essence of Viṭhobā.

THE NAME EXCEEDS: 1. Earth-as-dāna (verse 1): samudra-vaḷayānkita pṛthvīchē dāna — karitām samāna na yē nāmā — giving the ocean-girdled earth as dāna — doesn't equal the Name. Even giving-away the-entire-ocean-girdled-earth doesn't-equal the-Name. The supreme-dāna-image (= bhū-dāna of-the-whole-earth) is-surpassed. 2. Veda and śāstra recitation (verse 2): sakaḷa hī śāstrē paṭhaṇa karitām Vēda — sarī na yē Gōvinda-nāma ēkē — reciting all the śāstras, the Veda — doesn't equal a single Govinda-Name. All-śāstras and-Veda-recitation don't-equal one-single Govinda-Name (= a-direct echo of 2259's vēdācā tō artha āmhāmsī cha ṭhāvā). 3. Even-the-extreme-Kāśī-karvati-cut and-all-deha-daṇḍana don't-equal the-Name. (= self-violent ascetic-practices are inferior-to the-Name.) 5. Therefore say Rāma-Rāma night-and-day: mhaṇa'ūni kōṇīm na karāvā āḷasa — mhaṇā rātrī-divasa Rāma-Rāma — therefore no one should be lazy — say night-and-day Rāma-Rāma. The injunction.
