Literal translation
English: Putting all in one place — taste it. What is mine — I am giving among you all. The bundles undone on the rocks; all made into one heap; the kālā mixed and distributed to friends. "It's sweet, sweet — give more — my belly isn't full!" Embraces given; they run after (him); putting it to the lips, they eat from his mouth. Krishna-my-mother eats from everyone's morsel; the gods watching say "alas — we have missed this joy." The bent, the lisping, the broken, the wobbly — Krishna loves these most: they have great bhāva. Eating each-other's leftovers — they feel no disgust; what was once shameful has become bold by their company. "Hari, your company is good — even if you fool us, we won't go with any other." The gods watching, swallowing saliva — "blessed are the cowherds; cursed our state." The host of gods has filled the Yamuna's bank — the lips smack with longing. "Whoever knows the heart-truth — what shame is for him?" Krishna's leftover — the great gain. The friends are pleased — each in the other's affection — they ate curd today till sated. Then Vanmali says: "take up the sticks and blankets — let's go pasture the cows in play." Today, joy has come — today, joy has come — supreme joy walks with us.

What it means
A long Vrindavan-kālā abhang. Three structural points to lift out: (1) the kālā-mixing is the structural-image of the bhakta-collective — अवघा केला एकवटा — all made into one heap — Krishna takes individual bundles and makes them one; what comes back is shared-substance. (2) The flawed are most-beloved — वांकडे बोबडे खुडे मुडे एक लुडे, कृष्णा आवडती पुढें — the bent, lisping, broken, wobbly are bahu-bhāvika (great-of-feeling); bhāva outranks form. (3) The gods envy the cowherds — the cosmic-elite with all their privileges miss this joy (सुखा अंतरलों) because they could not be in the dust with the children. [T] [Tradition]
For someone today
Two teachings:
-
The kālā-mixing principle. When you bring your bundle to a true gathering, you don't get back your-bundle; you get back the mixture. The mixture is more than what you brought. The hesitancy to bring your small-bundle (it's not as good as others') is what blocks the gain. Bring it. The mixing happens at the deity's hand.
-
Flawed-is-beloved. The deity does not prefer the polished — the polished have less bhāva available. The bent and broken bring more भाविक feeling because their need is more visible to themselves. The application: stop hiding your bentness; bring it. The gods are watching, envious — they have it too good, and goodness-without-need is its own privation.
-
Flawed-is-beloved.
Where this applies
- Hiding flaws before approaching the deity. Bent and lisping are most-beloved.
- Company makes you more capable than alone. kālā-effect.
- I won't go with anyone else is the post-meal claim. Recognize what was given.
