Abhanga 2431

A life built on truth needs no pleading or fraud, since truth simply meets truth, even though old desires can linger quietly beneath our right actions.

When you're deciding whether to be completely honest even though a small lie would be easier.
When you've acted rightly but still feel an old craving or habit tugging at you underneath.
When you want to speak to someone you trust, like a parent, without hiding anything.

The verse

Literal translation

No more deceit-dwelling in life — then who pleads. In truth's measure, no fraud in the knot — Nārāyaṇa is sweet beginning-end. Clean one has no pollution-strike — truth falls in truth. Considered path is rest-cool — before buddhi, strength is grass-equal. Food-bite digested — vāsanā remains residue. Tuka says: match the word — you, my Mother, Pāṇḍurangē.

What it means

THE TRUTH-MEASURE + PĀṆḌURAṄGĒ-AS-MOTHER ABHANG.

The food-and-vāsanā: āhārāchyā ghāsē pachōniyām jirē — vāsanā hī urē urvarītafood-bite digested — vāsanā remains residue. Food-bite digested-and-passed; vāsanā remains-as-residue. Even-after-digestion, vāsanā lingers — the subtle-tendency outlasts-the-physical-effect.

THE PĀṆḌURAṄGĒ-AS-MOTHER: tūm mājhī jananī Pāṇḍurangēyou, my Mother, Pāṇḍurangē. The feminine-vocative — Pāṇḍuranga as-Mother. Compare 2403 and 2411.
