Abhanga 3483
What is genuine eventually shows itself, and real truth cannot be rushed, it takes exactly the time it needs.
The verse
गोमट्या बीजाचीं फळें ही गोमटीं । बाहे तें चि पोटीं समतुक ॥१॥
जातीच्या संतोषें चित्तासी विश्रांति । परतोनि मागुती फिरों नेणें ॥ध्रु.॥
खर्याचे पारखीं येत नाहीं तोटा । निवडे तो खोटा ढाळें दुरी ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे मज सत्याचि आवडी । करितां तांतडी येत नाहीं ॥३॥
Literal translation
Gōmaṭa-seeds-give-gōmaṭa-fruits — bāhē-matches-pōṭa. Jāti-santōṣa-chitta-viśrānti — doesn't-turn-back. Pārakhī-of-kharā-no-loss — khōṭā-falls-far. Tukā: my-āvaḍī-for-satya — no-tāmtaḍī.
What it means
A 3-verse genuine-vs-counterfeit text. Sweet-seed gives sweet-fruit; outside matches inside. To the discriminating assayer, no loss; the false falls away. My liking is for the real — it doesn't come by hurrying.
For someone today
Tukaram says good seeds naturally produce good fruit, because what is inside a person always matches what shows on the outside, sooner or later. When the mind rests content in its own true nature, it stops wandering back to old distractions. Someone who carefully tests for what is genuine never loses out, because the false eventually falls away on its own. Tuka closes by admitting that his love is for truth alone, and truth cannot be rushed into being, it takes exactly the time it needs.
मराठी: तुकाराम म्हणतात की चांगल्या बीजातून चांगले फळच येते, कारण माणसाच्या आतले आणि बाहेरचे लवकर किंवा उशिरा एकसारखेच दिसते. जेव्हा मन आपल्या खऱ्या स्वभावात संतोष पावून विसावते, तेव्हा ते पुन्हा जुन्या विचलनांकडे वळत नाही. जो खऱ्याची काळजीपूर्वक पारख करतो, त्याला कधीच तोटा होत नाही, कारण खोटे आपोआप दूर पडून जाते. शेवटी तुका कबूल करतात की त्यांचे प्रेम फक्त सत्यावर आहे, आणि सत्य घाई करून मिळत नाही, त्याला जितका वेळ लागतो तितकाच लागतो.
