Once you place complete trust in one source and leave no other refuge, hold that trust firmly and depend fully on it.
The verse
Literal translation
For-niṣṭha-I-speak — you-sarva-jāṇa-dātā. What-duḥkha-remover-but-you. Sat-making-one-ghara — no-second-here. Tukā: everything-came-to-feet — don't-neglect-māyabāpa.
What it means
A 3-verse one-house-petition. I speak for your firmness; you alone remove duḥkha; you've made one house and no second exists; everything has come to your feet; don't neglect.
For someone today
Tukaram speaks these words to affirm his own steadfastness, calling God the all-knowing giver who truly understands everything. He asks who else could remove his suffering, and where else he would even go for refuge. He says God has settled into one house, and there is no room left here for a second option. Everything, he says, has already come to rest at those feet, so now he asks his parent-like God not to neglect him.
Where this applies
- When you decide to trust one path completely instead of hedging between many
- When you are searching for who can truly relieve your suffering
- When you have already given everything you have and are asking not to be abandoned
- When real commitment means giving up the comfort of a backup plan
