Abhanga 4283
Pundalik's complete, single-minded devotion to serving his elderly parents was itself such pure worship that it brought God down to earth to become his guest.
The verse
वैकुंठींचा देव आणिला भूतळा । धन्य तो आगळा पुंडलीक ॥१॥
धारष्टि धैर्याचा वरिष्ठ भक्तांचा । पवित्र पुण्याचा एकनिष्ठ ॥ध्रु.॥
पितृसेवा पुण्यें लाधला निधान । ब्रम्ह सनातन अंगसंगें ॥२॥
अंगसंगें रंगें क्रीडा करी जाणा । ज्या घरीं पाहुणा वैकुंठींचा ॥३॥
धन्य त्याची शक्ति भक्तीची हे ख्याति । तुका म्हणे मुक्ति पायीं लोळे ॥४॥
Literal translation
Vaikuṇṭha-Deva-brought-to-bhū-taḷa — dhanya-āgaḷā-Puṇḍalīka. Dhārṣṭi-dhairya-variṣṭha-of-bhaktas — pavitra-puṇya-ēkaniṣṭha. Pitr-sēvā-puṇyē — got-nidhāna — brahma-sanātana-anga-sanga. Anga-sanga-rangē-krīḍā — Vaikuṇṭha-guest-in-house. Dhanya-śakti-bhakti-khyāti. Tukā: mukti-rolls-at-feet.
What it means
FOUNDATIONAL canonical 4-verse Puṇḍalīka-praise text. He brought the Vaikuṇṭha-Deva down to earth — blessed is that exceeding-one, Puṇḍalīka. The foremost of bhaktas in boldness and steadiness; single-fastened in pure-merit. By the merit of pitr-service he attained the treasure — the eternal brahma in bodily-companionship. In bodily-companionship he plays in joyous-mode — the one in whose house the Vaikuṇṭha-(Lord) is the guest. Blessed is his power — bhakti's fame is this. Tukā says: liberation rolls at his feet. The Vārkarī-origin-figure praise: Puṇḍalīka is the legendary bhakta who detained Viṭṭhal at Paṇḍharpur with a brick while serving his aged-parents — making Lord-stand-on-brick the iconic-Vārkarī-form. Pair with 2896 (mother-father=Kāśī + Puṇḍalīka), 3034 (Vārkarī-mokṣa-adhikārī).

Tukaram praises Pundalik, the devotee who brought God down from heaven to stand on earth at Pandharpur. What made him so extraordinary was not ritual or renunciation but his complete dedication to caring for his elderly parents, a devotion so pure and single-minded that it became its own form of worship. Because of that quiet, steady service, the eternal became his intimate companion, and God himself came as a guest into his home. Tukaram says liberation itself now bows at Pundalik's feet, showing that ordinary duty done with total devotion can be the highest spiritual path.
