Living with the humble, renouncing spirit of a fakir or yogi, regardless of tradition, is what invites God to watch over you moment by moment.
The verse
येइल घरा देव न धरीं संदेहा । फकिराचा यावा व्हावा जेव्हां ॥१॥
होइल फकीर योगी महानुभाव । घडीघडी देव सांभाळील ॥२॥
तुका म्हणे ऐसें बोलती बहुत । येणे गुणें संत जाले राम ॥३॥
Literal translation
Yēīla-gharā-Deva — no-samdēha — fakīra-comes-visits. Becomes-fakīra-yōgī-mahā-anubhāva — ghaḍī-ghaḍī-Deva-sambhāḷīla. Tukā: many-say — by-such-guṇa-santas-became-Rāma.
What it means
A 3-verse fakīra-yōgī-mahā-anubhāva positive-reference text. Deva will come to (your) home — don't hold doubt — when the fakīra's visit happens. (One) becomes a fakīra, a yōgī, a great-experiential one — and every moment Deva takes care. Tukā says: many speak thus — by such quality, santas have become Rāma. The Indo-Persian-Deccan vocabulary: fakīra (Muslim-mendicant), yōgī, mahā-anubhāva. Tukārām positively-references the fakīra-tradition as soteriologically-equivalent. Tukaram says God will genuinely come into your home, no need to doubt it, once you have taken on the humble, renouncing spirit of a wandering fakir. Whether you become a fakir, a yogi, or someone of deep spiritual experience, God watches over you in that way of living, moment by moment. Tukaram notes this is not just his own idea, many people say the same thing, that this quality of self-emptying devotion is exactly what turns ordinary saints into being one with Rama. It is a striking example of Tukaram honoring the fakir tradition alongside yogis and saints as an equally valid path to the divine.
