Āmhāmpāśīm sare eka śuddha bhāva — with us, only one śuddha-bhāva suffices; chaturāīm jāṇīva na lage kaḷā — no chaturāī, jāṇīva, kaḷā needed.
The verse
Literal translation
Āmhāmpāśīm sare eka śuddha bhāva — with us, only one śuddha-bhāva suffices; chaturāīm jāṇīva na lage kaḷā — no chaturāī, jāṇīva, kaḷā needed. Sarva-jāṇa mājhā svāmī Pāṇḍuranga — my svāmī Pāṇḍuranga is sarva-jña; tayā anga-sange gōpāḷāsī — by his anga-sanga, the gōpāḷas (were blessed). Tukā mhaṇe karma-dharme naye hātām — Tukā says: by karma-dharma, he doesn't come-to-hand; tayāvari sattā bhāvikāñcī — over him is the sattā of the bhāvika.
What it means
A short 3-verse claim by Tukārām.
The argument: Only one shuddha-bhāva suffices with-us; no-chaturāī-jāṇīva-kaḷā needed. My-svāmī-Pāṇḍuranga is-sarva-jña; gōpāḷas were blessed by-his-anga-sanga. By-karma-dharma he doesn't-come-to-hand; the-sattā-over-him belongs-to-the-bhāvika.
★ The closing-claim is striking: the bhāvika has-sattā-over-the-Lord. Bhāva, not-karma-or-dharma, has-the-authority-to-claim-the-Lord.
For someone today
Tukārām's claim. With us, only one pure-feeling suffices; cleverness, knowing-ness, skill are not needed. My svāmī Pāṇḍuranga is all-knower; by his body-association, the gōpāḷas (were blessed). By karma-dharma, (he) does not come-to-hand; the authority over him belongs to the devotee (with-bhāva). The verse permits the bhakti-claim: only-bhāva-grants-authority-over-the-Lord.
Where this applies
- Tukārām's only-shuddha-bhāva-suffices; bhāvika-has-sattā-over-Lord claim
- Karma-dharma-doesn't-grasp-him anti-effort-claim
