Abhanga 2485
After giving up self-importance and worldly attachments, a devotee can boldly claim closeness to God through connection to another devotee, rather than waiting passively.
The verse
लोक फार वाखा अमंगळ जाला । त्याचा त्याग केला पांडुरंगा ॥१॥ विषयां वंचलों मीपणा मुकलों । शरण तुज आलों पांडुरंगा ॥ध्रु.॥ घर दार अवघीं तजिलीं नारायणा । जीवींच्या जीवना पांडुरंगा ॥२॥ तुका म्हणे पडिलों पुंडलिकापाशीं । धांव हृषीकेशी आळिंगीं मज ॥३॥
Literal translation
People much-bad inauspicious — I left them, Pāṇḍurangā. Avoided viṣaya, lost mī-paṇā — came to your śaraṇa, Pāṇḍurangā. Abandoned home-doors — life-of-life, Pāṇḍurangā. Tuka says: I've fallen at Puṇḍalīka's feet — run, Hṛṣīkēśa, embrace me.

The Puṇḍalīka-appeal: paḍilōm Puṇḍalikā-pāśīm — dhāmva Hṛṣīkēśī āḷingīm maja — I've fallen at Puṇḍalīka's feet — run, Hṛṣīkēśa, embrace me. I've-fallen at-Puṇḍalīka's-feet (= the bhakta-on-whose-account Viṭhṭhal-stays-at-Pandharpur); now-RUN, Hṛṣīkēśa, embrace-me. The bhakta-uses Puṇḍalīka-as-leverage — if-Puṇḍalīka-brought-you-here, you-can't-now-ignore-me-fallen-at-his-feet.
