Abhanga 3864
A genuine turning point comes when you stop grasping at worldly life and simply ask to be accepted as you are, trusting that everything you have already belongs to something greater.
The verse
आजिवरी होतों संसाराचे हातीं । आतां ऐसें चित्तीं उपजलें ॥१॥
तुला शरणागत व्हावें नारायणा । अंगीकारा दिना आपुलिया ॥ध्रु.॥
विसरलों काम याजसाठीं धंदा । सकळ गोविंदा माझें तुझें ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे विज्ञापना परिसावी । आवडी हे जीवीं जाली तैसी ॥३॥
Literal translation
Until-now-samsāra's-hand — now-arose-chitta: go-śaraṇāgata-Nārāyaṇa — angīkāra-of-dīna. Forgot-kāma — work-for-this — all-Govinda-mine-yours. Tukā: listen-petition — āvaḍī-arose.
What it means
A 3-verse conversion-petition. Till now I was in samsāra's hand — now this has arisen in my heart: I should become a refugee to Nārāyaṇa — let him take his dīna. I have forgotten the worldly activity for its sake — all is Govinda's — what's mine is yours. Listen to this petition — the longing has arisen in my heart, just so. The clear just-now-this-arose / I-was-in-samsāra's-hand-till-now is the conversion-moment-language.
For someone today
Tukaram marks a turning point, saying that up until today he had been entirely caught in the grip of ordinary worldly life, and only now has something new risen in his heart. He decides he wants to become a refuge-seeker of Narayana, asking God to simply accept him as his own, humble as he is. He has stopped chasing desire and work for their own sake, realizing that everything belongs to Govinda anyway, so what is his is really God's. Tukaram asks only that this heartfelt request be heard, because the longing behind it is completely genuine.
मराठी: तुकाराम एका वळणाच्या क्षणाबद्दल सांगतात, म्हणतात की आजपर्यंत ते संसाराच्या पूर्ण पकडीत होते, आणि आजच त्यांच्या मनात काहीतरी नवीन उमगले आहे. त्यांना नारायणाला शरण जावेसे वाटते, आणि आपण जसे आहोत, दीन असूनही, देवाने आपला स्वीकार करावा अशी ते विनंती करतात. त्यांनी इच्छा आणि केवळ स्वतःसाठीचे काम मागे टाकले आहे, कारण सगळे काही गोविंदाचेच आहे हे त्यांना उमगले आहे, म्हणून जे माझे आहे ते खरे तर तुझेच आहे. तुकाराम फक्त एवढीच विनंती करतात की ही मनापासूनची विनवणी ऐकून घ्यावी, कारण त्यामागची ओढ पूर्णपणे खरी आहे.
