Abhanga 2482
When a devotee sheds pride and worldly shame completely and calls out from genuine extremity, God does not ignore that need.
The verse
Literal translation
Abandoning all worldly-shame — call Yadu-rāja with bhakti-bhāva. Looking at trees, plucking leaves — eating, call Viṭhṭhala. Picking rags, threading them — wrapping rump, call. Tuka says: when such nirvāṇa-extremity is set up — Nārāyaṇa doesn't disregard.
What it means
THE EXTREME-NIRVĀṆA-BAIT ABHANG.
The instruction: abandon worldly-shame, eat-leaves-from-trees, wear-rag-strips — adopt-the-extreme-renunciate-look — call-on-Viṭhṭhala. When such extreme-nirvāṇa-mode is-mounted, Nārāyaṇa-can't-disregard. The bhakta's-leverage: extreme-need-forces-response.
The teaching: Bhakti-can include-strategic-extremity — make-the-Lord-pity-you by-taking-the-renunciate-pose.

- When you feel you have nothing left and wonder whether that rock-bottom moment can still call up grace
- When you're weighing whether to keep up appearances or be radically honest about a hard situation
- When you want to understand why some devotional traditions praise voluntary poverty or renunciation as a spiritual practice
