Abhanga 2454

Holding the divine feet in your heart eases every kind of suffering, and quiet, unclaimed service eventually earns its own recognition.

When you are suffering in body, mind, or circumstance and need something steady to hold onto.

When you serve or help others quietly, content to remain unnoticed rather than praised.

When you wonder whether hidden, humble devotion is ever truly seen or valued.

The verse

जेथें लIमीचा वास । गंगा आली पापा नास ॥१॥ तें म्यां हृदयीं धरिलें । तापें हरण पाउलें ॥ध्रु.॥ सेवा केली संतजनीं । सुखें राहिले लपोनि ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे वांकी । भाट जाली तिहीं लोकीं ॥३॥

Literal translation

Where Lakṣmī dwells — Gangā came, sins destroyed. I held in heart — tāpa-removing feet. Served in saint-people — happily stay hidden. Tuka says: bracelet — became court-poet in three worlds.

What it means

THE TĀPA-REMOVING-FEET-HELD-IN-HEART ABHANG.

The feet-in-heart: tē myām hṛdayīm dharilē — tāpē haraṇa pā'ulē — I held in heart — tāpa-removing feet. Tāpa = three-fold-suffering (ādhibhautika, ādhyātmika, ādhidaivika). I-held in-heart — the feet that-remove-three-fold-suffering.
